This shows one more reason why the elderly should have to take driving exams. My grandmother was telling me how she gave up her license about 7 years ago (and she is already 88). The state she lives in wasn't forcing her to give up her license - she just knew that it was time to give it up...and voluntarily did so. She said losing the independence was hard...but so much better than losing one's life. I hope the young man who hit her handles this ok. God bless..

How fast do you have to be going to blast a car 55 feet? Have a good conscience?

that area is really bad, you come up 309 and to the left is 143 and it is very hard to pull out of there 16 or 80 years old, i dont think age had anything to do with this, and the speed i believe is 55 up there, i could be wrong

Well to blast a car 55 feet, you certainly are NOT going 35 miles per hour in which If that is the intersection I am thinking of, by the bank and gas station, I would say the other guy was doing 55 cause everyone does... I could be wrong about this intersection...

Think this intersection is bad? Try Route 309 at Mountain/Mosserville Road (Bear Rock Junction mini-golf) a couple miles further north. PennDOT even had to put up signs stating "look left, right, then left again" on Mountain/Mosserville. Talk about stating the obvious. The Route 309 traffic on the straightaway really books it coming south off of Blue Mountain or giving it gas to go up and over northbound.

A lot of people have died from here north to just past the curve where 309 begins to climb the mountain. Be careful - it doesn't even look that dangerous ...

Ok now I know where this happened and that is a bad intersection , wonder if the old girl looked to her left before going out on 309, and yes they do more than 55 there, you ought to see them about 7 am or so, its like the Indy 500 there... No doubt in my mind now he was probably doing 55 or better and if she pulled out , well it could be her fault, so its ashamed to have that happen.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing about the elderly being tested on a regular basis to retain their license's. Some of these people need glasses and don't go for eye exams. Some have glasses and haven't had their eyes checked for years and need new glasses. Many are on medications that interfere with driving. I pray for the young fellow that he will be ok and realize he did nothing wrong.

So sad! I travel that road many a time during a week. Very danderous. Even for those of us who consider ourselves to be cautious drivers. I am sure when the persons involved in that tragic crash, leaving their house this morning, that this would have happened to them. My thoughts and prayers to both families. Never take your life for granted, or the lives of all who surround and love you!

Age isn't always a factor in accidents like this. As it was stated before, it could have happened to an 18 year old or 80 year old.

From what I remember, Lynn Township has a few bad intersections, usually associated with Route 309.(Need I say anything about the intersection in front of Northwestern Lehigh?)

The township needs to do is install some traffic lights on Route 309.(I haven't been back to that area in a while -- a year or two -- so if lights have been installed in that area, forgive me.)

And of course, people need to drive carefully around intersections that are synonomous with danger. It's just common sense.

So true what you say, James. The traffic's fast, there's no local police, and state troopers assigned here spend there time dealing with I-78 which has troubles of its own.

Anyway, FYI - Heidelberg Township (Route 309 and Northwest Road-just over Lynn Township line at the old Hamm's Drive-In) paid for a light a couple years back to help the situation by the high school. This is the first and, so far, only light in the district. Route 100/309, 143/309, I-78/Route 863, and Route 100/Kernsville-Claussville Roads are other places around the district that desparately need lights.

Only Route 100/309 in Heidelberg and I-78/863 in Weisenberg are actually in the works for lights, although at a glacial pace. Lowhill can't come up with enough money to pay for PennDOT's light at Route 100/Kernsville which had several tragic deaths while you've been away.

Lynn, meanwhile, keeps approving townhouses in New Tripoli off of Route 143 along Madison Street with no sign yet of planning for a light at 309. They fuss over sewer plant upgrades on a monthly basis however which they wouldn't have needed if they hadn't approved over a hundred townhouses. Also there's been alot of political infighting in Lynn over age-restricted housing zoning, hirings/firings of twp. secretaries, etc. No light, though.

James, if you now live in North Dakota consider yourself lucky. Lots of traffic, McMansions, and sky-high taxes beginning to affect NW Lehigh and I've lived here 35 years so I know what it was once like.

Pulling off of Rt. 100 onto Rt. 309 North has to be the worst of the intersections up there. It's a nightmare trying to pull out there from 3:30 to 6. I don't think people realize how many people actually travel through that stretch of 309.

And shame on Lynn Township for contining to build, build, and build even more townhomes before doing proper traffic studies. The village of New Tripoli by the bank and post office is so dangerous now with people speeding and cutting others off. There is way too many people traveling the small country roads up there now. And forget going from Kistler Valley Rd to the Bank on Schochary Rd.- it's like the Indy 500 with people crawling up your a** if you do anything less than 45 mph while you hope and pray a tractor isn't ahead of you on a curve. Those bends and curves in the roads aren't designed for high speeds. I don't know it's a shame that Lynn is changing but I guess it will continue to change like all other small towns eventually do. I miss living up there, but who knows maybe I left just in time.
