This isn't a bad idea. Greene and his crew totally blew the hiring of a new Police Chief - they were completely unaware that Reid had a legal right to stay on at his former position - so they now have an extra lieutenant and with benefits, he has cost the village about $150,000 or more per year. If they weren't so clandestine about the replacement, they could have found that out had they called in Reid and let him know they were unhappy.

Each and every year we hear more & more of the backroom stuff & corruption & ineptitude of the Citizens Party. Don't people see how close its behavior mimics the communist party abroad. We don't just need a change of Mayor, but of that Party too.

The Citizen's Party has controlled politics in FP for decades. The real decision for Mayor is made behind closed doors, and you can be certian the decision has already been made - way before Greene had his letter published (and approved if not written by the clan). The Gateway is their mouthpiece, and you will never him them criticized by the editors. They will be notified in advance of any negative letter to the editor.

I'd like to know why everything like this is found out after the fact.

Why? Because the idiots who run this town like the Cosa Nostra - behind closed doors and in secret - didn't know themselves until the ex-police commissioner by RIGHT could assume his prior position. It was a bonehead move - as boneheaded as having a good man find out via a third party that he was being replaced. It was disrespectful and improper to fire a longtime faithful village servant wihtout ONCE putting him on notice regarding his job performance. Any good manager, and Greene claims he is a manager, although apparently a middle to low level guy, critiques a deficient employee and helps construct a corrective plan of action. The Cosa Nostra - they just whack people.

Alot of people feel that Floral Park is a dictatorship, and so the Unity Party was born. However, the Citizens Party did everything they could to stay in power--lie, cheat, etc. And, of course, have The Gateway at their disposal. The Unity Party put up a good, fair fight, but the Citizen's Party got the Republican Party to financially back them. Then they waited until a couple of days before the election and totally lied. For example, they said that someone from Charles Street heard someone from the Unity Party say that the Unity Party will disband the private police department. This was an absolute lie, since I was vounteer with the Unity Party. The Citizens Party had so much more money at their disposal for advertising and lying due to the fact that they had money coming in from the Republican party.
Instead of complaining, I would like to see another party formed (or have the Unity Party start up again) but we need lots of volunteers and lots of money.

It would be nice if there was a legitimate two party system in FP. A few years ago a bright young 20 something ear old woman put up a commendable campaign that was gaining traction. She should have won an elected seat, until the citizen's party and the Gateway did all they could to discredit her, and she eventually lost.

The Unity Party or any incarnation, would have to be formed with dandidates that already have solid reputations in town - school board memebers, little league BOD, etc. The problem is, the Citizen's Party is so well organized and connected, that it would take a massive , commensurate effort by a group that is bright, motivated, and funded. Honestly, most successful people have better things to do than dabble in town politics.

Yes, everything you say, Peter is completely true. The woman should have won, but as you said, the Citizens Party, who control the Gateway, did a great "smear campaign" and unfortunately, it worked. The Citizens Party will do ANYTHING to stay in power and they will stop at NOTHING to keep their power. Sounds alot like Russia or China.
