Is it true that Radio Shack in Surrey Plaza was robbed yesterday by four armed black guys? I also heard the employees were beaten pretty bad by these guys.

True or not?

I think this story is several months old. If it was robbed again yesterday they need to change something at that place.

That place just has horrible luck. Wasn't there a hostage situation there back in the 80s?

Two people were killed there in 1974.Actually they were kidnapped and murdered elsewhere. This is an unsolved crime.Maybe bonus bucks has more info.

Call the mayor and ask him why. Where a back brace though because he will load you with all kinds of BS.

I'm hearing there was a shooting on Charbonier this morning and a stolen auto from Bandanas this afternoon.

Interesting.

I thought it was in the late 70s or early 80s that a hostage was taken. The body was found several months later by a hunter near the old Desloge estate at Shackleford and Halls Ferry. At the time, the Thompson-Thorberg Bowling Supply was next door and I remember Paul and Rick saying they never even heard a commotion.

Im not a fan of the mayor as much as the next person here, but what makes you all think that it's him hiding this stuff? For one, is this story actually newsworthy? Of course the public has the right to know on this subject, but i dont think the entire stl area needs to be informed on the full details other than a beat report.

Rumor has it that the dispatchers have been "instructed" when a news agency calls to say nothing to report.that would be considered hiding wouldn't it?

As per my grandfather and his research files-the incident was in late october of 1974-it was not a hostage situation.

There were two young men, frederick Gent of Florissant, a recent florissant arrival from Tennessee, radio shack management trainee, and a amateur musician who played several instruments. Married to Pam and lving with wife and mother in law on Keeven drive.

Tod Friedman , son of a prominent Jewish appliance store owner of Alton Illinois.

Tod had just graduated from Washington U in polisci, was considered to be brilliant and was the author of a paper on Israel's nuclear capacity that had been published in a national journal. He had just moved to florissant and wanted to get some job experience before probably going on to law school.

There was some money taken from the register but some money remained.

In the PM a customer came in, waited severaL minutes and when no one came out from the back room called the police.

Continued-The trail seemingly went cold until a st louis city police detective and his daughter looking for a christmas tree to cut and bring home came upon the bodies in early december of 74.

The dad was unable to collect the reward because he was a police officer so his girl collected the 10K reward.

The bodies were identified through dental records and wallets left on the scene, being badly decomposed both from the elements and animals.

No arrests were ever made but similarities were noted from a then recent abduction and double murder originating from a pharmacy on hampton and chippewa in south city and ending in a double murder on the athletic field of affton high school, in south county.

The perps were caught on the hampton case and pled guilty.

Bob Lowery was in charge of the investigation until the bodies were found in unincorporated county at which tiome county took over.

Tod was only about 5'3" and very light.

Two young and promising lives were brutally snuffed out.

You will not find this incident on the internet or in the recent book published talking about crime in st louis with a chapter on unsolved crimes.

It deserves a mention and if nothing else perhaps some of the topix readers will say a silent prayer for these two young men.

you have to do old fashioned research by looking through old newspaper clippings.

Problem is that globe-democrat was never microfilmed. The mercantile lib at UMSL has a "cutting" collection.

Post is on line back into the 90s but if you know month and year an event happenned that you are trying to research you can search through the microfilm records which go back to atleast 1970.

I must confess I am not sure how far back the Post goes.
I am lucky my grandfather cut out articles and indexed them on his computer by year, name of incident[florissant radio shack abduction-murders] and name of persons involved.

Good nite everyone-hope you all had a wonderful easter with your families!!!
