my internet provider told me that unless someone has alot of technical equipment at home, they usually can't get your IP address. now the people who come to your home can get it from your computer. the website gets it, but for just someone like you or me, it would be extremely hard to get your IP. The way they talked a person couldn't get it without all types of equipment.

Wow they totally bullshited you. Google IPs and Ip trackers, they are simple and easy to use.

The easiest way is to switch your browser over to HTML mode, instead of the location you will see their IP address and port number.

Can you track me? Please, please don't put my name on here. Just a simple yes or no. Do you know who I am?
Let me know!

I don't bother with that crap its not my style.

Now I will check IPs if I think that some idiot is multi posting under different names trying to drum up support for their stupidity.

HTML mode will let you see the IP and port number but it doesn't show the name and address, that takes a bit more work. And quite frankly I am too lazy to do that all the time.

How would it show your name. And its not a "software" exactly its called DHCP, Dynamic Host Control Protocol. This is the service that gives you a new IP address every couple of Days or how ever often set by your ISP. Your name is not revealed from an IP address. The only thing that you can find is what city, what provider the user has. The city is somewhat inacurate due to the fact that ISP's reallocate their addressing scheme due to lack or surplus of IP addresses in one city. For example, if you are a windstream customer whom lives in Flemingsburg, you may get either a Morehead, KY IP number or a Flemingsburg, KY IP number. This is due to the fact that Windstream "own's" their IP numbers and can allocate them as they wish. When your modem whether its cable, DSL or satellite logs onto your ISP's network, you are assigned as specific address for that session (remember the session can be hours, days, or weeks which are set by your provider) the address is linked with your user logon on the providers side. They (The provider) are the only ones that can get the information that links the IP address to a user account.

by the way. You can check your IP address by going to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ this will provide you with your IP address. If you click the "track now" button it will show you all of the above.^ Also, you may notice it has a lat and long. cordinate. This is the location of your ISP's POP.(Point of Presence) This is not your location but the location of where your IP address is generated.

One last thing. If you have DSL you can point your browser to http://192.168.254.254 this will also tell your IP address. This is the address of your dsl modem.:)

Oh thats a proxy server, basically its routing all of the traffic from your computer through a remote server. Click tools, internet options, connections tab, lan settings, put either the hostname of the IP of the remote server and the port number which is normaly 8080. Thanks.. At least someone appreciates correct knowledge :)

How do I change my IP location to read 'United States' instead of the location that is shown?

I see many people posting this way.
