I think the idea of using Fitchburg as an example of
a down and out city is one more reason that she should be run out of town on a rail. And what is this glimmer of hope she's blabbing about. She hasn't let us know the glimmer. With the national economic downturn we should be set, huh. Ms. Wong is wrong again. This is what has been going on for 25 years...stressing the blight in Fitchburg with the surety that we will get more State money and the grants will keep coming in... That is what she and her cohort Dave Streb have been doing. When the 5th st. bridge was closed down for ten years I saw the need for the "planners" to make opening it up a priority, but they kept it closed so that this city would appear to have a huge need for relief. Fitchburg is the correct venue for social services as the city has been sucking at the tit of gov't money for as long as Streb has been here, Planning for this city. Relocate poor folks in favor of upping the mean wage of this city. I know, I sound like a crazy person ( "you may be right, I may be crazy...")But follow the money.

Are you putting the current state of the city squarely on Wong's shoulders?

First of all, Wong didn't write the article. She only answered questions posed by the USAToday folks who were looking for those answers. Secondly, Streb is hanging onto his job by a thread. Wong knows he isn't a planner and is attempting to get him to step up or step out. There are glimmers and it will take a lot longer for them all to start shining. There's a good 25 years of abuse to flip around in the midst of a country-wide, maybe world-wide crisis. Most of the crap ain't her fault. With belt tightening she saved $1.3 million already this year. That was certified by the DOR. Nothing to sneeze at. It will come in small accomplishments for a while, I'll bet, but it'll show up.

No, I'm not. I think that she is a very young woman who has contributed to the problems that now exist during her tenure as the non mayor. I think she has lofty goals and ambitions to which this city is just a stone to be stepped on on her meteoric ride to the top of the Democratic Party.

I also resent the attempts to shine light on a 1.3 mil "savings" while the library is still in a diminished capacity. Until the cops have enough personnel and equipment, til we feel confidant that the fire dept will have what they need to handle 2 fires at the same time(god forbid), Til the library is open, fully staffed and funded this will not be a good example of Fitchburg to show the world. All this really does is shine the spotlight on Lisa Wong and her "determination and drive" to lift this poor city out of hell, while the truth is that she cut essential services in favor of showing a gain to the free cash fund. That really makes HER sparkle for the camera's, but does it put more cops on the street, or essential Fire houses open or books in the hand of kids. She is too inexperienced and callous to be Mayor of this or any other city. Wait, she's inexperienced and callous... If she was a republican she would be the vice presidential pick.

Oh god, some times I just can't shut up.(I get sick of me too...Pompous windbag).

Sonny, it has to start somewhere. It took 25 years to get here. She didn't cause the problem. How often do you have to be told that? She appears callous because her head is down trying to work.

Evidently you never had to deal with her well before she became the mayor, clipped, tart, off putting. She is just not nice.
By the way, you can tell me all you want, I know she didn't cause all the problems in Fitchburg before she was a toddler, but she has done her part during her non-mayoral years, handled the people of this city like a bitter nun with a precocious student. Imperious, haughty, impatient, condescending . Other than that I love her. I understand, once again, that the pant measurer, did nearly irreparable damage to this city, And I am aware that tough decisions had to be made, but she has been making one boneheaded move after another, in my estimation. She has taken the state "recommendations" as gospel and used them to craft her budget cuts, not for this city but to impress the movers and shakers of Boston so she will be able to claw her way out of the Burg at the first multi-level promotion with the state. She does not seem sincere, nor does she posses the qualities that make a good leader...such as being able to draw respect and willing participation from the led. She just bullies and insults her way through the electorate. I WANT to believe in her devotion because if these measures are going to help the city to the extent that she believes , and I am completely delusional, I will be ecstatic and lead the parade in her honor.

Sonny - I just don't think that is true. Those close to her know she has no political ambitions. She ran only because she didn't see anyone around at the time who could fix Fitchburg. Her intentions were to settle down and raise a family here, but wanted it to be a safe and vibrant place to do it. She'd like to spend 6 years tops getting it back on track and go back to the private sector and re-start her life here in the burg as a private citzen. She needs some good PR. Climb on board and go help her with that. Go do something good with that sharp insight you have. This city needs all the help it can get. Slinging arrows won't fix it and there isn't anyone in the wings with a magic potion or silver bullet, so think creatively and pitch in. Don't be a coward behind a keyboard.

Cowards on the keyboard don't use their real name...Cowards on the keyboard use names like "you have it all backward".

She seems to be grabbing the spotlight every chance she gets for her own aggrandizement . You think it's good PR to have the mayor shining a national spotlight on the extreme difficulties Fitchburg is facing...does she think that some benefactor is going to come along and wave a magic wand after reading how down and out we are, and have been. No. So who does such publicity benefit... Ms Wong is a self serving publicity hound just like Dan Mylott was. I will not support her in anything until she settles with the police union, opens the Library and keeps the fire stations open. I don't see how anyone can argue with that. So far there has been nothing but slash and burn leadership, and plenty of opportunities to get her face in the paper, no matter what. I am aware of her story but it doesn't ring true. She ran without letting the unwitting citizens know HOW she would "fix the problems". Making us less safe and shutting down the jewel of Main st. through her unfair and brutal cuts. I haven't liked her personally since I met her and I think she should move along asap. I don't expect to change my opinion and certainly not act as a PR rep for her. Not gonna happen. She has treated the people of this city with arrogant dismissal and she continues to fight against those lifelong residents and derisively calls us "Fitchburg People" as if making the life we have built here is something to be looked upon as Obnoxious!

Sorry Sonny - the real point is it is going to take a while to fix the economic situation. Period. When she was running, the assumption was a $1 mill shortfall to make up. She knew with belt tightening and the restructuring at city hall, this could happen (and it did). However, when she took office and got the $5 mill surprise, this budget was the outcome until all the crap that caused the other conditions gets reversed. It's happening, but slowly and while other expenses rise. I'm not pro or con this mayor, but I'm willing to give her a chance. Jeez it isn't even a year. Go ask Tom what he would have done as see if he wants to run again. It's about time to announce, isn't it?? BTW, USAToday picked Fitchburg, not the other way round.
