They should have tied their fat white trash asses down in a bed and let the rats chew on them for awhile. I cannot believe all they got was probabtion for letting the rats eat on this helpless child. That house was an absolute disgrace. I wouldn't have let my dog stay the night in there. Not to mention neither one of them had a job. If our tax paying dollars were paying to keep their sorry asses up, they could have at least cleaned up their house. Thank God this little boy doesn't have to suffer any longer. I hope they rot in hell for the way they treated this little boy!

I may not have a lot of money, but I know how to keep my home clean and I know how to take care of my special needs child. I just don't think they cared. Good riddance.

No Lokel, they WERE NOT jailed for poverty.

They were jailed for allowing their kid with a disability to be eaten by frickkin rats.

You can have a clean house and live in poverty.

I too am glad this kid will not suffer anymore.

The parents should have to suffer.

They HAD TO KNOW that the kid was being bitten if he was bitten over 100 times.

As a caring mother of a child with a disability, I want to know where every little scratch comes from.

This situation could have been prevented.

"Contributing to the delinquency of a minor?"

They were jailed because they broke the rules of their probation. If they had nowhere else to go but to her mother's, I would like to believe the courts would have granted that. They didn't bother to tell the probation officer a thing and simply disappeared.

What I've never understood is the charge they ended up with, contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Isn't that charge condoning of or allowing a minor child to participate in an illegal activity?

I understand poor and I even understand how quickly a rat infestation can occur, but the filth...it really went beyond excuse and I believe they could have received help had they asked.

Jailed for poverty? You are kidding right? Are you saying these parents had nothing to do with the conditions their child lived in, or the "care" he received?

They were jailed for leaving the State of NC (I believe or Henderson County), because they could not afford a place here (the trailer they were renting was condemned and they were evicted), and went to live with her mother .... if this is not being jailed for poverty I do not know what is.

I have no comment regarding the circumstances which led them to be be on probation.

No they weren't - they were jailed for violating the terms of their probation.

They WERE recieving help. They were both on welfare. Poverty my ass. The taxpayers are in poverty for keeping up sorry pieces of shit like this. Poor doesn't excuse nasty. I live in a very small, humble home but you can better believe it is clean and not rat infested. You can't make me belive that this child wasn't screaming for hours before he recieved help. Bitten over 100 times? They didn't give a shit about this poor child and that is the sad truth. I'd like to tie them down and let the rats eat on them for awhile.

I made no excuses for them whatsoever. And, I did mean help with the rat infestation. The cleanest of homes can suffer from that and they should have sought that extra aide immediately. I can't for one second believe that any exterminating company would not have helped them had they known the situation! Their filth and gross negligence toward their son is why I commented on my questioning of the charges. I thought that charge was reserved for a child doing something wrong and the parent being responsible for allowing it to occur.

The woman's mother lives in East Flat Rock, however. They left the area first without notifying the probation officer then came back to Henderson County to live with her, according to the story. That doesn't really have anything to do with being rich or poor.

My poor and proud Appalachian grandmother taught me growing up that it is *never* as important to be tidy and clean as when you're poor. Where I'm from you would see people living in shacks without floorboards, and still the dirt floors got swept every day just as proudly as if it were a mansion. These people were not jailed for being poor. Moreover I've known homeless people who were on probation, and every one of them was smart enough to know that you get in touch with your probation officer before you go out of the county to stay with someone. There isn't an excuse.

Speaking of RATS..
I have seen two crashes involving
innocent drivers crashing into the
NEW tank traps on my road.
One was a small blue Honda
that received a broken wheel and axle from
the curb placed into the road near
Kimberly and Farrwood.
Way to go Town Council.
Looking forward to your Un-Election Day.
I hope you are sued by these driver/victims!

Laura, what gives you the idea that thses people are white?
Also you seem to think they were collecting welfare?
My heart goes out to that poor child, he is in a better place
Well, when the story first broke those details were all over this site and WLOS, maybe she saw it there. I can still recall their photographs, and that's not a good thing. They had a look of people who made no attempt at caring for themselves or their surroundings, sometimes you can see the unhealth.

They were white, thier pics have been all over the news. They were on welfare because when this first happened the stupid wife admitted they were. Neither worked. How else could they live except off of us.

They replayed nearly everything from before on WLOS.
It's that poor young boy's face I'll always remember.

What upset me most was that these parents seemed completely oblivious to the fact that they had done such a horrible injustice to their child. They seemed to honestly believe that the community would see them all as victims. Not just their son.

I think they intentionally gave him cerebral palsy. Or got him high on rat bites?

You are so ignorant.

You can't give your child CP.

However, it can happen during the birthing process.

High on rat bites??? WTF is this supposed to mean?
