Dear Citizen,
I am compelled to publish this to provide vital information I believe every citizen should know about in order to make an informed decision about who we choose as our next Sheriff. I am deeply disturbed by Sheriff’s Seagraves’ old fashion politics of half truths. After personally looking into his political material I’ve discovered that it is very misleading and does not tell the whole story.

He states that he has reduced crime by 5%. False
Fact Florida Uniform Crime Report (Available online) shows that last year crime in Nassau County declined by 4.7%. Over the 3 years he has been in office the crime rate has increased 22.8%.
Fact In the 5 years preceding his election crime went down over 5%.

He states that he has worked to recruit, train and retain the best officers. False
Fact Since he has taken office over 120 employees have left his agency, the majority of which has been because of the working environment he has created. That is a 44% turnover of personnel and that includes after adding the animal control staff. If you watch his interview on www.mynassausun.com you will watch him state that the exact numbers were not available. It’s amazing that the figures presented here were from a public records request form the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
Fact 50 of those have been certified officers. 20 law enforcement and 30 correctional staff. This has created an enormous cost to our community in hiring, training and the severe loss of experienced personnel.
Fact Many officers have left our Sheriff’s Office because it is one of the only departments that do not have a step pay plan for raises based on how long you have worked. Fernandina Beach Police Department has one. Most officers make the same pay as new officers, even though they may have worked 5 or 6 years prior to the new employee. There is also no testing for advancement. You only advance if you are in his favor (Another classic example of cheap politics). He has also ended a college tuition re-imbursement program put in place by the prior administration.
Fact The accepted standard for training new officers is 14 weeks (As his own General Orders requires). Recently 2 officers were released from training on their own with less than 4 weeks training. This is a readymade law suit that will come out of your tax paying pocket.
Fact Nassau County is divided into 10 patrol zones. His budget is for 9 officers per patrol shift on duty 24 hours a day. Currently on average there are only 6 officers working per shift covering those 10 zones. On numerous occasions recently there were only 5 officers working.
Fact On average there is only 4 dispatchers on duty working 12 hour shifts at any given time and most are required to work mandatory overtime (ADDED COST TO TAX PAYER) to work 4 Nassau County Sheriff’s Office channels, 2 Fire/Rescue channels and multiple 911 telephone lines.
Fact The staff at the Nassau County Detention Facility is so severely under staffed that officers are required to sign up for being “on call” to be called in for overtime for shortages. Recently with an inmate population over 250 prisoners there were only 4 officers and 1 supervisor on duty for 12 hours. Only 2 of the officers were certified (Have completed their training as required by the State of Florida).

Additional Decisions

Fact He recently suspended a 25 year veteran officer for driving his personal vehicle to work and not his issued patrol vehicle. The employee’s vehicle is only used to drive to and from work. It did happen to have another candidate’s logo on the vehicle. On the same day one of his Directors, Director Michael Sutton, had driven his personal vehicle to work in uniform and not his department issued vehicle. Sutton’s vehicle was pulling a trailer with political signs for the current Sheriff. Amazingly enough Director Sutton has not been suspended.
Fact Former employees have gone to the Sheriff and complained that the cleaning products that the Sheriff’s Office had been purchasing have been and continue costing an enormous amount of money more than it should. A study by the employee showed that the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office was paying as much for one can of cleaning product as most companies charge for a case of the same cleaner. The employee showed that approximately $35000.00 could be saved annually. The employee was told not to worry about it and leave it alone. The name of the company is Quality Chemical Company and is operated from the residence of its owner. By the way if you go to the Supervisor of Elections Office website, www.votenassau.com , you can check the Sheriff’s financial contributions and see that on April 25, 2008 that company made a generous contribution of $500.00. There is no bidding as with most government agencies (To ensure public moneys are spent wisely) and it appears that purchases are based on political contributions. You can also see in the same contribution list that on June 19, 2008 the business Copyfax also made a generous donation of $500.00. In case you were wondering, they do provide all of the copying services for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

The sadness of this situation is that most citizens of Nassau County are unaware of what goes on behind the public service announcements and well crafted official press releases. Many of the officers and staff that have remained have done so because of a dedication to their community and the fear of speaking out for fear of suffering the same fate as the prior described employee. The Sheriff has rules in place that prevent employee from speaking with the press and are singled out for frivolous “violations” when most of his command staff have done much worse. Regardless of who you choose to correct this power gone mad problem, please vote to end the problems that currently exist. I strongly urge you to support one of the challenging candidates and remove Sheriff Tommy Seagraves from office.

He states that he has worked to ensure maximum safety for minimum dollars. False
Fact Lost an approximately $120,000.00 federal drug grant that had been obtained by the previous Sheriff.
Fact Has taken money budgeted for officers on the street (As stated before – not filled) and has paid for public service announcements, that by the way have only appeared in his election year.
Fact He was provided with the ability to train all certified personnel monthly training through the Florida Community College of Jacksonville approximately 1 ½ years ago with online computer training, but has declined. Although this could be done on duty during non-peak work hours, he has continued to have all certified police and correction officers come in on one of their days off each month and continue to pay 4 hours of training pay needlessly. Note: That would be approximately 4 hours times over 100 officers. Do the math!
Fact After taking over Animal Control that department’s budget was increased from approximately $500,000.00 to approximately $900,000.00. After he did this he hired an Animal Control Director and has provided him with an issued marked Nassau County Sheriff’s Office vehicle that for the last 3 months the director continues to drive back and forth daily from his home in Gainesville, FL. to Nassau County and back. This is an approximately 180 mile trip daily multiplied by the current cost of gas.

He states that he has worked to educate our children against the dangers of drugs and alcohol. True
Fact These are not new programs that he has initiated and are only a continuance of programs in place prior to his taking office.
Fact These programs are required to be paid for if an agency is receiving federal grant money. OOPS!!! Already lost pre-existing grant.
Fact Has recently hired two full time grant writing positions and pays for them out of his budget, even though most all federal grants allow you to pay for those positions with grant money. That would be if you had a grant.

He states that he would make sure our seniors are safe in our community. False
Fact With a 22.8% increase in crime, how can you claim that you are making sure our seniors are safe?
Fact Sheriff’s have had officers checking on elderly citizens for the past 2 administrations covering the last 20 years prior to him taking office.
He states that he would work to create a property check program. False
Fact He cannot “create” something that has been on-going for the approximately 30 years prior to him taking office.
Fact How can a patrol staff so severely under staffed that they can barely keep up with calls slow down to effectively provide a property check system?
He states that he will ensure that when you call the Sheriff’s Office, you will speak to a real person. True
Fact The same recorded system is occasionally used when administrative staffing levels do not provide someone to answer the phones.

When one looks at the FBI crime statistics and the claim (which I believe to be credible)that Tommy Seagraves is dishonest about crime statistics, consider that the 28 reports I made about a man stalking and harassing me "disappeared" from the sheriff's office and the sheriff stated that they never existed in the first place. The detective investigating testified under oath before Judge Davis that the sheriff had lied, and other officers testified that they had made the reports, despite the sheriff's insistence that I "imagined" everything.

The sheriff then told me that Judge Burgess lied about preparing an arrest warrant for the man when the man finally tried to come into my bedroom late one night. I have known Granville "Doc" Burgess for decades and believe he would never lie. The warrant was signed by Judge Foster, and it existed, despite the sheriff's insistence that it did not exist.

Tommy Seagraves should not be elected. Please look at the sworn testimony by several officers who provided proof, in some cases, of written documents to back up their testimony. To this day, Sheriff Seagraves refuses to apologize for lying about the record removal; refuses to apologize for stating (in his words) that I was promiscuous; and refuses to apologize for lying about the warrant.

Sheriff Seagraves can continue to say what he wants about me, but how does he explain away the sworn testimony of several officers saying that I am telling the truth? I wasn't a suspect; I was a victim. How do we know he hasn't "disppeared" other evidence and police reports? How do we know he hasn't lied about other cases? The problem is - we don't. But I feel that the women who made statements under oath in the sex-for-bail case at the Nassau County Jail a few years back were telling the truth. I feel that as citizens we should demand the case be re-opened.

Tommy Seagraves has made a mockery out of the justice system here. When one of his deputies recently refused to answer a subpoena, nothing (to date) happened to her. She simply testified that the sheriff's office had given a letter stating that she was excused, and the letter was presented in court. A sheriff (or any other law officer) cannot excuse testimony; only the judge can. And Judge Davis, a very honest judge in my opinion, stated unequivocally that he never excused the officer. No one at the sheriff's office, despite my complaints, has volunteered authorship of the letter ostensibly excusing this detective. The detective told me she was ordered to stop an investigation (mine) and the judge's clerk testified under oath that she had been told by the detective that the detective would ask for a favor, to have the letter written.

There is no credibility in the Nassau County justice system any longer. I believe that defense attorneys should open up every case in which their clients claimed that this detective or any officer (including Tommy Seagraves) destroyed evidence or lied under oath.

Yes, I know. We suffered from Tommy Seagraves, too. He is a bully and our family has never understood how he violates constitutional rights with such ease and arrogance. But he does, and he has gotten away with it, and no one in law enforcement seems to care. Then again, this is the county where the undersheriff was sent to prison by the FBI for his role in a drug dealing operation, and, upon his release from federal prison some six years later, was hired back by Nassau County. So much for accountability in the sheriff's office and the county.

This PSA was done for the benefit of Egans Creek Greenway along with all wetland areas in Nassau County. By the way WE wrote the PSA script and no changes were made. However, the City of Fernandina Beach refused to air the TV version of this entire clip shown here (not just a PSA) http://www.eganscreekgreenway.com as they stated that it was politically motivated and they would not air it until after the elections....yet they did request us to make one with the Fernandina Beach Police Chief. Whay is it that Mon-Fri from 8am to 5pm you see his fat ass with 4-5 uniformed officers running around town like he owns it but after hours and on weekends you never see him anywhere at all, like eating with his family or shopping etc..... Is it because Liz (His Wife) cant protect him because of his enemies or is he scared that Julie (His Girlfriend)will see him with his wife and cut him off from the late late night paper route affairs? Ok all you non believers here is the real information on Tommy Seagraves, He was arrested on 7/13/1982 by Deputy Sam Haywood for carry a concealed weapon FS 790.1(1) and he plead guilty on 8/2/1982 case # 8208997.

So there you go he is a felon, so go cry in your beer and keep on kissing his backside and,if you vote for him and, put him back in you desire what you get and, we get it too, for 4 more years.

22 year old father forced by 2 Nassau County Deputies to release his daughter back to the mother, whom has been proven unfit to take care of two children she already has custody of! Mother drove from Callahan to Fernandina to meet the father because she had no formula, diapers or clothes for the infant! Father takes child that was NOT in a car seat into the residence to change the diaper that appeared to have not been changed in days while Nassau County Deputy's show up due to witnesses watching mother attempt to hit the father almost knocking the infant out his hands! Mother leaves prior to the arrival of the deputy's and waited at the store located across the street from the residence! Deputy's get 3 sworn statements on the incident and advise the father that he does not have to give the child up because it was a civil matter, and they were going across the street to arrest the mother for domestic battery! after leaving and speaking to the mother, 2 of the 5 deputy's return to advise the father that now he does have to give the child up and she is not going to be arrested but a further investigation may land her in jail! After trying to make the officers understand the danger the baby was being put in they refused to listen and allowed the mother to come back and get the child AFTER she told the officers that she had no way to feed the baby! I as a witness began asking that in the best interest of the baby and in that law enforcement was suppose to make sure the child was taken care of why would they allow that? They kept saying " Today the baby is going back with the mother and if something happens to it then children and family services can deal with it" I spoke my mind by saying that this only happens in Nassau County where the Sheriff and the officers are crooked when the Nassau County Sgt. got in my face and said " I dont care about Nassau County and I will take this uniform off and settle this man to man" What the hell kind of shit has Tommy taught these guys...After the Sgt receiving a call in reference to a friend asking him about festivities at the ball park he was no longer interested in talking to us....Its time for a change!!!! Nassau we must put someone else in office to get this kind of corruption out of this county....

His feet are hog tied ...Officer opens the door and tells him to sit in the middle of seat... guy tells officer he is in the back of the police car.. Officer opens door back up and Shoots his Taser at him hits him in the shoulder.. let me just say i don't condone drug use i deal with it because i have a son that is addicted to meth. he was attacked by 4 guys with bats he had no weopon he ran from these for guys we called the NCSO and filed a police report. his back glass and passenger side window was Knocked out with these bats in the process of getting away from these four guys he spun up the yard. He told the Nassau County deputy that he spun up the yard to get away from the 4 guys. exactly 11 days later the Nassau county deputies came and arrested my son for Criminal Mischief... Spinning up the Yard .. Nothing had been done to the 4 guys with the bats. my son is still in jail. i have never and will not bail him. on this past Friday a Black man was beaten in Callahan ...Guess who was involved ... you guessed the guys that attacked my son. well Now Nassau County Sherriffs Office Finally took out warrants not because of what they did to my sons truck.,. but because they beat the Black Man. THe Black Man should have Never Been Beat by these guys had the Nassau County Sherriffs office took out warrants for them. So the Black Man Got his ass beat because the Nassau sherriffs office is Ignorant and Profiled my Son. My son is no angel. But right is right and wrong is wrong. I went and Talked to the Nassau COunty Deputies this week and Guess what.... Charges Against my son Were Dropped.. Imagine that... Had i not showed my Ass Charges would be still on him for the spinning up the yard.. I was not pleasant when you Piss off MaMa... You have your hands full.Please Vote for and Elect Jim Coe!!!!!!!!
