Hey guys in order for me to graduate from nursing school, I need to do a leadership project. Me and the other girl that I am working with have decided to do a fundraiser to donate to an organization called Mercy Ships. We are wanting to raise money by selling "walking tacos" and wanted to know if anyone knew of any grocery stores in the area that would be willing to donate some of the food items. Thanks =]

Good luck and here are some thoughts for you. Try to contact a local bank to set up a free account so money can be tracked. Let people know this up front, so it removes any thoughts of scams and increases chances for donations. Also, try to get local merchants to put jars in their businesses, bars, etc... as a direct donation system; which is your ultimate goal, money for the ships. Turning product into money is easier for companies rather than giving money, but harder for you to turn it back into money; as I am sure you already know. Most businesses have a public relations department; which is where you should call to see what is available. When you present your project, remember to tie the concept of "sustainment" into your philanthropic effort. Show that money is sustained, not exhausted, by going for a project that funds a venture that perpetuates itself. This is why tuition assistance is good; as it gets a person through school onto a vocation; so that they then in turn serve a community. Demonstrate a need to fund things that are not totally consumed or stop after the money is depleted. There is a Neal Mayerson foundation that is always looking to fund projects for the community, but they first require sustainment as a requisite. Congratulations on both of your graduations.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, and I will take that into consideration. I have letters from both the Dean of nursing at Beckfield, and from Mercy Ships. I hope that we benefit this organization in some way. I will check with the local banks to see if I can set up a free account with them to use for any donations received. And thank you again =].

Once you get up and running, post address where I can send a donation. I think your project and the Mercy Ships are a good thing and I read their website. Put a link to this on any litature so your potential donors can be informed. Again, good luck.

. Hey nevermind, but I would like to thank you for your time and consideration. I ran this by my teacher and he said to just stick to my original plan because there is not enough time.

Ok, but I am still willing to make a donation if you get me an address.
