Yea and 1.2million in uncollected property taxes out there.. makes no sense

Seems like if we truly cared about our town and success we would pay our property taxes and do our part.

How about firing some of the many people in the jail that do nothing but sit around and get a check. There are some who are given jobs to do and have no idea how to do the job.

As for the Yarborough guy on WALB, he needs to get his family to pay their taxes personally and Y&W Sportswear. Sweep around your own door before you start worrying about getting the services the real taxpayers pay for!!!!!!!!!!

List them all. Its public record. I pay mine, they should theirs. I would be willing to wager that most of the ones that have not paid, are the so called ones with money.
Its getting deep

BEN HILL COUNTY, GA -
Ben Hill County employees such as Sheriff Deputies and emergency medical responders will be temporarily laid off to help the county's struggling revenue pull.

"We've been looking at declining revenues (and unpaid taxes) and increasing costs over the last five years. We've also been looking at about $15 million loss in the overall tax digest," said County Manager Frank Feild.

Wednesday night, county commissioners voted to raise the millage rate by 1 mill and lay off county employees for three weeks.(hope everyone has protection and a ride to the hospital)

Feild says by laying off employees instead of using furlough days, employees will still be paid their regular pay.(unemployment does not pay regular pay sorry Frank you lied)

"The layoff basically means that the Department of Labor will pay for the salaries during the time these folks are laid off. So the employees themselves would not be losing like they would if it was a furlough," said Feild.

"Public safety should not be sacrificed in an effort to save money," said Ben Hill County resident Jarrett Yarbrough.

Although County Manager Feild promises residents won't see a difference in services once employees are laid off, Yarbrough isn't buying it.( If they laid of who will be doing it Frank Feilds LOL)

"That concerns me somewhat. It concerns me that we'll have appropriate services in times of need," said Yarbrough.

Feild stresses this measure has to be taken in order to keep the county running.(SO WHERE DID ALL THE MONEY GO)

"We don't considerate drastic. We considerate it as something that has to be done right now to make the necessary adjustments in our finances," said Feild.(O its not drastic that your shoving the employees under the bus to save your paycheck)

Yarbrough says public safety, in any fashion, should not be disturbed.

"I believe firmly that we need officers out there on the streets patrolling. There's always a need for that. So I would not want the public safety department in any way, shape or form to suffer," said Yarbrough.

He'll have to wait and what the future holds.

Feild says he is looking into other costs cutting measures so layoffs like this won't happen agai

With this much tax out there and a city in trouble, why arent we beating on doors? Why are we doing work at the airport? Why are we constantly upgrading downtown? Enough is enough lets change this town.

Seems to me that if we will see no difference in services with these layoffs that we have too many county employees to start with!

You will see a big difference if this goes through, everyone should attend the county commission meeting and see what actually goes on

So the mighty Sheriff thinks some part time employees positions being stopped will turn his budget around? And to let a dumbass like John Bishop be his spokesman, John would love to see the County fail to help him look better for all the money his Cash 3 Commission pissed away.

Select the tax year, select UNPAID, and for last name enter the letter A. It will pull up all tax bills for the letter A. Then you can change it to B and view the last names/businesses with B.

It's very frustrating to see how many tax bills are unpaid -- by some of the "big wheels" in Fitzgerald. It's even more disturbing to see that some folks didn't pay their taxes for 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011.
