Look at the unemployment figures. Shelbyville Indiana currently has a runway of the size they want to build here and theri unemploment is only 1% better than ours.

North Vernon has a comparable runway to the size they want to build here AND they have military support....their unemployment is 1% worse than ours.....

They built it....did they come?

Is it worth a 32 million dollar investment for a possible (but not probable) 1% increase or decrease in our unemployment?

Not to mention being obligated to FAA restrictions and the operational costs?

Again...i have a voice recording from NTN / BCA saying that this airport or not other airport had anything to do with their leaving and then they give all the reasons why they left. WOuld be glad to share .

You would have to bring that up again! "jam'it"!
=THE POWERS TO BE= decided that a 'popular vote'
would solve your question...that majority rule thing...
"&" speaking of ((jobs for locals));
How many local contractors on the Lincoln Street project?
How many work @ Honda?
Do you purchase groceries, building supples, and generally patronize local businesses?
It all means 'jobs for locals' "&" keeping the $money$ in the community.

It really is gonna bring jobs to town because im sure all of the work will be done by out of town contractors maybe a little by in town ones but even if it does create jobs for a couple months then there gone we need long term jobs. And also after the stupid airport is up an going then taxes will more then likely have to go up to pay to keep the thing going.

This information came across on a General Aviation alert that i get.

I read with great interest the following letter to the editor below written by Mayor Bill Young of Walterboro.

He apparently has an airport 35 minutes up the road from his town in another county and can't see wasting Federal Funds to duplicate that effort.

We should seriously consider these words of wisdom when we have an airport with a runway of the proposed size less than 30 minutes from us at Shelbyville, In. Not to mention Colombus and North Vernon.

Here now is his letter:

"I read with interest about the proposal for a larger airport in Jasper County. I hope to shed light on a formidable resource for general aviation already in operation and in the region the proposed airport would serve.

Just 35 minutes up Interstate 95 in neighboring Colleton County, the Lowcountry Regional Airport in Walterboro is the largest general aviation airport in the state and is more than capable of handling expected growth projections. Featuring three runways from 5,550 feet to 6,007 feet, it's centrally located between Charleston, Savannah and Beaufort. Yet it was left out of the recent trip sponsored by the S.C. Aeronautics Commission.

It is in an area primed for expansion, with 80 additional acres secured for future runway extension. Its primary runway was recently resurfaced, making it safer for larger jets, including the 737 and Gulfstream 650 jet. An adjoining parallel taxiway was recently constructed to serve increased traffic.

When competition for federal funding is scarce, is a duplicative airport the best use of our resources? According to a March 21 story in The (Charleston) Post and Courier, Scott Seritt of the Federal Aviation Administration estimated a new airport with a 5,000 foot runway would cost $15 million to $35 million.

We need to work together to best utilize and maximize our existing facilities and use any available funding to build where facilities are not already available. Using the existing regional airport not only makes good sense, it's also far more prudent in these lean financial times.

Mayor Bill Young
Walterboro

oh goody! the possibility of one job for the person who posted the above and it will only cost we the taxpayers 32 million dollars as projected in the BOard of Aviation Commissioners airport layout plan!

Not to mention the operational costs! SOunds like an Obama Bargain Bailout plan! Will likely work just as well!

Compare the unemployment rates where they already have a runway the size they want to build here. Some have even worse unemployment than we have! 75 % can't afford to operate them and it falls back on we the taxpayers to anty up.

Wake up! before we are further burdened!!

Our economy needs more government jobs i thik all jobs should be government. Everythin the government touches thrives and always does well as history has shown look at the post office, amtrak, social security. want me to keep going. Just another thing the government needs to stay out of if the business wants them so bad and needs them they will pay for it look at Hill-Rom.

actually in one of the videos i have...Bill Ernstes stated that Hillenbrands were in support of us building this airport....

you have to ask youself why? when their runway is very close in size to what they want to build here?

Could it be that the maintenance and upkeep is a burden and it would be easier to use a nearby facility?

SUre can't be for their convienance.

I'm building a 'solar' plant with the money the DOE gave me, compliments of Obama.
Starting salaries are $ 2.5 million/year - you work 2 months and get fired! Hey it's more than 1/2 of you will make the rest of your lives so no complaining!
He's only giving me $500,ooo,ooo and I'm hiring 10 employees... so I'm gona keep $458,333,340 - MY share as a 1%'er.
But I guess you want to know what you'll earn:
$4,166,666 - that's before taxes, SS, insurance, retirement,FICA, and all the other good stuff I get to deduct before I file bankruptcy.
=Obama I have 'no idea' what happened to all the money why don' you just push it under the rug and forget about it?
Wait! I do remember donating to something called Soros files.com , and tell Aunt Pelosi & Uncle Reid I'll be home for Christmas.

Hill-Rom is not stupid yes they are all for us opening one its only another ten minutes for them to drive and why wouldnt they. The airport is a MONEY PIT, its like a boat or rv. They are very expensive to maintain and we dont have the income at ours to expand or even support ours. I would be surprised if ours is even in the black since skydive moved out. And if we do need it so bad lets move the dumb thing in the country who wnats airplanes landing around the kids at the park or ball diamonds.

jam that up there...

What is your expertise in regards to aviation? How many boats and RV's have you owned Mr. 1%?

Difficult to compare boats and RV's to airports. Easier to compare boats and RV's to airplanes.:)Compare apples to apples.

Most people don't purchase boats and RV's to generate income.

That being said, some people do and the boats are used as fishing / hunting charter boats that actually do general significant income / jobs.

And I have seen many RV's converted into food stands at fairs and other events that generate significant income / jobs. Don't forget that Marina's, the equivalent of an "aircraft's" airport for "boats" do generate jobs and income.

So it might be better to compare the airport to a marina, and aircraft to boats and RV's.

I heard Hill-Rom leased their airport out, is there any truth to that? They still get to fly their Leers there, I don't remember the arrangements.
Q:jam'it: lets move the dumb thing in the country who wants airplanes landing around the kids at the park or ball diamonds.
** Good point, "BUT" keep it away form me for 2 'good' reasons:
1. I don't have any property I want 'whatever it's called'
2. Them damn things make a lot of noise taking off and landing, I could hear that skydive plane as soon as it got off the ground and then it'd fly right over my house (thought about sho0ting it down), but it was usually to low for everyone to bail out.
\|NOT THAT IT IS ANY OF MY BUSINESS - BUT!|/
Why don't they file a financial report of the expected business a new airport would bring in and verify the need?

Riddle me this:

Did the airport used to cost city / county taxpayers tax dollars? If so, how many city / county tax dollars were being spent a year to subsidize the airport operations?

How much is the airport costing city taxpayers now compared to what it cost taxpayers when it was a joint city / county venture?

If you don't know the answers, quick - call June Ryle - she has the answers...

After years of videotaping the airport board and the elected officials i find it entertaining that you are questioning Jam It Up Theres aviation expertise.

I have heard the airport board compare the airport expansion to the highway 3 bypass or interstate 74..... that is certainly no apple to apples comparison .

ALSO the Concerned Citizens of Decatur County HAVE hired an AVIATION SPECIALIST who also used to be an attorney in the ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT of the FAA after hearing the airport board put out information that conflicted with what the FAA was telling the Concerned Citizens and other public officials. Our elected officials had an opportunity to hire this AVIATION SPECIALIST AND FORMER FAA ATTORNEY and passed on it!!!!!!

We were hoping this would help to sort this issue out...but i guess they didn't want their agenda sorted out.

So who are the mysterious "Concerned Citizens of Greensburg" Jean?

Why did you want taxpayers to foot the bill for your bunch (the Concerned Citizens of Decatur County) FAA attorney (compare to an ambulance chaser). Why should Greensburg taxpayers foot the bill for a county organization?

So has the FAA attorney sorted anything out while being paid with your dime? He is still working right? What is stopping him from sorting things out as you put it, and having his findings published in the newspaper? Seems kinda funny this great and wonderful ass_set has not come up with any earth shattering information since being hired by the "Concerned Citizens of Decatur County".

Hey it appears someone purchased the domain name for "Concerned Citizens of Decatur County" even though there is no proof there is such an organization, they only appear to have one member and spokesperson, Jean Johannigman. Similar to the Concerned Citizens of Greensburg, which has several anonymous members and one spokesperson. But they do have a website...
