The Republicans are DESTROYING this country. There is absolutely NO ONE ELSE to blame for their ignorant extremism. They lost the presidential election and the they lost the congressional elections -- they are literally destroying democracy itself!

Health care reform HAD to happen. The writings been on the wall for a long time. 15 - 20 years ago, Republicans and Democrats agreed on that.

1. Healthcare costs were rising at three times the rate of wages.

2. Wages were (and are) stagnant for almost thirty years due to America putting the burden of providing insurance on business rather than government.

3. Bankruptcies due to medical bills were (and are) skyrocketing to millions per year.

4. Lack of regulation meant (and still means) you could get a procedure at one hospital billed to Medicare for $30,000 and go to another hospital to get the same exact procedure and see it billed to Medicare for $150,000.

5. Due to costs America had (and still has) the second highest infant mortality rate due to the extreme cost of preventive medicine in America.

6. America had (and still has) one of the highest rates of medical errors due to a lack of nationwide electronic medical records.

A little over 15 years ago, Clinton favored fixing these issues by starting a one-payer healthcare system like many other countries with higher wages and better healthcare outcomes.

The Republicans wanted an "individual mandate" that would force people to buy their own insurance.

Guess which plan was passed by Obama and the Democrats?

You see "yeah-yeah," you as well as you're Tea Party backed Republicans are completely irrational. Unfortunately, we all have to pay for your ignorance.

BTW "yeah-yeah," if you hate The Affordable Care Act so much, then what do you suggest we do to address the problems listed above?

My guess is nothing.

There are independents such as myself who are former Democrats. I had to change my registration in 1980 in order to do petitioning for John Anderson, and never switched back. I believe the law has been changed so that switching to neutral is no longer necessary.

WHSV.com All of the parks, forests, campgrounds, trails, lodges, cabins, golf courses and other recreational facilities operated by the Parks and Recreation Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will continue operations as normal.
WSAZ.com (WSAZ)-- Nearly a hundred employees at the New River Gorge National River have been furloughed following the federal government shutdown, a park spokesperson says.

Only nine employees considered essential are still on the job overseeing the 70,000 acres of the park, along with the Gauley River National Area and the Bluestone National Scenic River.

The park’s visitors centers are blocked off with caution tape and a sign duct-taped to a barrel saying "Because of the federal government shutdown, this national park service facility is closed.”

Roads to campgrounds have also been blockaded.

Rangers have been telling visitors they have to vacate by Thursday since the campground can't be maintained or fully patrolled during this government shutdown.
The Huntington V.A. Hospital will not be affected, Public Affairs Officer Debbie Brammer said.

Brammer says they've already been fully funded through next September.

"We've been fully funded for fiscal year 2014,” she said.“That means our hospital, our clinic, all of our services will remain open."

Gilmerfreepress.net
All West Virginia’s 35 state parks, seven state forests, five wildlife management recreation areas, the Greenbrier River Trail, and the North Bend Rail Trail are open and operating normally.

The federal government shutdown affects only national forests, parks and recreation areas.

West Virginia is at the bottom of the barrel because of its people rather than its representatives. Business is attracted to two things:

1. Well-developed infrastructure.

2. A highly educated populace.

Democrats such as Robert Byrd have been instrumental in improving WV infrastructure.

College educations in West Virginia are also some of the least costly in the country, but West Virginians are the least educated in the country.

Now considering those facts...who's to blame for West Virginia's current state "genxr?"

Oh, and no one has even attempted to refute Mountain Mama's 100 Percent true claims regarding the necessity of the Affordable Care Act.

Time to make the Republican Party a thing of the past.

It's almost to simple to explain! If you constantly give monies to ppl who never contribute positively to society i.e welfare and its assistance ! You can never over come national poverty. Keeping us all in large amounts of national debt! As you will see October 17! The whole wage issues are that your not supposed to stay in entry level positions as adult! You brought up infant mortality rates high, an abortion happens ever 4 minutes! Ummmm! Someone's paying for them! Obama care was in part a republican bill years ago. Since introduced Obama had changed it to favor his believe and policies 19 times! In the beginning i said national parks because its FEDERAL shutdown! Republican said if shutdown continued they would personally fund the VA.Even tho I don't believe is possible You cant just pick one particular article you saw there are others in VA who's scheduled surgeries wont happen because of. Since i work i cant sit around all day quoting my parties "people". I commend you for your hard work and dedication Mountain Mama! Come on with your liberal blaming everyone else self!

First,

Raising the minimum wage keeps America OUT of debt and keeps people off welfare. Walmart alone is costing some states upwards of 200 million dollars by advocating welfare to their employees instead of providing a minimum wage. Hell, the Swiss are voting to make a monthly wage of $2,800.00 mandatory for ALL people who work and your Republican Party can't get behind a raise in minimum wage to get it in line with the cost of
living?

So SHUT UP.

Obamacare will REDUCE the amount of those on welfare. Many stay on welfare (especially mothers) because their choice is to either take a low paying job with no healthcare, or remain on welfare where they are eligible for access to government healthcare. Obamacare will provide healthcare to these individuals (in the states that passed the Medicaid expansion) until they have worked long enough to obtain health insurance.

So SHUT UP.

The majority of individual making minimum wage are adult workers. You REALLY need to stop saying that minimum wage is meant for "entry-level" workers -- that is bull. America for decades believed minimum wage should reflect a livable wage. The only people that think differently are nutjob Tea Partiers and Republicans. Again, if every country with higher standards of living and lower national debt can do it, then it is morally and economically imperative that we do the same.

So SHUT UP.

Not only is the final version of Obamacare more reflective of the 160 changes congressional Republicans made to it when it was a bill, but they also succeeded in getting the "public option" portion of the policy removed. That was possibly the most important aspect needed to keep costs down long term.

So SHUT UP.

You think things are "simple" because you're a moron and see things in simplistic terms while failing to see the complexity of any given issue.

So SHUT UP.

Yeah yeah, in this Topix thread you only referred to state parks in posts #1 and #8. You did not mention national parks until you just tried to cover up for yourself.
Googling for "VA hospital suspended surgery" turns up several instances where that has happened, but only for procedural or bureaucratic reasons, not because of the federal shutdown. Maybe the Republicans did say they would fund VA on their own, but they say a lot of things that turn out to be lies and bluster. And there is no need, since the VA has already been funded through fiscal year 2014. It just sounds good, but they will never be called on to do it.
Having made the claims, it is up to you to back them up with facts, not opinions, or admit that you were mistaken. All your posts I have seen so far here and on other threads so far have been uninformed, unsupported opinions and loudmouthed insults. There has been no rational discussion from you, just rabble-rousing and preaching to your choir.

Here's something you likely won't get to see in the local media. I found it on dailykos. com.
A Republican congressman from Texas berates a park ranger for a problem that the congressman helped to cause.
In an astounding confrontation that took place yesterday at the World War II Memorial in DC, a Tea Party congressman from Texas appeared to blame the Park Service for denying veterans access to the facility — and then made a Park Ranger apologize for the shutdown. "How do you look at them and ... deny them access?" Rep. Randy Neugebauer asked the unidentified Ranger in an incredible exchange that was caught on camera by NBC Washington."It's difficult," the Ranger replied. "Well, it should be difficult," scorned the congressman.
"It is difficult," the Ranger repeated. "I'm sorry, sir.""The Park Service should be ashamed of themselves," said Neugebauer. "I'm not ashamed," the Ranger retorted.
"You should be," sneered Neugebauer.
At that point, a crowd of onlookers got involved. "Ask those questions of the people who aren't passing the budget," shouted a voice from the crowd. "That's who you need to ask these questions to."
"This woman is doing her job, just like me," shouted another. "I'm a 30-year federal veteran -- I'm out of work."
