It is high time that Wong be Gone! She is the worst Mayor this city has seen ever. I am happy that these officers are getting their ranks back but who demoted them in the first place. The Mayor should not be involved at all in Police or Fire Departments. Or turning off street lights.

Congrats to the officers for not only getting their ranks back but also for standing up to this comical mayor. After reading this article i have come to the conclusion that she is definatly a joke and needs to be gone. If you don't understand what happend here it's pretty simple. She demoted these officers and MADE them file a complaint. When the time came to stand before the civil service commision, she decided she has saved enough money and gave them their ranks back. She probably did this to save face and not be thrown to the wolves of the commision. In my eyes she decieved the public , the employees and the civil service process. Any mayor playing with the livlyhoods of any city employee should be held accountable because this is not only unproffesional but also immature. Lastly , the people of Fitchburg recently voted her back in and must live and die with the decision you have made at the polls. This is ludicrist and is not going to get any better until this mayor gets knocked down a peg or 2 and you get rid of that so called Chief that dosn't stick up for his officers and only sticks , we'll you finish the sentence you know where i'm going with this one.

The only way I can see the FPD making a Deputy Chief position, was to reinstate all demoted officers to their former ranks. Without doing this, the city is in violation of Civil Service law. I hope these other officers filed appeals with the Civil Service Commission. After reading the reason the Mayor and Chief reinstated these other officers is directly related to the up coming hearing at the Civil Service Commission on Monday. Things are really starting to smell. Who's lying now?

Just because you are friends with these guys, that doesn't make the mayor wrong.

She inherited a hugh mess left by Mylott and his crew. She has done everything economically possible to fix this financial mess.

What she did makes sense to me. Now she just needs to finish house cleaning so the community can trust and respect the PD. Thin Blue Line seems to be getting thinner .....

Unbelievable! This story mentions that the base pay for a Captain is just under $72,000.00 per year and the base pay for a Lieutenant is $60,000.00. However, last May the Sentinel & Enterprise published the list of the top 100 highest paid City of Fitchburg employees for 2008 and we can see that as a Captain, Kearns made $109,100.96 in a year, and as Lieutenant Boz made $104,485.95 in a year!

So, don't be fooled Folks. That $72,000.00 base pay actually gets ramped up to over $109,000.00 per year and that $60,000.00 base pay gets ramped up to over $104,000.00 per year, because of all the stipends and the excessive overtime that we are forced to pay our greedy police department employees. And, the excessive overtime is necessary because we need coverage for the grossly excessive amount of paid days off that they all receive each year!

Boy, that base pay is sure a far cry from the actual pay, isn't it Folks! No wonder I get on here and rant and rave about our pampered policemen!

And, let's not loose sight of the fact that as they are drastically increasing their base pay, they are also banking insane amounts of unpaid vacation times on the books; to be cashed out at retirement time. We all just got a good look into this very thing when we all found out that Tasca was sitting on top of 2000 hours (almost one full year!) of unpaid vacation time.

What a life; eh Folks!

the policy of take and give. You first take away till the pressure to respond to the take away, gets to a point of discussion because of the complaints, then you give a little back. Especially,if your new legal council says so. In the end, we do not move forward just end up where we were in the first place. This is Mayor Wong's political shell game she plays the the game well. We would of rather seen the savings of the firing of Capt Tasca to be used to increase the police force in numbers. When is the reestablishment of the beat officers to be a realty and not a long someday promise that has not materialized since the Mayor and Captains statements in the Day street meeting that funds were received for such purposes back last June? What real Public safety policies will be past that actually will deal DIRECTLY to CRIME PREVENTION?? Enough take and give. One step foward, two steps back, then one step forward again! What policies will be established to promote public safety to attract the badly needed businesses and people to our downtown? No tax incentives or grants will change how people feel about doing business, until they feel SAFE to do so!

This is only a preview of what will happen just before the Tasca hearing at Civil Service. The Mayor, Chief and Ciota will cut a deal with Tasca so the public will never know who was lying. Talk about back room deals. lies, lies and more lies...

The Mayor needs to come clean! The sentinel has the letter that the Mayor began this investigation. It included a widespread set of concerns to be investigated. The sentinel needs to print this letter.

Now the Mayor will have to answer to the citizens of Fitchburg! We demand an answer as to WHY there are only four cruisers on duty on Friday and Saturday! Why are all the detectives contracted to work the first shift only M-F.

Why is Internal Affairs non existent??? I filed a comp[laint and the then acting chief Kearns stone walled the investigation! Explain Why??/ What happened to the $40,000 stolen from the treasuryy?? Kearns was suppose to file a final report, where is it??

Tasca stated that everyone in the administration took money this way for years! There should be an investigation concerning this statement alone!

The Mayor seems to have taken HALF MEASURES! The Mayor seems to ignore the citizens of Fitchburg too much!

I agree with you to a point. The Mayor made the decision on cutting off the lights but the tax payers in Fitchburg sacrificed and endured a dark city!

She did inherit but it is time to fix the problems that have kept Fitchburg from being productive! The FPD is a well known problem! The Murders are going unsolved! Why didn't they finger print the door and the rail where Sammy was murdered? His wife pointed out the spots where the murderors touched! It seems like depending on who you are that gets murdered the better the investigation! Wherever anyone stands on this issue; we are all put at risk as the murderors are running free!

All the detectives are contracted to work M-F, 8-4. The entire department is in shambles! It is at the point where I feel like I have to take each officer by the Fudging hand up to the drug deals happening on Main st and elm st.

Where are all the police during the day?? The Mayor has been in office now for three years! It is on her plate now!

please stop the whining about mylott this is her second term; are you kidding me! you must have voted for coakley too because everyone can't stop living in the past with bush. i didn't vote for her the first time or the second time; i felt then and still do that at the age she was she was not competent to be running a city; and second her generation is all about themselves, me, me and me. they feel we all owe them something. she is acting like a spoiled brat and it is going to be her way; gosh i can hear her temper tantrum from here.

In order to get any information from the Mayor, this paper needs to file a legal request under the freedom of information act!
Fitchburg deals with this law enforcement problem right now! We want answers! I have written the Mayor. No one has answered why there are only four cruisers on Friday and Saturday nights? Enough is Enough!!
The residents of Fitchburg have been going without! Everyone is complaining about the FPD! The business owners are angry over non responses and arrogant disrespectful police!

Boston is a much bigger city and they can operate better than this city? Why doesn't the FPD have civility training?? Is it a bad QUESTION?? What is wrong with the request of CIVILITY from the Police department?????????Enough!

Kevin before you start ranting and raving about unsolved murders again and how they are investigated you might want to take a step back and check your facts. When a murder is committed in this state the STATE POLICE are the ones who investigate just so you know Kevin. I might be wrong but the only police departments in the Commonwealth that conduct their own homicide investigations are Boston, Springfield, and maybe Worcester. You know Kevin after listing to Darn I started to care about and get upset about what is going on in the FPD but then you come along and rant and rave and make no sense and it makes me start to not care. So could you please spare us your rant on how the FPD doesnít investigate murders when its not their responsibility, itís the STATE POLICE job to do that.

The FPD union, the FPD administration, and the Mayors of Fitchburg have been at odds for many years. Before there was Wong, and as far back as I can remember. It's a safe bet it will happen again in the future. Just stay tuned.

Big K,

Thanks for mentioning that after listening to me you started to care about, and get upset about what is going on in the FPD.

I try to use factual information whenever possible. The facts don't lie. Needless to say; most sane people get outraged when they are made aware of what the police are actually getting paid and what they receive for paid time off. And, these same outraged people get further outraged when they hear another story involving a greedy cop (or, more than one greedy cop) getting away with more than what they are rightfully entitled to get. As appears what happened in the case of Tasca. And, Tasca mentioned that others on the force are also doing.

I am here to make darn well sure that the Readers who care about such things get the full story and the honest story. I jumped into Topix Forum when I realized that any story involving crime was being exploited by the police and their unions to try to convince the Taxpayers that we need to throw more money at the cops because they are all risking their lives for us, each and every day that they are on the job.

I knew that we do not need to throw more money at our police departments, because most of this money goes towards fattening the wallets of our lawmen. Not much, if any of it, actually gets used for fighting crime. So, again, I feel that it is my civic duty to make the Taxpayers aware of the real deal; instead of just being feed the typical propaganda by the police and their powerful unions.

I will continue to stick around and I will continue to bring up facts and offer my opinion. My Bashers told me last summer that they were getting close to pulling the plug on me here on Topix Fitchburg Forum. Someone even mentioned lawsuits. But, I'm still here and I still speak the truth.

You are wrong! The state police and the Fitchburg police investigate the Murders! And yes I strongly feel that the State Police in this area are inept also. A lot of the Murders committed in this area are not properly investigated! Sgt. Fossa has spoken on murder investigations as well as others! It is a joint effort!
It is true that the State police investigate also; they do a POOR job! Once again it is who you are that is murdered! They found the woman last year off of rt.2 in lancaster. She was a prostitute it was mentioned. The blue tarp that was around the body was left there, it is still there!
Like I mentioned, no matter your feeling on whether or not a prostitute or a person with a record murder should be investigated; THE MURDEROR IS STILL AT LARGE AND IS A DANGER TO EVERYONE!!! Big K; you debate with me always. Don't let me decide for you whether or not you fight for legal law enforcement. I will always be a strong advocate!

If I was Mayor I would clearly state that an officer who conducts themselves alongside of the Oath that they swear to will be afforded all the tools they need as well as bonuses. But any officer acting out of line , abusing their power will be fired and the Union will be counter sued if they bring a frivalous lawsuit forward!

Myself or a family member will be running for Mayor this year! We will fight for all of Fitchburg; we will fight for what is right, we will lead the state by example! I would not hesitate to request for assistance of the FBI to investigate "long term corruption" within the police department. I will immediately implement an internal affairs that will not include foormer or present police department members!

The problem in politics is there is no guts to fight for the average person! Nobody needs the "police union" endorsement! We will fight for the elderly in this city! We will rid the city of gangs! In a city will all kinds of gang problems we do not have a gang unit!

I will bring many businesses into Fitchburg! I will make sure that Fitchburg residents are offered employement. As of present, there are multi millions in contracts given to different organizations and businesses. There has not been an effort to employ Fitchburg residents! There is no encouragement! There is no sense of community! I will change that all!

Mayor Wong has been in office now for her third year! I totally understand that this mess was the doing of previous Mayors and city councilmen! They ignore fixing anything! Recently the Mayor made a step at fixing the long endured problem of the inept FPD and it's "long gone morale"! Half measures avail NOTHING! Full speed ahead would be my moto! Respect and LISTEN to the citizens of Fitchburg!
