Over 100 NYC workers charged in disability scam

By Jennifer Peltz THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK A law enforcement official says more than 100 current and former city workers, including dozens of police officers and firefighters, are being charged with faking psychiatric problems in order to get federal disability benefits.

Arrests in the sweeping case began early Tuesday morning. An afternoon news conference is planned at Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.'s office. Arraignments are expected to begin Tuesday.

The official says the scam stretched back more than two decades, with the ex-officers and other workers claiming mental health problems so severe that they couldn't work at all.

The official wasn't authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Everyone on disability is scamming. These guys were just unfortunate that they actually got caught. They will never actually be convicted. How can the state possibly prove that someone DOSENT have PTSD. Its not like PTSD is a real condition. Its a made up BS condition to begin with.

The real problem here is that many of these scam artists (NYC cops and firefighters) weren't even at the site of the Twin Towers during the tragedy. But, they put in claims that they were, and as a result they had PTSD.

Gee wizz, cops lying after a national tragedy...nothing new. They did it after Hurrican Katrina as well...

As I have said on this forum many, many times; many in law enforcement are the biggest scam artists of them all. They appparently tell themselves that they deserve it because they have convinced themselves that they are risking their lives everyday....

I agree. I am sure there are some public safety members that applied for benefits that do not have PTSD but on the other hand I compare everything to someone who is on welfare.

They are taking away benefits and some pensions for the vets now. They are stopping unemployment benefits for people who HAVE worked and are looking for jobs.

BUT they still give out welfare to people who have never had a job and do not want to work !

So I would still rather have my taxes pay for those unemployment benefits for the people who have worked and for the veteran benefits than for the welfare recipients.

I'm with you insider. What does Lynch, Gomez, the dirt bag missing kids father, the scum bag abusive mom and her boyfriend and 98% of the PRs in Fitchburg have in common with these 100 public servants? I'll give you a hint it isn't that they once had a steady job.

Free disability, food stamp, housing assistance, health insurance etc. will destroy this country.

You will never see a headline that reads thousands of professional welfare frauds who have never worked a day in their life are under investigation.

Hey, speaking about cops and their endless disability claims; what is the latest update on officer Joel Kaddy of the FPD? Just what in hell IS the nature of his disability and how long will the poor guy be suffering with it?

I strongly feel that a cop who is out on an endless and limitless disability should not be allowed to be a Ward Counselor. It is a mentally demanding job and it is too risky.

I believe it might just be, like being an ex-con with health issues anyone can apparently game the system if they learn how to fill out the right paperwork. That in itself, is considered a "job" for some.

Yes alcoholism is a disability so is drug abuse hence the methodone clinic transition program. Where people go from crime committing addicts to tax paying workers.

But you will harp on the clinic.

Lynch, the only reason why you support the methadone clinic in the city is because it's locally convenient and keeps David under your spell. Other than that it's a druggies EBT card.
