Would anyone argue that the local newspaper are a joke. All that ever gets reported are who gets arrested and what john bord or the rest of the klan think about it.... its time we had a journalist in west virginia that actually interviewed the victoms and accused as well. Not just what John Bord wants you to hear.... anyone in grafton knows dam well many many people have some very interesting stories to tell... and I don't mean who's on pills and having sex with which politician.... ok.... well maybe if its about the politicians sex life... comments?

LOL, the local rag is just that--A RAG.

I find it utterly amazing at how many spelling and grammatical errors I find whenever I try to read it. The "editors" don't do a very good job, nobody proofreads apparently.

On top of that, it doesn't pay anybody to advertise in it.

My pet peeve: Whenever they run a story where police are involved, they have to take up half of the article naming each and every single policeman, fireman, EMS technician, etc. to kill some space and fill that space LOL.

I just read your Post about the Mountain Statesman News Paper. I guess you might be right they need a reporter that will not only get the State of West Virginia side, but a statement from the Victim and
the Accused.

All hear the problem though. If the Victim gave a different statement then he or she gave to the Police, then there could be Criminal Charges.

If the Accused gave a Statement he or she could give the State of West Virginia more evidence against themselfs and even possible add to the charges.

The News Paper is a Public Notice and could be used in a Court of Law as evidence. I know of no Lawyer that would allow his Client to do this.

You are right when the News Paper run a Story they do name everyone that was there. That is because they do have to fill the paper. This might because business dont want to advertise and no one else wants to put special events in the paper, because they want to pay for it.

Yea... well... though many attorneys would advise against revealing any truth, wv media holdings as a rule ignore any position on legal matters nit given them by prosecuters judges cops ir firemans...this rag certainly goes out of its way to prosecute anyone they are directed to and refuse to print any opposing viewpoint.... even from those not directly involved.

Well... Plenty of happy proclamations and ... Well, there are plenty of proclamations. Seriously, If you're looking for reporting, it's in there. I don't see how you can hold spelling and grammer against anybody from gtown... After all, we do a perty good job of leading the way when it comes to drop outs.(which is exacly what the counselors and the principal tell troubled students to do.) Can't blame the high school completely when only one in five fourth graders can read or write at a fourth grade level... And eighth grade ain't much better. Those stats are from the US Dept of education. Hows that for reporting you wont see in the mountain statesman?

Just throwin' this out there. The editor of the Statesman just changed about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I am hopeful about what the change will bring.

BAPM, I've read some of the articles that the new editor has written, he's no better than the one that left.

How hard could it possibly be to edit and proofread a 10-page newspaper, really??

Editing is more important than grammar and spelling I suppose. We can't have the real dirt ever come to light, can we? It might frighten the farm animals away.

Despite the gossipy nature of topix, their is no better newssource in the state. Believe what you will but at least the truth is mingled within the drama in stead of edited out completely.

Did you know that grafton once had three news papers? I wonder if any of them had the nerve to actually report on anything which could damaging to the establishment.
We live in a place where people can be threatened to be seen and heard less at public meetings. Where meetings can be held when and however... "they can do what they want"... Claims a reporter from the mountain statesman.
This site... Good and bad... A grain of salt would be advised.

"They can do whatever they want" That really is a disturbing statemen when even here threats arent uncommon...

Nonetheless at least it is a free and open forum for all, and many inconvienient truths can be discussed anonymously without fear of assault or kangaroo court lawsuits brought by lawyers with a dozen ethics complaints.

It is amazing to me that despite legitimate facts so many issues continue to be ignored by the officers of the courts... for example how does a grafton informant out on bail for assault overdose a 19 year old girl with pills and alchohol that dies in his bed... yet no charges are filed, and his bond isn't even revoked? Any comments Mountain Statesman? What about you John Bord? Any answers at all?

This for one is verifiable fact... though the news never covered the story. It occurred on washington street approximately Summer of 2008... any information on the identity of the victim would be appreciated.

I find it amazing that there are so many complaints about grammer and spelling in the Mountain Statesman newspaper, and yet most of these posts can't manage a single paragraph without having the same problem. What a bunch of hippocrate. Apparently you have nothing better to do with your lives than complain about others. And if you actually had any proof to back up a story then it would have gotten out there. However all you have is gossip and the bullspit you have picked up off the street.
The old adage - "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything" apparently has not be pass around to you people

Speak of the devil...lol Frankly I don't give a grafton rats bollox about spelling nor the grammar of that outhouse rag... Time to face reality though, spelled approprietly or not... The mountain statesmen prints what its told to. Truth has not one thing to do with it. Ask Atlee Holland.... Now Go forth and sin no more, doing exactly what you accuse others of would be the definition of hippocrit too...btw

PS... noone should be so ashamed of their grafton education that they withhold their opinions...misspelled or not.

Does anybody know who actually ownes the mountain statesman? And just how many lies and diatortions can be printed before they can be held accountable? Seriously... I am second guessing everything i've ever read from atleast one reporter. If you dont check into the facts, why would you print anything? Purhaps an agenda? A good friend drove it home the other day when he said "grafton would be such a nice place if it weren't so corrupt." My point, it isn't stupidity that intentionally distorts the truth.
