It is about time people work with the police to take our streets back.

What better way to let all these thugs now we have a handle on them and we are not afraid to speak out and point them out to officials.

Tim and Emily, you are exactly right. It is time for people to speak out and start turning these morons in when they witness something. Many years ago, my in-laws lived in what was a nice, family neighborhood, then was taken over by lowlife scumbag thugs. They formed a neighborhood watch and were able to drive most of the slime away. Most of them are cowards hoping to control people by fear. Once they know you are not afraid, they slither away.

That is nothing more than a scare tactic meant to intimidate people and those that follow through are just plain stupid because the penalty is worse.

I wonder how many times Police hung up on the tips before actually acting upon them?

There's been a lot of that going on lately, and having a dump of a police station being the reason for no-shows, and not caring about any crime, is a p1ss-poor excuse.
There ARE good cops on the force, don'tget me wrong, but one's I've usually came across either do nothing, or belittle anybody withing earshot of a crime scene.

It seems good to do that, HOWEVER, when I lived in the burg' up to last year, I saw many of those signs (some in the real crummy sections..) that really didn't mean a heck of lot.

Neighborhood watches are good in places like Ashby, Townsend, or Lunenburg, but in Fitchburg, where people don't last long in tenements, a neighborhood watch program doesn't really cut it.

What does is putting a person, or group of persons together (paid or volunteer via City Hall), to go after the absentee landlords, and the slumhouses they rent.

Also, putting people into the Licensing Commission who have half-a-brain." The one under Mylott didn't care about what businesses set up shop in Fitchburg. Rumors about the barber shop near Slattery's being a gang set up, are examples of the Licensing Commission being asleep at the switch. Do thorough background checks on who sets up shop in the City (After all, in some cases the Police Department does that with some tennants in the city...why not business?)

BOTTOM LINE: Marie, it takes a partnership. It's one thing to tell the neighborhoods to clean up their act, but it would help if the City comes to the table with something also. Teamwork...that's what it is all about.
