Does anyone have any experience battling Hazelwood with their red-light traps?

I know there was a class action lawsuit filed against Hazelwood in 2011 but it seems impossible to find any information on the web regarding the outcome of the suit.

Just curious if they have a legal leg to stand on if these violations are ignored and if they can follow through on their threats to file a warrant against you when there is no proof of who is driving the vehicle.

I think all the red light camera laws are pretty much the same in the municipalities/cities in STC.

I got one in Florissant on Lindbergh and Trotterway, when I was going into Handyman off Lindbergh. They said I didn't come to a complete stop before making a right hand turn, but I was sure I did. Went to court, they showed the video on the wide screen monitor and for sure, my brake lights didn't even go on. With a red face I got out my check book and paid the $100.

Florissant also has the notice on the ticket that a warrant will be issued for non payment fine (I think it says "might" but not sure). Anyway, I was definitely guilty. But, I think the tickets are not exactly legal, because it is my understanding that the offender has to be ticketed and not the vehicle in a traffic violation.

You are allowed to view the video is you dispute the ticket and you can also access it online on the city's police web page.

Yes they are legal. If you got the ticket from a camera consider yourself lucky that it didn't come from an officer. From a camera there are no points from a police officer depending on the type and severity it would be 2 to 4 points and your insurance company can get this information but not from a camera.
So from what I read from Racer X he is guilty but wants to fight it on whether they have the right to give you a THE SUMONS. Get over it pay he fine

The state law does indicate that the driver of the vehicle is the one who is responsible for the violation.

I think that is the reason for so many people contesting tickets. Not that they didn't do it but they think red light camera tickets are unconstitutional under state law.

I got one also in Hazelwood, but I know I did it and it was my own stupid act. I just mailed in the ticket and my fine.

Actually Racer X (which is not my real name btw) is able to accept guilt, but several things are involved here that violate my principles and make unacceptable for me to blindly hand over $100.

-there is a 3rd party, for profit corporation that pockets the bulk of this fine.

-i've seen the video, doesn't show if it's me or Mrs X making the righthand turn after the incomplete stop.

-how do they issue a warrant without knowing who violated the law?

-interesting read http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/clas...

now try to find the ruling on that case online, almost seems like it's been supressed.

-if this were dilligent police work and not a corporate cash grab i would have no problems paying the penalty.

-the fact that they don't issue points proves this is a bullshit scam (i mean come on, if a person is an imprudent driver then the police are doing a dis-service to the community by not issuing points, right?)

I got a red-light ticket at Village Square maybe four years ago. After going to the link they cited and viewing the video, I decided to contest the ticket. I was turning right on a red light and had done a very slowly rolling stop (if there is such a thing) that was no different than even the police do. I filled out an affidavit provided by the city of Hazelwood and submitted it to them with my argument. They agreed with me and canceled the ticket. Good luck.

Have you looked at the video? Did you run the red light? If so...pay the ticket. If not, go to court and contest it. If you did not run the light they will toss it. If you did, you will pay the fine. YES red light cameras are legal and have been upheld by MO courts and many other states. If you don't pay, Hazelwood will issue a bench warrant. Then if you get pulled over for anything anywhere, the police will hold you in their jail (for up to 24 hours) to see of Hazelwood wants to pick you up. You will then have to post bond to get out until you show up i court. JUST PAY THE MAN!
