Our tax dollars are spent in west county. The bottom roads in North County have been planned for improvement since the 60s.Take a ride out near Chesterfield and see for yourself, then call St Louis County Planning Department.

I've heard all about it from my son who knows all the boys.

I sure hope kids pay attention and DO NOT drink and drive!!

Rumor has it the kid that passed away told the driver to please slow down because he didn't want to die.

So sad. I went to high school with the parents of the driver. I'm guessing he's going to jail for this.

Where did it happen? In Hazelwood or Florissant?

I'm not sure where exactly it happened, just on the bottoms.

I haven't seen or heard anything on the news about it either.

I just pray for the injured ones that they will fully recover.

my daughter goes to school with the boys involved in the accident. Those words will surely haunt the driver for the rest of his life if the passenger who died said that to him. I find it appalling that there is no news coverage about the accident. I feel like if this had been a carful of West County kids, it would have been all over the news. Also, there needs to be news coverage in order to get the story out and teach kids (and adults) what the consequences of drunk driving are. One boy is dead, one paralyzed, one in jail for 10 years. Lives are ruined of the families, friends. So sad, so sad...

The accident happened in front of American Store by the Mills Mall in Hazelwood.

I agree with mother, there should be some kind of news coverage about this.

My son came home saying people have been to the accident site and there are items there for the dead kid. So sad.

He also said the driver is going to jail for 10 years. How do people already know this? That makes no sense to me. I mean, wouldn't he need to be tried and convicted?

Sadly kids (& poeple in general) say things they think they heard. Yes, he would have a trial first. In no way do they know for sure what this kids time will be. Also, I bet the slow down comment made is just hearsay unless someone in the car heard it and after that trama for some reason can remember the exact words and repete them to friends at school this soon. Really, most of this is more than likely rumors. They should be nipped in the bud for the sake of the dead childs family and others in the car. Unless you were in the car or a hospital room you should encourage your children not to gossip about such a tragic event and pray for all the people (families and frieds) affected by this accicdent.

im a friend of the one who was killed it saddens me becuase what is even worse i saw the accident happen it was the worse sight i could ever imagine. I know the final totals of wat happened and it saddens me the most to hear how bad of everything was. two kids broke both their arms, one's paralyzed from the neck down, and one died. and the driver walked away with stitches on his forehead.

Yes, these things are tragic, and sad, and emotional. But, if one steps back, reviews the circumstances, understands what went wrong, and why, there can be some value taken from this.
For all of those involved, as well as everyone, don't miss the moment and the life lesson left behind. Move forward and absorb the pain, and share the moment and the lesson learned. Make something good come out of this tragedy.

I'm not so sure the family of the killed teenager can move forward so much; or the paralyzed teenager either.

I hope the parents of the driver had great insurance coverage.

Every parent should remind their teen that all states have the "zero tolerance" law. Any minor can be punished for having .02 alcohol level vs. the .08 alcohol level for a legal adult in their system. Hopefully the driver did not get a dui/dwi or have any other drugs in his system. He has to live with this the rest of his life. Teens that think they can do anything and not have any consequences sometimes get themselves in trouble. Let this driver be an example for all teen drivers out there. The driver might have been speeding, being reckless, being stupid, just goofing off, maybe drinking etc... Lives can change in seconds. Most likely the driver will have a hearing and maybe serve some jail time (if he had been drinking), lose his license for a while, pay a fine, be on probation, community service, alcohol classes

Was he under the influence of alcohol?
