After Podleski's wife sued the City, it established the fact that you can put a sign up and keep it up as long as you like without a code violation. If you don't like it, call and cry to Christine Breadenkoetter.

Isn't that First Amendment a pain?
Why do we have such laws?
Why does anyone need the "freedom of speech"?
Sounds like this woman is another radical like the guys that wrote the First Amendment and the Constitution.
Why can't people be more like sheep?

Actually, the Supreme Court established that right in the early 90's long before my lawsuit. Florissant decided they did not need to obey the law and used it to stifle those who opposed the status quo.

Karen McKay was the one who pointed this out to me in 2007, of the letter received by the city from the ACLU and profiding me a copy of the letter telling them of their non-compliance. In this last campaign it did not suit her agenda to reveal this tidbit to the public. The city ordinance became illegal the minute the Supreme Court ruled. I received harassment by the City in 2007, 2008 and in 2010 it was time to stop the runaway train.

I may have been the one to take steps to stop them infringing on rights guaranteed all citizens by the Constitution but I was not the first to have been harassed by our city government; who was elected to represent us and obey the laws of the land.

They were warned more than once to cease and desist their illegal behavior and to remedy their ordinance. They chose to ignore this sage advice. Bob Lowery chose to break the law, despite words for public consumption he was not duty bound to do so. He knew it was illegal and did it anyway. Personally I believe he should be made to pay the City's legal bills. He should not be indemnified by the City as he knowingly broke the law thinking once again no one would call him on his behavior, however, as in many of his legal skirmishes we the taxpayers will pay the bill. This lawsuit could have been settled quickly and cheaply but the majority of the City Council chose to revise the law which still made it Constitutionally unacceptable.

So if you want to place blame I suggest you place it where it where belongs on the those who chose to ignore the Bill of Rights and the First Amendment. You may also want to ask why John Hessel, who has publically declared himself a somewhat First Amendment expert who presents seminars on the issue did not counsel the City in this case to resolve this quickly. I don't want to hear bs as to how Andrew should have changed it, with the majority of the Council firmly in the Mayor's pocket it would have gone nowhere.

The blame for the Kelly signs should be placed on the shoulders of the candidate who is not out collecting his signs and cleaning up after himself. I believe it speaks volumes to Kelly's lack of personal responsibility in the running of his campaign and lack of oversight on where his signs were placed. For pity's sake there was still one at the exit of 170 at N Hanley in Berkely recently. By all means call and I would be happy to tell you why I believe in the Bill of Rights and the legal Supremacy of Supreme Court. I am listed in the phone book.

In retrospect, many of us call for "Change", a new direction, some new ideas, a modern platform, fresh faces, yet, most of us, fail to challenge that effort.
We are quick to critique and fast to judge, but, most of us, don't really put out the effort or stand on our convictions.
Thank God, there are a few that take advantage of the freedoms we have, the right to voice our opinion, the right to choose, the right to campaign for change. Thank God, we have those freedoms, and Thank God for those who choose to challenge the status quo and the complacent followers.
I commend those with the Courage to "Step Up" and take the heat.

Perhaps someone could ask their council person or even Mr Kelly to ask that signs be collected. Maybe the supporters who placed the signs walk about and remove them. Easy to pull them up before ground freezes.
It is a shame that at a time that families are putting holiday themes on their houses and yards, out of date materials are marring the beauty of the season.
Is it a issue to bring to a meeting that is televised?
The signs are all over Hazelwood.
Matter of time before it is breaking news on a slow news day.

Maybe we could just get some Kelly volunteers to decorate the signs with lights and garland! Then they could be part of the festivities instead of a marring reminder of an election loss for the mayor's team.

This was a Florissant Election. Shame on Hazelwood for tolerating. Hazelwood shoud demand of Kelly to remove, the same with the unincorporated county areas around Florissant.
You would Think that Mr. Kelly would have enough sense to get them removed. The election is a full 3 weeks over.

Have to say that I see you as a big part of the problem here in Florissant. You seem "sue crazy". You have cost us residents alot of money by your actions. Maybe that's because you can get by with it being your husband is a lawyer.Florissant doesn't need people that nit pick apart our council. The bottom line is this: You Lost....We won....End of story!

It is now over.
Florissant now has a new Judge.
This competition is over for a while.
Whatever signs Mr. Kelly missed, mother nature has taken them down with the wind and rain.
If not, pull them down yourself.

It's time we start gearing up for the 5 council races coming up in April and start ripping on those folks. Wards 1-3-5-7-9 are up for election so let's go and rip away.

The people who are costing the city "alot of money" are Robert G Lowery and the Council majority who willingly supported his illegal activity. He was told to stop his ILLEGAL behavior not once, not twice, but three times and persisted in his ways. Sorry but as a citizen I refuse to accept this type of tyranny from my government officials. The courts (suing) is the method the aggrieved uses to remedy this behavior in the U.S., I am sure you remember this from your high school government classes; do you not?

If you want to live in a Country that suppresses your political speech I can name a few where you could move. In the US we have this pesky document called a Constitution and laws that guarantees Free Speech rights. Political speech being one of the most protected forms. I suggest you do a little more research before you post. You may be willing to readily give up your Constitutional rights but I refuse.

Andrew is not a lawyer. Where in the world did you get this idea? You have just revealed something very important about yourself. You and yours are more the “big part of the problem” in FloMo you vote on sound bites, rumors, innuendos and empty promises not on qualifications, plans and a platform formed to move Florissant forward.

Winston Churchill had it right when he said "the biggest argument against Democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter." You have validated this adage unfortunately on more than one occasion in your posts.

If you call the election of TP Schneider winning, then so be it. I view it as a loss to the City for electing another self-absorbed clueless politician of limited intellectual ability. Since you are so proud of your “win”- tell us all exactly the marvelous accomplishments in the first six months of his Mayoral tenure. Other than a few temper tantrums and history lessons I have seen no forward movement, no new ideas or new direction to improve Florissant’s future.

And what kind of accomplishments have you achieved other than to be a mouthpiece? You don't have the leverage nor the political clout to call into question anyone's "wins" considering your non "winning" strategy.

You are correct we did not win but your guy did not exactly get a sweeping mandate for office. The most recent election for Judge proved despite signs EVERYWHERE for Kelly signs don't vote people do, Boyle won.

What you Union guys do not understand is other candidates are not anti-labor despite what you are told at the Labor Club, just when is the membership going to stand up to old man Kellet; guess you guys are just the ones supplying the money as I know you have no say in the way the club is run. Club ranks are getting thin these days and the Halcyon Days are gone for the foreseeable future, possibly forever.

Bears are slow to waken but more and more are seeing that the "old guard" is not moving this city forward. You now have people running against entrenched incumbents, I truly believe if GregS would not have recently taken a new job and run for Council; Schmidt despite your best efforts would not be sitting on the dais.

So be as smug as you like the times they are a changing, slowly but surely. Oh and the agreement between labor and Kelly for no fines for Labor Club are a thing of the past, there is a positive change in direction for city coffers.

"Accomplishments"? "Winning strategy"?

Didn't Podloski sit on the council for a term despite running in opposition to the "old guard"?

Didn't he give up that incumbency to run for mayor?

Didn't he run a fairly close race against an incumbent Mayor Lowery despite being out-spent over 10 to 1 in campaign funds?

Didn't he run a campaign with a real platform while others chose to run campaigns based in rhetoric?

Didn't he open up local politics in a way that got others who previously sat on the sidelines into the process?

That is just a small list of his "accomplishments" based on my distant and casual view of the scene.
