And hippie nonsense like this is exactly why our country has become a joke around the globe. While other countries are teaching their kids the same lessons we used to teach, we're turning ours into video game playing, whiny little cream puffs with a sense of entitlement.
Sometimes kids DO need a smack in the head or on the rear end. It's called PARENTING and until recently, it's done a great job of teaching kids to grow up into responsible adults. I'm 33 years old and even I can see the country is going to crap because of all the children who've grown up to think the world owes them so much.
To be clear- in the case of this woman, I don't condone her beating the girl which she was in a drunk rage. There's a difference between appropriate discipline and angry retribution.
As you said, I don't condone beating a kid but there's a big difference between a beating and a smack when they need it. My Mom brought out the hairbrush and gave me a spanking when I needed it. Nowadays, when the kid is bad the parents go into a panic attack and say "how have I failed you?" However, as I said in my earlier post, there's a lot missing from the story. Maybe they were all drinking and just started flailing away at each other?

Umm, isn't this missing some crucial details, such as a background story? Or did this originate with "Ruffles are better! Save the dolphins!"?

No offense, but 'NOT' jokes stopped being funny about 10 years ago. Now they're considered kind of annoying. People won't listen to whatever point you're trying to make if you throw one of those in there. Might as well add a 'gag me with a spoon' or a 'where's the beef'...

I hate to tell you, but spanking kids is a GOOD thing. It works well, especially when the parents have enough common sense and compassion to use it wisely. My children get a thwonk when they've earned one. People often tell me how well-behaved they are. Part of that is because the kids know what will be waiting for them if they DON'T behave.
As for this story, I say there's more going on than "this teenage twit stole my Pringles and raunchy sandwich!"

Exactly, we grew up knowing there would be punishment for breaking the rules. Parent's punishing children for intentially doing wrong is akin to your body reacting to touching things that are too hot. You learn not to do it because something bad will happen to you. A few swats to the rear never killed anyone or hurt their ego for more then a few minutes.

That being said there is no excuse for beating a child excessively, or over accidents like a dropped plate, or very minor offences like eating something they were not supposed to or being up to late.

The PC crowd definitely has been a major contributor to the Modern Child's "I can do anything I want and I don't care" attitude
