If you are considering moving to Havasu or visiting I would recommend to google "corrupt cops lake Havasu" and read the LH news article and postings. It will open yours but at least you will have an informed opinion before you risk travel to Havasu

Summer heat Yes, 110 degrees plus in the day, some times it cools at night. Winters are great. the big problems are the good-o-boys running the city. need a permit? they do eveything they can to NOT provide it, Well maybe a bribe will help. The schools are over funded, But the monies seem to be spent for everything, except the kids, well if your non-english speaking your kids get alot of money poured in to them. I have lived here 8 years full time and came as a tourist from the 60's. It was a fine place, hot, until the drunks like the past mayor and state representives, and the good-o-boys took over.
Good Luck

Havasu is a cesspool of corruption. They have a Judge on the bench that has been censured by the state for being one sided in trials and yet the council does not remove him because the side he is on is revenue. You are guilty upon accusation by the police (who are his former employees when he was the police captain only a few years ago) the man is said to be a drunk, has been sued for hundeds of thousands for going back on business deals. Corrupt.

our family has been here for about a year (from the east coast). We like the school and area. We will retire here.
-the city is very young and going through some growing pains but in the right direction.
-posts are correct, you should have a job before moving. Not much here other than city jobs, marine jobs or hotels. Local hospital appears to be always looking for nurses/doctors.
-visit during the heat july or august. For us, the heat beats the snow, huricanes and flooding.
1-www.greatschools.net -we are happy w/elementary
2-after school programs very affordable
3-house-$400,00 with small pool (I would strongly recommend pool)
4-food-we pay at least 20% more here
5-water/sewer/trash-$100 per month
6-electric-$2800 per year
7-phone/cable/internet-$110 per month
8-car insurance is comparable
9-www.city-data.com -helpful info
Hope this helps because I know how hard it is finding hard numbers when looking to move.

Well I am sure you will like the winter weather better than Michigan. The town however is really suffering right now. Good side, you can probably get a house pretty cheap, schools aren't that bad, my sister graduated from that high school and went on to bigger and brighter things no problem. Lake is beautiful, lots of fun things to do around there.
Down side, no work right now, people can't pay there bills, Marine market is really struggling (my friend has been in the business for 30 years there), snowbirds everywhere are enough to drive you nuts. The fun things to do there cost $$$$$ dirtbikes, boats, gas for boats, casinos etc... We just moved back to Seattle from Lake Havasu we had been there 7 years. We had to rent all of our properties and sell our business just to get the hell out of there before it was too late and we lost everything. We will be back someday when we are the annoying snowbirds, and don't have to worry about trying to make a living. Good luck

There is more than "one guy" and I am a women. There is an actual committee to rid Havasu of the corrupt police, political types and reprimanded Judges. You may try to minimize the fact that Havasu has a many in government that need to go but the Arizona Supreme Court DID issue it's one and ONLY reprimand to Lake Havasu City Magistrate Clyde Andress. That is public record that you are welcome to view. Havasu DID pass an unconstitional ordinance where a cop can arrest anyone for saying the wrong words (and not "Fire" in a theatre). The state and feds have investigations going on into the behavior of several police officers. A former Mayors "connection" was a police Lt. A police chief and the Dep. Police Chief were recently fired for corruption. Try and deny the facts if you want.

a little due dilligence may have been a good idea. It's obvious Havasu is a small town and you probably need more than two years to get a foothold in the community. You're right, it's not Orange County (thank goodness) but I think you are being a bit dramatic regarding the schools and drug problem. Have a safe trip back to CA.

The drug problem in Havasu is astounding. Even the Current Sheriff calls the area between the three major Mohave city's the "meth triangle" of the west. The problems in Havasu are many, but the real problem is the city governments support of a corrupt police and Judicial system.

MC Judicial Watch, man something must have happened. It takes two to tango. Obviously the police just didn't pick you out for arrest. Seems you are a bit bent on railing havasu.

Actually I post about all bad cops, Judges and lawyers as I find them. I also post about Judge Taylor in Kingman. Not arrested, I am just interested in seeing Justice do what its suppossed to. But I was not reprimanded by the Supreme Court of AZ ethics committee (the ONLY ONE) last year, that honor goes to LHC Magistrate Clyde Andress.

well when the residents of havasu feel city council is way out of line, we will vote them out. Until then keep screaming from the sidelines.

A member has recently spoken to Becky, the editor of the paper. She asked if we would like a news story done. We have discussed this and are getting thing prepared for the news story by gathering information of the two judges so far identified as lacking the ethics to continue on the bench, plus we are getting a dedicated line. Once we get official chapter status from Judicial Watch (already in talks) we will do the story. A recall is possible but hardly what anyone is after. I personally feel that once the news story is done enough outrage will be generated to fire Andress and Taylor would not be elected.

Lake Havasu has its good and bad points like every other town or city in the United States. I left for 3 years but came back. I missed it.

Where you live is what you make of it. Havasu has drugs, has extreme heat in the summer, traffic, but the people are the friendliest in the nation.
