The President has ordered flags at all federal buildings flown at half mass today through Veterns day. About an hour ago I drove past Florissant city hall and Bank of America along with other business and found that the flags were not lowered for our fallen soldiers. Does it not mean a thing when a domestic terrorist is killing our families that are serving this country. This just makes me sick and angry!

It could mea that no one has heard this news/ order at those buildings. And I don't believe that either of those buildings are federal buildings. Maybe it would have been nice to have stopped in and ask if they heard this news. Mark

Take it easy. No need to be "sick and angry".

The tragedy just happened yesterday and the flag half-staff or half-mast request was just made today.

I don't think any disrespect is being demonstrated. The flags are not on an automated system, it is all done word of mouth and with hands pulling the ropes.

Also the "domestic terrorist" comment is likely misplaced at best and probably just dead-wrong.
The news so far indicates the man had emotional problems. His intent does not seem to be terrorism but rather a psychotic episode.

This massacre was well thought out and planned ahead. The libs are going to say the man was experiencing mental anguish and was mentally unstable. Yet the 39 year old man was a career military man. He was a psychiatrist. This murderer deserves not only a death penalty, but the firing squad!

Called City Hall and told them about the flags at half-mast for the Soldier @ Ft Hood. They are verifying now and will lower when verified. Bottom line they did not know.
Thank You

Eventually all of the facts will be out and at that point we will hopefully know what the heck was going on with the guy that brought about this tragedy.
So far the news says he was acting on his own. It may have been inspired by his Muslim beliefs but so far their is no evidence yet to prove he was part of a terrorist plot. A connection to terrorism may materialize but I like to remain rational about such matters and not jump to conclusions.
His mental state has nothing to do with liberal views. The fact you twisted the discussion around to fit your political views shows another weakness in your thinking processes.

Well excuse me! I don't think one needs to be liberal to think the guy was "mentally unstable". Even if he did it because he is a muslim terrorist, I would still say he is mentally unstable. The fact that he was a 39 year career military man makes this all that much more confusing. Isn't a firing squad the same thing as the death penalty? Let's KILL him and execute him!!!
Maybe you should try deep breathing.

Yes, THANK YOU for remaining calm and taking appropriate action. You chose a wise course. Based on some of the reactions here, I am glad you called before some hothead marched into city hall screaming about the disrespect.

Pet I think maybe you could have used the term politically correct rather than libs. The PC way to handle a situation like this is to make the murderer a helpless victim crying out for help. Sarah, you say this wasn't domestic terrorism? What is your definition of "domestic terrorism?"
You crack me up Sarah. You say "isn't the firing squad the same as the death penalty?" I don't think so. Death penalty in this PC society is the lethal injection so the poor victim doesn't feel any pain. A PC society sees firing squads as too inhumane to these scum bags.

Excuse me?! Maybe I should have mentioned that I did contact and got an attitude of no one really cared. You pig calling me warped! Could you not just have asked if I had contacted?! Your all a bunch of losers. Did you ever think that it shouldn't have taken the president to ask that the flags be lowered? These are our soldiers that were killed on our own soil, for the love of God!

Let me be PC with you.(Perfectly Clear)

It's tough to argue with logic like yours since there really doesn't seem to be much in the way of genuine logic.

Terrorism is a plot to strike fear into a great number of the members of a society in an effort to disrupt that society and further their political aims. Domestic just means the plotters are not from outside the society being disrupted.
Does that clear it up for you or do you have another definition that you find more appealing?

Killing co-workers that you hate is not intended to scare others, the intent is to get revenge. When it is done in a indiscriminate manner it is clearly the act of someone irrational.

You don't "think" the firing squad is the same thing as a death penalty?
Again, it is tough to argue with that kind of logic.

In any execution there is the fear and adrenalin packed moments as the preparations for the execution are being made. After that the speed at which death comes is really the issue in terms of whether it is "humane". In that kind of view, it really does not matter much whether it "chemical poisoning" or "hot lead poisoning". Lethal injection can be quite slow and a tedious way to kill someone. In some respects the firing squad might be much more "humane" since it usually brings death in a split second.

Of course the "humane" qualification hinges on whether your personal philosophy or beliefs allow you view killing others as "humane".

I don't view the death penalty as "humane". But I also do not see any practical reasons to keep people alive who have been proven to have committed a heinous crime and who are obviously beyond "humanity" themselves.

So you called and talked to one or maybe two people at City Hall who did not sound like they cared over the phone. People who have other tasks in their day in addition to taking calls from citizens about flag etiquette. Then you got upset and came to topix and vented on this public forum and in doing so came across as pretty upset, possibly even irrational.

Here is something that some of us "losers" might know that apparently you missed, according to the U.S. Flag Code, only the President of the U.S., a state's Governor, or the Mayor of the District of Columbia can order the U.S. flag lowered to half-staff.

We understand the gravity of the situation but there is protocol and obviously there is some time needed for such matters to work their way through the system.

For the love of God...calm down! I'll bet the flags are at half-staff today. If not, call the City Hall on Monday and express your rational concerns. Maybe say a few prayers too.

No you are not excused. I made the call and in a very polite, friendly, calm and inquiring tone of voice asked if the City was aware that the PRESIDENT has ordered flags to be lowered to half staff in honor of the soldiers who were killed at Ft Hood. I was told very politely and calmly that the proper people would be notified. Perhaps you need to polish your phone skills and diminish the shreiking tone of your voice and you may get better results.

Are you as equally outraged at our troops that are killed daily in Iraq and Afghanistan? Here's the real questio. Where will you be on the parade route tomorrow to honor the memory of those slain at Ft Hood and all those who have given their lives in the defense of our Country?

I should have clarified this. The current administration won't hire veterans.I understand the former mayor and personnel director would give preference to veterans.Perhaps "bonus bucks "was hired by these people.

I think I asked politely about it. You know I mad the post to honestly show everyone how outrageous this is. But I can see that most of you rather attack people on here rather talk about an issue.
FYI...I have a son that served over seas he came back about 8 months ago. Unharmed I might add. Yes of course I am outraged. I am outraged by any killing anywhere! Killing from abortion right down to the oldest and sickest senior citizen. My issue is that a lot of people (not everyone) seems to care anymore about things that are happening in this country.
I appreciate you making the call as well. But I will tell you that I was not rude. At least not as rude as you are to me for pointing out a simple thing.
