Mr. Olson of VOA said PACE didn''t have enough participants. It was also said those who attended were too sick and needed too much expensive care. What did VOA do to let Vermonters know that PACE was a really unique program to help them stay at home when their health began to fail? Was it ever marketed explicitly indicating that one coils get the meds, doctor, home care, wheelchair, walker, disposable underwear, ramp, an on call attendant at midnight, transportation to and from a cheery day care facility, and more all in one place with no hassle or forms. NO..brochures were left here and there which gave a minimum of information. Is it thought that the inevitable nursing home care will be cheaper than funding PACE. Would those who declined to fund the program rather wait to die in a nursing home or be enabled to stay a home with help from the caring staff of PACE? No contest. Common guys. Use common sense and not charts. What went wrong? Did you really exhaust every other possibility before giving up??? I find it difficult to believe the program could not have been modified to suit Vermont.
