Questions about whether Mayor Lisa Wong followed the correct procedure when hiring former Tewksbury Police Chief Alfred Donovan to investigate the Police Department last fall arose during a City Council meeting Tuesday night. Full Story

Hmm lets see Iíll give you one reason why I havenít ran for office, I canít afford to take a pay cut. You see Darn, the Mayor makes roughly between 50 and 60 thousand a year (Iím not sure of the exact number) and Iím not about to leave the company I work for now (where I make a considerable amount more) to be the mayor of Fitchburg(for a lot less then I make now). Maybe if the mayorís salary was raised I would consider running, and Iím willing to bet other qualified candidates would be willing to run as well. But, until the Mayorís salary is raised Iíll wont be giving up my seat at the bar to run for office. Oh and Darn since you seem to have all the answers, how come you donít run for mayor? I mean after all you call out everyone else on Topic Forum for sitting here crying and not running for mayor, how come you havenít run after all you probably do the most crying on Topic Forum.(Well maybe not Kevin gives you a run for your money)
Fancy Clancy,

I like your comments. If you would be taking a pay cut, I can't blame you for not running for Mayor. If your numbers are correct; I would be taking a big hit myself, if I was elected Mayor.

But, besides that, I really have no beaf with Mayor Wong anyway. I am sure that she is doing better than I would be doing in that job. Let's face it; without enough money around to cover everything; people are going to be unhappy. She really is in a no win situation.

But, you and your crowd appear to be quite vocal about Mayor Wong. Even if the pay is not that high; can't you come up with one single candidate from your pool of Mayor Wong Bashers? How about a retired cop? He would be fat and happy anyway with his police retirement income; so the 50 or 60 G's would be less of a problem for him. Of course; it would have to be someone who can handle some stress. So, any cop currently out on permenant disability for stress related reasons shouldn't run!

I don't want to be Mayor; but I would love to head up a Civilian Review Board that keeps checks and balances on the Fitchburg PD. It would be a great stepping stone for me; on my way to heading up a Civilian Review Board that keeps checks and balances on all of Massachusett's Lawmen; State, City and Town. What to you think; Clancy ol' Boy; do you think I could cut the mustard?

Well Darn you seem to have struck out againÖ. First off I would not want a fat retired cop as mayor of Fitchburg, their time would be better spent at Jenny Craig. A retired police officer is no more qualified then the Pants Man was. You see Darn, Iím not saying police officers are dumb, they in fact are extremely intelligent, I mean after all the laws in Mass arenít easy to understand. And hey Iím sure the former mayor could fit you for one hell of a suit but that doesnít mean heís qualified to be mayor either.

Darn it shocks me that you donít know roughly how much the mayor of Fitchburg makes, but Iím willing to bet the janitor at the High School makes roughly as much as she does. Now maybe its time for you to stop ďgoing undercoverĒ at the local doughnut shop, just so you can ease drop while Fitchburg Finest enjoy a coffee and a doughnut, and start doing some research. A retired police officer (or any public employee for that matter) cannot retire, get elected as mayor (or work as a full time employee of another GovĎt agency), draw a pension, and get paid as a full time employee of another govít agency. Itís called double dipping and itís not allowed by state law. I figured someone as knowledgeable as yourself would know this. I mean hey, even if a retired police officer wanted to run for mayor he probably wonít be able to take the pay cut.

What I suggest is raising the mayors salary so that it is comparable to what other city department heads receive. That way more qualified candidates would be apt to run for Mayor. After all running the City is comparable to running a 90 million dollar a year company. You donít see the CEOís of those companyís making 50,000 a year. People are always saying that we need to raise the salaries of other department heads in order to attract qualified candidates, yet no one is willing to raise the salary of the mayor. Raising the Mayors salary would be a step in the right direction

As far as your suggestion about the civilian review board I think its an excellent idea. They can be just like the military tribunals the govít holds to prosecute terrorists. I know, we can hold the tribunal at Cogshall and you and Kevin can be the members of the panel who decides their fate. Then we can build a mini Guantanamo Bay in the park where the bad boys can be sentenced. So you and Kevin have work, you guys can both be the prison guards who baby sit the bad boys (although you will have to decide amongst yourselves who gets to be the warden).

As always Clancy

Clancy, you lovable Galoot, you have a talent for writing Topix Forum postings. You are a real charmer; ol' boy! And, I say that sincerly.

I HAVE heard of the problem of double dipping. And I don't mean the people who bite a piece out of a potato chip and then stick the same chip back into the dip; I am talking about State and Government workers. I know that there are laws about such things; but I do hear of these laws being ignored from time to time.

I wouldn't really want a retired cop for a Mayor anyway. We all know where his loyalties would lie; and it isn't with the Taxpayers! I suppose that a retired Pants Maker would be a little better than a retired cop; at least he would be better dressed!

I agree with you about the pay being too low for the Mayor. And, I like your analogy about comparing the Mayor to a CEO running a 90 million dollar a year company. It is a very good comparision.

I think that it makes very good sense to pay the Mayor more dough. But; clearly there is a real shortage of money floating around to do so. Therefore I propose that we step up to the issue of overpaid cops (and firefighters too) in order to fix things. We already know that 29 firefighters and 25 cops made between $76,801 and $112,015 in 2008. These seems excessive to me; especially as compared to the Mayor's pay.

I thought that I already told you that I DID take the test. And, as I predicted, I AM NOT a Narcisist. But, the test proved that I have so many outstanding qualities that I am considering becoming a Narcisist.

Is anyone out there in Readerdom a Narcisist? And, if so, would you care to share some of the pro's and con's of being a Narcisist with me? Or, does anyone out there have a Narcisist as a friend or a family member; who can shed a little light on the subject?

I suppose that if I DID decide to become a Narcisist; that I would be really, really good at it. After all; I am really, really good at everything else I put my mind to; so why should this be any different?

Yes, I WAS kidding; and yes, I WAS simply pulling your leg. I am confident in some of my abilities; but I do try to keep myself in check.

Being confident, while not being arrogant about it, is a desirable quality. I am not so sure that describes me; but I WOULD like to think so.

But, you were so hell bent on insisting that I MUST be a narcissist; that I started to give you the responses that I suspected would feed your argument.

I can be opinionated at times; but believe me; I do try to keep my ego in check. And, the people who know me and the people who meet me all appear to think that I am OK to deal with. I have some strong ideas about our Lawmen; but I MAY lay it on a little heavy every now and then just to create a debate.

We believe that the citizens of Fitchburg deserve better than what we have now; I was a proponnent of Mayor Wong but I must agree that she has taken half measures against the corrupt FPD.
If elected we will put all the corrupt cops on notice with pink slips and the corrupt law suit threatening union we will expose and counter sue them onto the bread line!
Enough is Enough! Stand up for your rights and join us as we will take over the office of all city councilors and mayor Wong!

It is time that we fight for all political positions inside Fitchburg. We will focus on ridding Fitchburg of the FPD. This organization has conducted themselves as corrupt individuals.
We will request that all prosecuters and judges to be removed from Fitchburg. We will put an immediate freeze on all OT and raises for the FPD and the firefighters. I respect the FFD but they need to contribute to this citys financial crisis!
We will take over the FPD and replace all corrupt cops with hard working 'LAW ABIDING" individuals whom seek out the job for the right reasons!
We will bring thousands of jobs to Fitchburg!! We will not fail the citizens of Fitchburg as are current politicians have for way too long!
We will request an investigation into JRs as it is obvious to the citizens of Fitchburg that this place is central headquarters to everything that is bad about Fitchburg!
We will register thousands of voters who we will encourage to participate in the election process! Enough is Enough!!
If you are tired of the "same old JRs crowd"; join us in registering to vote and bringing others into the process!!

So, it's ok to:

- Have an affair with a married person, no less a fellow employee
- Use City resources for a private business
- Punish people for bringing the issues up

I imagine the MA Ethics Commission will have a say in the matter, from what I heard, complaints were filed recently against at least 2 people in City Hall.

For your info she is trying to clean up the mess that the good old boys left behind. Too many from the same families help run this city and she can't plant money trees. It's not her fault. At least she has morals and is honest
