People have been saying this for years now. The reservations need a better school system to get kids ready for the competitiveness of the work force and college. Better education on the reservations is long overdue.

The only thing that will make a difference on reservation schools would be that the students would try harder and the parents and gaurdians need to be more accountable for the lack of effort of their kids.

I don't think you should give your opinion if you can't do it good yourself, I mean, you can't even spell guardian right. O.o

I may be relocating to the areas of Dunseith and/or Rolla in North Dakota. Will somebody who lives there please give me a striaght answer on the schools systems (good or bad). I have always heard that the North Dakota schools systems were academically sound. Your help is appreciated.

Relocater, I would find your opinions elsewhere than this site, esp. this board.
Yes, bitter or negative people aside - ND school systems are academically sound and generally regarded as great (there is room for improvement but only Washington can change that....).
Small schools are closing every year, and consolidating into larger schools, I wont deny that and it IS a shame.

p.s. I live here. I work here. I see this everyday. I agree whole heartedly with Ted.

I went to school in Cooperstown, Rolla, and graduated at Devils Lake. Rolla was the best of the three. Small, but not too small.

I joined the service and ended up in OK. They are ranked 46th in the nation in education. I came here, went to college and only had to pay attention in class and recieved a 3.5 GPA almost effortlessly. I credit that to the outstanding education I received in Rolla.

I would also like to give a big credit to the fact that all three schools, especially Rolla were athletic schools, but education came first. I was a starter for Varsity Football, Wrestling, and Track, and if I didn't make the grades - I didn't play.

I also agree with Ted and NDnative. The funding is completely misallocated due to the demographics.

I'm only commenting because I attended high school in Belcourt, ND, six miles from Rolla. I also live in OKC.

Daily Horoscope for December 2

Capricorn

The Gemini Full Moon brings situations at work to a head; there may be a sudden event that shakes up the office, but you should be free and clear of any real trouble. The real issue is the one you have most likely been avoiding: what sort of state is your health in? Have you been buying larger pants each year for the past three or four years in a row? Is your idea of strenuous exercise scooping hard ice cream out of the carton? If so, it's time for some changes.
