YMCA! I miss the food! I used to go eat there a lot. I remember the black and white checked flooring being the neatest thing I'd ever seen.

The old gas station off of 23 by the underpass. The Rich station right up the street from it and the Rich station in Flatwoods. The last of the two places who actually provided full service at the pump! What I wouldn't give to have somebody do it for me in the cold!(I know some are technically Russell but I couldn't resist)

L and J- Sad to see it go. I loved their hot dogs and they had that really good crushed ice.

Ice cold bottles of Mountain Dew straight from the local pop machines. I miss glass bottles. I swear it tasted better.

They tore down the old Chevron at the end of 2010.Russell condemned it last summer. How do you condem it and leave the Y standing???!!! The old Rich on 23 fell in the ground, undermind by the creek it was built on top of,10 years ago. I can answer or remember lots about the city of Russell.

There was a Chevron beside Carmans Funeral home and across the street was Lees Drive in.There was a Mussetters in Flatwoods too.The 4way stop had a Smittys then it moved? Out by windys hills when it was a windy farm..LOL Don't forget Sledind at Fletchers farm. And Giovannis was also beside Marys donut shop for a time, then that was tore down and there was a NAPA there for a while, and Scotts furniture was in there as was Roger Kilgore.

Scotts Drug store, but we always like the Scotts in Russell beter. But Fraleys drug store and Soda Fountain was the best!!

frailies drugs in russell rocked, had a very good soda fountain, they had builtin cabinetry around the walls that was absolutely beautiful, the drug store side was loaded with those same apothecary style shelving and cabinetry, mom suffered from migranes at times, she would send me to frailies to get her an ammonia coke,in a round paper carton, held about a quart, and who can forget dr.frailie himself, short bespectacled and grey hair .i think reba irwin worked there she was a sweetie, one of my moms good friends.

All I wanted to do is leave Flatwoods after graduating in '95. And I got married and left. Now, I'd love to go back. Better enjoy the small things now for one day we'll look back and realize those were the big things.

I remember all of these places. Edmonds Dairy Bar before it was Edmonds...it was called Carters....the lady that owned it was named Blackie. We used to ride in the back of my Dad's pick up truck to get ice cream. It was a highlight!! I remember when peanut butter milkshakes first came out....they were great!! And the Apache Drive In on 23....my Mom took me and my older brother there to eat when she told us she was pregnant with my little brother. What I would give to go back to those days!!!

there's gotta be photos of these old places ,so why don't some enterprising local historian get them all together if only online or maybe a pamphlet.seems like the apache had those funky yellow bug lights outside and possibly a indian sign ,what i remember most is the variety of cars there ,went there with my brother in mid 60's.did the highway take it out? if so when was that.

Clines Market was where the Bellefonte Outreach was which is now being turned into a funeral home by Jason Bailey and JP Bailey. I remember going there with my Dad to get a carton of Lucky Strikes which only cost $2.10 a carton and he would send me in to get them. I was only about 9-10 years old!!! I remember every single place that has been mentioned here!!!! I love this thread!!!

There was a laundromat beside that IGA across from the Super America at the foot of Wheeler Hill. Both of them burned to the ground.
