Why are they allowed to ride on roads? Seems very unsafe being half of the drivers are children. What's your opinion on this?

4wheelers too. There have been children killed in our community riding in the road. Yet parents still allow it, where are your parenting morals? Do you not know that you will have to live with the very preventable death of your child? Wake up!

i drive my golf cart all the time to bowens grocery, flash foods, fosters and more. if i see a vehicle coming behind me, i pull on the side of the road and let it pass (if i can). i do understand that some people are idiots and drive them recklessly, but not all of us. the law should absolutely do something about the reckless ones. due to gas prices, one day soon, i believe many more people will be driving golf carts.

Wow! you have noticed. Please add Walker Ave, Lakeview, Lincoln and Azalia. Kids driving, adults driving, babies in laps, children and dogs hanging off the sides and backs, no lights, no turn signals, sudden stops. Totally unaware of their surroundings. It would be different if they were following the rules of the road.
This is a tragedy waiting to happen.

I agree and sadly it will probably take something like that to happen for something to be done.

Mostly people who drive their golf carts on the road ARE in fact safe drivers. It's the crazy, over protective soccer moms screaming out their drivers window at them that are unsafe. Maybe if people would focus more on their own driving no accidents would happen.

I am very concerned about this problem. It will not be cute when some unsuspecting driver hits and kills people on one of these carts. I have had them dart in front of me from 129hwy to braddy's. Surely there is a law against this. There is no protection for children on these things. The adults that drive should have better sense. The next time you let a child drive one of these think about what an SUV or Semi truck could do to their poor little bodies if they hit one of these things.
Ok then

I got behind one on Roanoke...driving right down the middle of the lane pretty as you please...with several cars backed up behind them. Didn't bother them at all, drove all the way up to Enmark, pumped their gas, and carried on. Don't mind them being on the road; understand cheaper on gas and trying to save money, but the least they could do is pull over and let people pass! Not sure what the laws are regarding their use but would like to see some safety measures put in place!

My golf cart goes 30mph and I drive all over town. 10.00 in gas lasts me 2 weeks. If u don't like it, I suggest you move to another town. Fitzgerald is golf cart friendly. Im bout to start driving mine to work. It has tailights, blinkers, headlights, etc. I'm sorry if you think golf carts get in the way but this is new millenium.

It is not able getting in the way. Not about saving dollars, only about saving lives. If you really want to save money, walk or get a bicycle. It is able keeping people out of the funeral home or hospital. If they are going to be allowed in our city signs should be posted saying golf carts allowed. drivers can know that they are everywhere and drive accordingly.

I'm wondering how they are legal? You have to have insurance and registration to operate a motor vehicle. You can't get insurance and registration on an off road vehicle. So please tell us why they are everywhere on the roads. There's several law enforcement officers on this site, maybe they will shed some light.

I have insurance on mine. And if I wanted to ride a bicycle, I would. But thank God, I WORK unlike half of the people who post on Topix all day long, and I can afford to buy a golf cart. It's not against the law, it's much cheaper gas prices, I drive 30mph is a 35mph speed zone so I'm driving safely. If you don't like it, sorry bout your luck. I don't care to look at all the people running up and down the roads, or the bicycles in the damn way when I'm trying to ride my golf cart but I don't complain a bit.

I am sorry but I have to state that golf carts are a nuisance on the roads. Furthermore, I have seen children driving these carts that could barely see over the steering wheel not to mention no adults were on board. I have also seen children riding on top of these carts, being pulled by these carts on bikes, skateboards, and wagons. It is illegal to have golfcarts n public roads with alot of traffic- So this issue needs to be addressed- I know we live in a small community but this is very dangerous- I have also seen Adults with babies in their laps, toddlers on the back rear part with no seat belt- These are all serious violations- Golfcarts need to be only for the courses or for designated trails not on public roads.

Jason, do you have a motor vehicle registration? If not, it's not legal to drive on public roads.

Maybe you are confused about the law. Our city is "Golf Cart Friendly". I have asked both the local police dept and sheriff's dept and golf carts a free to ride in our community. I guess that would explain why you see so many around town. I don't agree that kids should be driving them but adults can ride them where they please. No insurance, registration or anything required. It's absolutely no different than people jogging, riding bicycles, etc. ZERO DIFFERENCE!!! Again, if you don't like it... it's because your Old, plenty of money for gas, or because you don't have a golf cart. I enjoy driving mine everyday. Sorry if you don't like it. But my family enjoys it and we'll do it til they make a law banning it.
