There seems to be some confusion about Floral Park. Is it in Nassau County or New York City? Is it a suburb or is it an urban center? Well, the answer to both of these questions is yes.

ROTFLMAO -- You can't even spell the name of one of your own great Spiritual leaders! Sheesh - it's GANDHI. And your people contributed little to nothing to the development of the USA. Do some historical research before speaking of that which you know nothing. I think this Karesh is very dillusional if he/she thinks that Indians 'built this country'. What a big load of BS that is.

say what you like, but without the great indian people this country would be NOTHING today.we can teach you the ways of ghandi but sometimes i think you are too stupid to understand this.it wont be long before we are running this country so get used to it.first obama, next an indian president then we will put manners on you and teach you silly people how to live.after all,we built this country so it technically belongs to us.

After India’s independence the government decided that the official language of India will be Hindi.
Language is not the issue here. Speak whatever language you like. All I ask is that when one decides to move to the USA and deal with the public on a day to day basis, learn our official language which (last time I checked) is English. When my family came here in the 1950's, things weren't translated for them. Driver Education was not available in every language. They HAD to learn English in order to fit in, work here, and survive.

Well this past weekend I was once again kept awake until late hours due to the same Hindu family once again celebrating a wedding. They have about 200 people in their small backyard - loudspeakers and amplifiers. Yesterday I pulled up in front of their house and blasted my CD (a Death Metal Band). They of course all stormed out of the house! First I was shocked at the amount of people all crammed into the small house and backyard. Then when I confronted them, what do I get? The 'man of the house' yelled at me and said it was 'Freedom of Religion'. I'm trying to explain to him (being a Pagan myself) that it has nothing to do with his Religion (I could care less what Godd/Goddess he prays to) but that in this country we respect our neighbors right to peace and quiet. If I can hear their music from two blocks away, then it is too loud!! Use some common sense here, Indians! I have no problem with your religion and customs. But if you are going to have hundreds of guests, amplifiers, louspeakers, don't do it when you have neighbors in such close proximity. Rent a space, a park anything!! You have enough money. You can't come to this country and be TOTALLY and COMPLETELY Inconsiderate and Selfish and uncaring about your fellow neighbors!!!!!!!!!!

Hey its me again. Haven't been here in a while and it seems as if my earlier comment didn't do a thing, lol. I'm still hoping that it could change atleat one persons mind. I was looking at the posts following the one I made and just wanted to add a few things. The ignorance is on both sides and i'm not preaching to be a saint but just a little empathy. The cultural center guy maybe wording things wrong because his english isn't that great or he probably just means what he says. The assimilation part is kind of hard, we all(everyone, not a certain race) have grandparents that can't speak or have very limited english, then our parents still have some of their culture obvious to the public, while the children assimilate completely as they grew up here for most of their lives. I don't mean to sound annoyed or upset but this is a scenario addressed towards the comment about parents having completely assimilated and why hasn't anyone else. If you came home with someone of a different race or skin color, how would your assimilated parents accept it? Ultimately, if we were all assimilated then there would be no such thing as prejudice, maybe racism. The Indians who are throwing these excessive parties need to atleast discuss this with their neighbors well in advance the importance of it and the need to do it at their house. It would probably be a good idea to invite them as well! I only threw some quotes up last time because i figured that if someone influential in history has been saying what i'm trying to state now, maybe someone would listen because someone like me (a nobody to you) may not be able to get through to anyone. I know its hard dealing with Indian sometimes, but I believe that is because they hold on to the bad experiennces they have with other races and pertain it to present situations (sterotyping) and the same goes for Indians dealing with other races. I can't speak for everyone but I can for a good portion on both sides cause I know what its like. Sorry about this entry, its all over the place. Just remember, empathy, try putting yourself in someones shoes, and ask, don't assume.

I am ashamed of the prejudiced and disgusting comments made above. I am also surprised that Todd Delamuca posted his name, as he can now be legally charged for his biased comments. Slander is illegal. Hate crimes can get you into prison. Watch for Todd Delamuca behind bars.
The generalizations of a group of people due to an individual he may have encountered or something he was wrongly taught (prejudice) is disgusting.
To all those who have read this column, and see the horrid writings by some provincial white people, I beg your forgiveness. Just because Todd is small-minded, please don't think all white people are pea-brained as well.
Thank you.

To Ilona - stop labeling!- kindly tell the family they are disturbing you can they keep it quiet. I have spent many nights being kept awake by WHITE families having parties, beer drinking middle age white people. And I am a white woman. Not a wedding but just a party. A wedding is a special occasion , how many weddings actually go on ? Give them a break - geesh

I live south of Jericho, Nassau side of Floral Park. And just for the sake of this prejudiced blog, I hope to sell my house to a very large beautiful Indian family who will hopefully enjoy a special occasion such as a wedding, in this backyard.
This is disgusting. Do you think a different culture moving in lowers your property value? I believe otherwise. What Floral Park is ACHING for is some diversity. It is full of prejudiced Italian American households who are raised on FEAR of the unknown and fictional comments being passed on generation after generation. Step outside your comfort zone and befriend a person different than you. You will learn that inside, you may have more in common than you think. And, you can learn from others. Humanity.
I am happy for the globalization we've been gifted here, like it or not by the internet. In 20 years this conversation won't exist. Simply because your kids will marry an Indian or whatever your other prejudices are, just because they'll rebel against you. And, much to your surprise, you'll love that person. And so the world will go, with or without your will to be a decent human being.
Please folks... let's keep in mind the voices being heard here are a minority. Most folks have hearts and brains that consider others, are not narcissists such as these few bad apples. So please don't be put off by a few prejudiced loud mouths on a very naive blog.
Anyway, the worst of the bunch above who speak hate are now being watched by the Nassau County Hate Crime Unit.

Have to tell you I live in Huntington a lovely Indian family moved in a few doors from me. They do not play loud music - they do not do any of the things written in this blog - they are a quiet family. The father you can see him outside helping his son learn to ride his bicycle - The mother tends to the garden. The father is a PHD in computer science. No way has our home value gone down. I love to have more neighbors like them. Nice quiet folks who keep their home nicely and are friendly.
Much better than the neighbor who puts up one of those huge plastic fences - white wall of plastic I get to stare at - parks his gas guzzling big SUV on the lawn - leaves his dog outside all day long while he goes to work and the poor dog barks all day -

Ilona said, "Yesterday I pulled up in front of their house and blasted my CD (a Death Metal Band)."

Great conversation starter, Ilona. Did you ever think that maybe you could simply ask your neighbors to turn it down?

Instead you decided to "be TOTALLY and COMPLETELY Inconsiderate and Selfish and uncaring about your fellow neighbors"

Brilliant, Ilona....What a great way to treat your neighbors.

I lived above a beauty parlor on Tulip Ave in 1981.
Koenigs is still there, but it is not on Tulip Avenue--it is on Tyson Avenue. The Tulip Bakery is still there and Ben Peters Beauty Parlor is there on Tulip. There used to be Vita's Drug Store next to Ben Peters but it closed down; Lee's Drug Store is still on Tulip and Tulip Avenue has bragging rights (if you can call it that) I heard that Tulip Avenue has more bars and bar/restaurants per square mile than anywhere else.

I also live south of Jericho Tpke on the Nassau part of Floral Park and I am happy to say that diversity has finally taken hold in Floral Park. There are Indian families, Asian, and Also Hispanic families that have broken through the invisible barrier of the Lilly White Floral Parkites and all of its prejudice. Hooray for the children will benefit. When you look into the classroom of Floral ParkBellerose School you used to only see white faces. As far as opening an Indian Cultural Center, the "powers that be" in Floral Park are much to prejudice to allow something like that in. You may remember several years ago when the Masonic Temple was for sale. Floral Park had absolutely no interest in buying it..........until they became aware that a Muslim house of worship was going to buy the Masonic Temple. Thennnn, and only then did the Racist Village of Floral Park show interest in purchasing the building by outbidding the Muslims, and now the building just sits there like a white elephant.

Wow, what a fountain of misinformation you are! It was no ordinary Muslim group, it was the Black Muslims, one of the most racist groups in America, led by probably the #1 racist in this country, Louis Farrakhan. You spout off here and demagogue against racists, and then complain when the Village did a great job of keeping a group of racists out of the Village.

Check your facts first before you start spouting off your liberal/progressive BS. And stop threatening people with the Nassau County Police watching them... the Police are probably laughing every time you call them to complain about someone exercising their right to FREE SPEECH on the internet.

If you think that Floral Park is to white, why do you live there? Why don't you move to a more blended neighborhood in Elmont or Roosevelt? Why? Because you would never leave your house because you are a hypocrite.

If you count Verbena, Atlantic and Tyson, you have a nice pub crawl of Arps, Koenigs, Poppy's, Swing the Teapot, Fallons, Fiore, Porkeys, Jack Duggans, McCarthys and Jamesons. If you can still walk, you can go to Stellas, Crabtree, Trinity and the Restaurant next to the Floral that always changes hands that used to be Beiers.
