To Protect and To Serve?

I am watching as the FP Police have set up a checkpoint (cones, traffic etc.) on Vreeland Avenue where 3 officers are slowing down each car and checking something, presumably inspection stickers. Is this really what we want our police officers doing on a Wed. morning at 9:30 am? Inconveniencing average people who are just trying to get to work? Do we really need 3 trained police officers doing this? How about some auxiliary, part time kid making minimum wage? This is not exactly high tech police work going on.
