The whole school system sucks if you aren't one of the wealthy beautiful families. All the teachers, with the exception of a few, are snobs and dont give a damn about thier jobs or the students they are tasked to teach. Avoid Russell and send your kids to GC or Raceland.I wouldnt piss on the superintendants head if his hair was on fire.

What is happening up there. Seems not going very good. A lot of bad publicity recently.

Poor management, incompetent teachers, pretty much just your basic disreguard for the entire learning process. Nothing unusual. Not to mention teachers having sex with students and all that old news.

What can be done about this?

We could start by requireing all the teachers to undergo a skills test each year.(tougher than what they already do) We could also recruit better teachers to begin with.

Maybe if the would randomly drug test the teachers they would not have had one of the problems they had recently. How many teachers would fail?

Well I think the bigger problem is parents who don't care what their kids are doing. You gripe about the teachers, but what do you do to help inhance your child's education? Well you would probably have to turn off the computer for that, lol. And by the way, Russell's superintendent is a woman. Oh and also how many parents would pass a drug test???? Not many.

I agree 100% with shock and awe. The problems with ANY schools are, in most ways, the kids that aren't getting the attention they need and deserve @ home. When parents don't set good examples for their children, how do you expect the child to act outside the home. Todays parents have thrown morals out the window. But I must say, I do agree with teachers being drug tested. I've never understood why they don't. As far as educational wise, you couldn't get any better. My kids are doing great there and I couldn't be happier with the great teachers that we have had.

Teachers, volunteers, bus drivers, all other administration and students with any extra-curricular activities or who drives are randomly drug tested.

No, they are not drug tested @ all unless an issue arises that causes speculation. Whoever told you otherwise is wrong Russell Parent, I know a few of every position you named, with the exception of administration, and none of them have yet to be tested in the many years they have worked in the system.

I think Russell Is Actually an Amazing school District. My Daughter comes home all the time saying how great and Nice her teachers are and even how sweet her bus driver is!.. And No she is not in the 1st grade. But 6th. She tells me all the time that , that school is one of the best she's ever been to and she's moved around alot. So i believe her. and Yes there are alot of Kids there with rich Parents and they are stuck up, But no reason to treat them bad! So i myself Believe that Russell Is an Amazing school

My daughter also attends RMS. She loves school and has friends spend the night both rich and poor. Yes there are a few clickish type but it's mainly held to the parents. Not saying Russell Schools are without faults, but name a school that is? Like Plato once said " You get out of school what you put into it". Oh yea...Plato is my dog and speaks to me at night. LOL

Some of you folks must be in the snob click. You may or may not have the money to hang with but are anyway.
Read my post about Russell schools over on the Russell blog.
Russell is yes,a good school for academics, but is losing ground in it's social structure fast !
A lot of the teachers are their for a paycheck only.My aunt is a retired teacher and she'll be the first to tell you that.No dedication anymore.
But Russell is Russell. If you don't appear to be a golden child, your in the "Student Left Out" program.
I'm from an affluant type family and Russell has always made me sick in this sence.
It's "Oh where does your Daddy work" instead of "Great job for what you know or can do".
And don't tell me go somewhere else if you like it,because it's on my mind already.
"I wonder, who will appreciate my tax dollars more ".
Oh but wait ! Eucation isn't about money.
You know ,there's alot in that sentence if you think real hard about it.

Sorry to tell you "heres what I know" but those things happen in every school district. And I also hate to tell you that if a teacher is there only for the paycheck they don't have very high ambitions, lol, because teachers make NOTHING! lol. If you think about what it costs teachers to go to college and then to continue their education, which they must do or lose their job, then you would realize that they are not there for the money. I agree there are teachers in every school that are not great with kids, but there are also teachers there who would spend every dime of their paycheck, stay after school, come before school, work all summer, to help your child if that is what it took. We pay daycares 100 + dollars a week just to babysit our children, we pay teachers just enough to get by.

I have very reliable resources. And by the way, they can't do drug screens by speculation. The drugs screens are random. A lab tech from KDMC shows up with a list that is generated from a database of who will be drug tested on the day they show up.
