"When this opportunity came up, we took advantage of it. Everybody else had the opportunity to do the same," Blaisdell said."

No, not everyone in the city had the same opportunity as Carstar.

Is $30,000 a large enough sum to hurt Fitchburg businesses?

The city needs to go with the best deal they can get. If there was enough business to support 8 companies here before then I am sure most will still find work. The city wasn't the only customer ya'll had right?

This is hysterical, a bunch of robber barons crying foul becuase the city (...and it's shrewd mayor) found another way to save some money. Bite the bullet grease jockeys, the pain is being distributed equally, look around you! As Reality Check so correctly pointed out, the City of Fitchburg was not the only customer you were putting the screws to before this decision, you'll still rake the remainder of your hook ups over the coals!

Another Lowell connection.
Money being directed to the police department, so look for a lot more towing to happen
Look for less access to your car if towed, another day of storage to help give the City it's "kickback"
and from their website:

1. What is CARSTAR?

CARSTAR is an international franchise of high quality collision repair facilities.

What happened to "Local First" thinking?

Whiner!$30K,$25K,$35K, what difference does it make? People scream to keep the number of officers on the street at the same level with no funds??! Real world economics meets Hillbilly mentality, the two are like oil and water, they don't mix!

Why is mayor, chief & new tower all from the Lowell area? Contract states all tow trucks must be registered in Fitchburg and pay tax to Fitchburg, not so with new tower they are registered in Lowell. Why is the new tower overcharging the customers to make up the money he needs to pay to the city. What liability does the city have, all companies have to have liability insurance by law.

Isn't it supicious that the winner of this bid reins from Lowell as the Police chief did. I will bet we will see a ten increase in towing also. Mrs. Mayor needs her money!!

Isn't it also odd that the mayor's family apparently owns restaurants in the lowell area? It's only a matter of time Mayor Wrong that this all catches up with you. And as far as the city kickback being used for the police department, we all know that is all smoke and mirrors.

Some of you people are ridiculous. She found a way to generate money for the city, reduce liability, and create a clear policy. And you still whine and complain. This is further proof that with some of you, it will never matter what she does, you will always complain about it.

First thing that Wong has done that makes any kind of logical sense. Bravo! About time.
Stop whining tow companies, you just hoped that it was you and it is not so now you are having a hissy fit. All of you rip people off anyways. That is why you get AAA so you do not get sodomized by all of you.

Once again government hurting the small guy who employ's most of the so called "Middle class" people who pay most of the taxes and then get screwed WAKE UP People No small businesses who by the way have been serving your city for years (this is a new company who took over a old company) small tow companies can't compete with the 2 big tow businesses in your town. 1 tow truck hang it up Goverment don't like Family bussiness I SAY DON"T HAVE YOUR CAR REPAIRED BY THEM you have the RIGHT to have your car repair where you want your car REPAIRED It's called "FREEDOM to choose". This is happening to all small businesses BIG GUY Taking OUT the SMALL GUY

The liability issue is a straw man. Couldn't the system remain the same, with individual companies conforming to whatever concerns (real or imagined) that Wong had? In any event, any money generated from the towing kickbacks (I mean, contract,) will just disappear into the general fund. It won't necessarily be spent on anything in particular.

Don’t the people of Fitchburg get it, this is a hidden tax is on the residence.

Now Carstar is over charging to REAP back the cost of towing. Police order tow is at a rate of $90.00. So it is a fixed rate, already complaints of overcharging have occurred by Carstar.

WONG had the chance to give single tow contract to all 8 tow companies at the same rate, she failed to do so, and this can only be an inside job. The bids were not open in public like it was proposed; they were secretly opened in the Police chief’s office Hmmmm….

Carstar do not have their tow trucks registered in Fitchburg as required by the contract…did the Chief forget to read the contract?

The ethics commission should be contacted immediately. Last I looked, Monopolies are illegal!

Bad move Wong……..opps I mean your buddy the chief who could care less about Fitchburg he is just passing by and getting more hours towards retirement.

There is no guarantee of the amount of money to be made or how it will be used.

If you are in an accident in Fitchburg or need a tow you have the right to request the tow company of your CHOICE. Tax payers of Fitchburg be prepared to be over charged!
