I thought they weren't allowed to chase anyone outside city limits any more...

The Officer is fine and was not injured, the four suspects were not injured as well. The Police are allowed to chase, depending on the crime committed. In this case, the bad guys tried to run over and ram a Police vehicle. The four suspects apprehended later admitted to over 20 auto thefts, and several burglaries, both residentual and business. Had the Officers not chased them, they would still be out there committing crimes.

This high speed chase turned out OK, but they can be very dangerous.
Several years ago, Florissant was involved in a high speed chase out thier jurisdiction, that ended in a serious accident that killed and innocent person.
They don't always turn out for the good.

They are dangerous and have high potential for fatality, sometimes innocent people.

Glad to hear it, flopo. I do know, however, of plenty of times when they were not allowed to chase a stolen vehicle out of flo.

Success or not, many high speed chases are not necessary and just too dangerous.

You wouldn't put an outdoor shooting randge just anywhere and hope stray bullets don't hit anyone.

High speed vehicles are dangerous, just as dangerous as stray bullets.

If thugs know they aren't going to be chased, they will speed off every time. They will also use more stolen plates and cars for their activities, changing frequently to throw the cops off their trail. In the balance, its a better policy to allow chases, so that the thugs will be more likely to stop and submit to arrest. We also need other drivers to be more alert, exercise caution when entering intersections and yield to emergency vehicles.
