This was a terrible loss. This restaurant was a unique venue for good food, free big band music and lots of other entertainment.

I'm told by witnesses that the fire departments did little more than let this place burn down. Yet I'm also told that recently the city did everything possible, including using helicopters to put out a brush fire in a section of the dunes just a mile north of this place, where the richer folks live!

In the eyes of the fire department the Shark House may have just been another old wooden structure that was due to come down, but to the residents and fans of this place it was a hell of a lot more. This kind of a place is really hard to replace

I'm not sure they had every available resource though either like in the one a mile North of the Shark House. The Shark House burned down during the night and was not in a lot of danger of spreading, the one a mile North was a brush fire very much in danger of spreading to a residence and did a fair amount of damage and it took place during the afternoon when the fire department would have had a lot more resources available (for instance the helicopter with the water bucket). In defense of the fire department, there wasn't a whole lot that could be done to save the Shark House.

We are terribly saddened by the loss of the Shark House restaurant. My wife and I worked at the Shark House back in the late 90's when it changed hands to the McGonigles and we have so many fond memories of our years working for this wonderful family in their first class restaurant. We both send our best wishes to all who lost their jobs in this tragedy and hope that this landmark establishment can rise from the ashes to return to their former stature along the Flagler coast
