Anyone have any attempts and close calls of homemade pirrone pizza recipes or the house dressing from Pisanos? We love it, but live out of state, I need a copycat version! Angelo's, Ponticello's, anyone of those would work too!

only thing I have tried was the recipe for Pirrone's Pasta Con Broccoli. It was in a North County Business Magazine a few months ago.. Mine did not turn out bad but It was in no way even close to the real thing.

Pizza requires a great crust recipe and a good oven. Both require extraordinary effort.
You can try to match up that Italian stuff at home but the effort may not be worth it.
It is easier just find to another Italian place and enjoy their cuisine.
You might try a lot of bottled salad dressings. Imo's sells their salad dressing in bottles at Dierbergs and it is pretty good.
It depends on what you see as fun, working in a kitchen or relaxing in a restaurant.
I enjoy both but I know that really good home-made pizza is very labor intensive.
If you want to go that route, be sure to get a good pizza stone. It helps make the crust more like a restaurant.

any effort is worth the price when we talk about these north county pizza places, as I mentioned I live 6 1/2 hours away from St louis, so whatever sacrifice I need I will do just so I can have my tastebuds dancing tasting the yumminess of Pirrones, angelo's, ponticello's and pisanos

Pirrones, have "Half Baked Frozen" pizzas available at the restaurant. Stock the freezer, and have whenever the mood hits.

Pisano's is now closed.

I believe you can buy frozen Pirrone's pizza's at the restaurant and cook them at home later. Couldn't be much easier than that. Next time you are in town, stock up.
A few of the frozen pizzas available at stores are not too bad. Dierberg's brand is pretty good.
But no frozen pizza will ever taste like fresh dough baked in a hot oven designed for pizza. That is really the secret of restaurant pizza, the dough and the oven.

I loved Rodney's House Dressing at Pisano's. But would it taste as good if he would have had it bottled like Pasta House and the other local restaurants do? Compare the bottle designs and you'll see they are all bottled at the same place. Rodney used to start his day mixing the salad dressing daily.

Pizza and pasta are delicate things to recreate yourself. I think most restaurants recipes published in newspapers or other publications are seldom the complete recipe. According to a friend of the family who owns a small restaurant, they won't list all the ingredients or the true quantity of an important ingredient.

Another way to have a pizza from your favorite pizza restaurant is to contact them to see if they ship half bakeds. But even half bakeds don't taste as delicious as a fresh in house pizza or pasta. Sometimes I think the pizza can seem to taste much better than it really is just by the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Anyone know personally Rodney who ran Pisanos or Vince Ferrante who owned it before? Wondering if they may be interested in selling family salad dressing recipe for a new restaurant?

Ever been at pirrones for lunch and seen all the people do the buffet, many of which who dont really need a buffet?

I have seen people load up their plates like there will be no tommorrow or that they wont be allowed seconds, thirds or fourths.

Seriously obseity is a serious problem.

Perhaps the waitresses should say"I'm sorry sir [or maam]you really dont need the buffet. As well as physical problems caused by overweight adverse psychological consequences can also ensue. What you really need is our fruit and raw vegetable plate and then spend two hours on the sunset trail in a biking, running and roller-blading triathlon. The mayor, Bob Russell and Tim Lee are leading the exercise triathlon today and they are always happy to help new people lose poundage and get in shape!!!"

Your point is well taken but the chances of getting that to happen are slim to none.
I have been to the Pirrones buffet. They have good food if you can get any of it.
Your observation about the "large" people is funny whether it is meant to be or not.
The waitress says, "I am sorry you are too big for the buffet and they would either swallow her on the spot ot send in the lawyers.

Buffets are wonderful because you can sample a wide variety of food for a set price.

If you want to have a buffet that is "fair" and that would discourage the obese, the owners need to put a scale down and ask diners to provide their weight (in can be done with a digital scale so only the waiter seating them sees the weight). For every pound every person gets a surcharge on top of the base price.
Kids pay less, old people will likely pay less, normal eaters would likely pay less but some folks would be encouraged to not participate of to get their weight down.

What, you think you might have to pay more?
Ha!

In reality, the people who eat a normal amount of food at a buffet are offsetting the cost for the people who pig out.

THAT'S SOCIALISM PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

Buffet dining is a liberal conspiracy to get hard working people to help pay for the inordinate amount of food consumed by obese people with eating disorders.

That is why as a good Republican, I NEVER eat at a buffet! It is just more creeping socialism. Real Americans order from the menu.

I have never been to Pirrone's lunch buffet. Evidently you feel obese people are eating your share of food? The real question is what is the definition of obesity? The AMA and federal government define obesity as 10% over what the AMA's charts describe.

Any buffets I have been to, I have never watched what other people are putting on their plates. I suppose some people are worried that someone is taking more and possibly leaving less for the others. I would be happy to see buffet style serving outlawed. It encourages all people to over eat and poor food choices. Not just for severely obese people but even the people who appear normal weight.

Most restaurants over serve as it is. Look at places like Chili's, O'Charley's, Applebees, Fudruckers and Ruby Tuesdays and look at the calories content and serving sizes. Some restaurants. The big thing in restaurants is chicken wings. Those are one of the most unhealthy foods around.

Since you monitor everything everyone puts on their plates then I'm sure you have also seen the thinner people load their plates as well? I have known many thinner people with high metabolisms that could clear out a buffet line.

You're also correct that there are health risks with obesity. There is also health risks for people who drink excessively or people who always make the unhealthy food choices. Yes there are also adverse psychological consequences, mostly embedded by people like you who try to mentally beat them up. Too bad you can't tell if someone is having unprotected sex just by looking at them like you look at obese people. Then you could add another group of people to your "I hate list."

We should have a blind pizza tasting contest where a blindfolded pannell is brought pizza to taste. In my oppinion BJ's would be the world champ. It has more flavor, tang and better texture than all the rest. Have had pizza in Chicago, NY NY, SF, LA, and even Napples Itally and in Rome and BJ's is still the best.
