There is a golden rule to hunting that has been passed down for years and please remember this people, don't take a shot unless you clearly see the target and know this is an animal, not a person!

How do you mistake a human being for a deer?!!!! I have been hunting for 35 years and I have never even raised my gun until I know for sure it is a deer that I see. You do not shoot at bushes shaking or sounds! It is idiots like that that give hunters a bad name. He should be shot in the same manner as his victims!

That hunter is a dumb @ss.... I hunt as well, but you never shoot until you know what it is, and what's bebind it. I'm sorry for the family.

If you can't tell the difference between a human and a deer, just put the gun down and give it up.

So sad. This is situation that remind me of the conflict that was caused by the Michael Vick story. Why is deer hunting legal and dog fighting isnt? Not to say that neither is ok. I totally disagree with both!

First of all, if this had been a law abiding hunter the accident would not have happened. I've hunted since I was 10 years old, 54 now and I have never, ever aimed at something that I wasn't sure of. There was no excuse for this young lady to have been killed, none at all. All this does is give hunters a bad name and fuel the gun control people. And as far as people not liking hunting, fine that's your right. I have no use for tree hugging animal rights people. That's my right. The man that committed this terrible crime is not a hunter, he is a murderer.

This guy is totally in the wrong and it should have never happened.

But for you "Concerned Citizen", you have to be crazy. Here in NC, deer are becoming a real problem. We need more people hunting to thin out the population of them. Not to mention many of us eat the meat.

What a waste that a young women has lost her life, by utter carelessness. All she wanted was to complete her school assignment. All he wanted was bragging rights for bagging a buck.
My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends

Maybe someone should mistake him for a deer and shoot him. That was uncalled for. If you don't know what you are shooting at don't shoot. Sounds like to me he just wanted something to shoot at. She was only trying to make a career for her life and some stupid idiot took it all away from her at the blink of an eye.

This an unacceptable tragedy and certainly no accident. You do not raise your gun take aim and kill someone by mistake. The term "hunter" is used much to loosely. Just because this man was in the woods with a gun does not mean he is a hunter.I am very angered when I hear of an awful thing like this.I have hunted for 45 years. I have never ever assumed a sound could be my target.

I believe there is absolutely no reason for hunting in today's world...hunting is simply killing for sport and every year someone, either a hunter or innocent bystander is accidently killed or injured. Can there be any viable reason we should allow an insensitive idiot with a bloodlust, a hunting license, and a rifle to pursue wildlife on any land ? There has to be another way to control animal populations. And that is another thing...don't people understand, the animal population isn't "out-of-control", it's we humans who have overpopulated and we are developing, building, and expanding into their habitats.
It makes me crazy to hear, "we eat the meat",
because we know now there are better protien
sources than meat. With the money it takes for bullets, electricity for freezing, and fees for dressing the meat, someone could purchase a LOT of beans and rice...

You should always be 110% sure of what you are shooting at, and don't trespass when you hunt. This poor girl is now dead because of this stupid buffoon. What a moron! This is so very sad. And to you GetReel and you other liberals who say that there isn't a need for hunting. How should we control the deer population? Give them birth control pills? You need to get real. I'm not even a hunter, but I do enjoy shooting and I'm sure that this terrible incident will be used to vilify hunting and guns.

OK..this is an important issue for me because a beautiful young girl is dead AND because I abhor hunting. Wes asks how we should control the
"unwanted" deer population if we dont allow and encourage everyone with the interest, a rifle and a license to go out there and just shoot the dang deer...well, Wes, I don't claim to have a solution
but I am sure there has a be a better way.

I'm glad Virginia charges wreckless humters with manslaughter. I wish North Carolina did the same.
When my husband was shot and killed at 40 yards with a scoped rifle nothing happened . The boy was only charged with a misdemeanor hunting violation and served some community service. The judge at least imposed a 9pm curfew on him, and he had the nerve to ask if he could still go on his planned vacation to the beach. The kid who shot him was 12 years old and hunting with his grandpa. He knew what a deer looked like because he actually was carrying out the buck he had just shot an hour earlier out of the woods when they spotted my husband and shot him! My son was only 17 months old when his dad was killed. Makes me sick. Makes me mad. My child lost a parent and that poor girl's parents lost their child over STUPIDITY. Dont feel sorry for the hunter. Dont say, "Poor guy. He will never be the same."
He shouldnt. Its his fault.

Getreel......YOU need to get real. What happened was a tradgedy, that is true. However, to use something like this for a bully pulpit to rail against hunting, it is just shameful and in poor taste.

What business is it of yours if people hunt for sport or food? Hey, not all of us like beans and rice, dandelions, twigs, berrys, etc.

So, find a nice PETA forum or maybe even an Acorn Rally for some company instead of carping on where no one cares about your pathetic opinions.....

Complete cowards.
There has been nothing more depressing this morning than waking to the sound of gunshots from the woods knowing that, as I arise to spend this day with family, a whitetail doe or buck is staggering in blinding pain as a bullet, shot by a coward hiding camouflaged in a tree, rips thru its body, drains its life away, and robs a herd of one of its family members. Go on, pro-hunters, hate on me all you want, I still call it sickening and pathetic to call this a sport. If you want a deer so badly, go bring it down with your bare hands and teeth like any other hungry predator.
