The comments and the accusations regarding Mark Louney may be true; or they may be complete nonsense.

Certainly, there has been more than one post here on this link by people claiming to be retired FPD, and who know what's really been going on. Maybe these postings are legit or maybe they are hogwash.

But, finding out that an officer of the law has either been involved with illegal drugs; or is somehow supporting the trafficking of illegal drugs is not unheard of. People would be fools to believe that it does not happen; or that only one member of the law could be involved.

There are stories being reported nationwide, pretty much on a continual weekly basis, of a cop or more than one cop either being charged for, or being found guilty of, the sales and trafficking or illegal drugs. Folks, it is not the least bit uncommon. Could it have been taking place right here in beautiful Fitchburg, Massachusetts? It could very well be.........

Finally, a tyrant has been removed, for just cause, from our fine city. Its a shame the city had to pay you so much money over the years, for all the BS that you caused. Listen "MARKIE",here is the real truth, about what the public should know about you and all the hurt you caused FPD.
You would not make a pimple on a good cops rearend, you were impressed with your own rank, made everyone jump thru hoops, were always right, no matter what, ruled by intimidation, you had no common sense at all. You caused the city to get sued because of your stupidity and your super ego. In my opinion (and others) you were and still are borderline crazy. You are responsible for the department going backwards by removing other agencies from working in the city. You destroyed morale, ruled by fear, destroyed radio equipment you never paid for or disciplined for, to this day, because you had serious melt downs and fits of rage. No "MARKIE" you dont get away with it anymore, we still visualize you as an IDIOT, who loses control, sometimes for no apparent reason. Someone should have put cuffs on you a long time ago for all the transgressions you, and others committed. You have no respect for other agencies, such as the State police drug unit, gang unit, ATF, DEA,and drug task force. You ordered officers to stop investigations. You tried to stop anyone who didnt have your point of view and kiss your rearend. You were always right, in your eyes, no matter what the circumstances. You threatened anyone who wanted to do a good job. You were always impressed with your own importance, but we were not. As a matter of fact, the majority of us labeled you a self centered idiot, somewhat deranged and or crazy, heatless with no respect for anyone or anything. Listen "MARKIE" you have to earn respect, which you never, ever did. You were a bitter tyrant and your petty, sometimes childless meltdowns, caused problems for the city and entire department.
LISTEN MARKIE, here is your DIRECT ORDER:Leave now, never come back, never intimidate anyone else for no reason, you have no more control or authority over anything or anyone. Now its time for payback, for you to be on the receiving end of the tons of turmoil that you have created and caused all these years. Now its time for all the good officers to be able to do their jobs move forward, without anymore of your BS and interference. My only regret is that it took so long to expose you and finally terminate you.

If all of this wrong doing was going on by this man or any other man/woman in FPD, I find it quite sad and disturbing that the officers didn't blow the whistle on him to the AG's office if no FPD superior would investigate and resolve the situation.

One unethical officer gives all officers a bad rep
with John Q. Public. Shame on the people in power in the Burg that knew what was going on with him and his "indiscretions" both on the job and off, and turned their heads to avoid airing FPD dirty laundry.

As a Fitchburg resident, and as someone who works in and around police officers and respects them I find this situation very troubling on all levls.

FPD police thyself, heal thyself and make sure this never happens again. Then you will have the respect of the people you were hired to serve.

Hi Retired FPD,
Thank You for the years of service you provided in our city. Based on posts on this forum and some information I recently received from an extremely reliable source, this ex police officer should have never been a police officer. Several people indicated that he was intrumental in preventing drug arrests in our city, and I can only hope that we can repair whatever damage may have occured with the outside help we had received from other agencies, so we can enlist their assistance in cleaning up our city.
These things take time, it's not over yet....
It is quite disappointing that a person doing these sorts of things can exist within a police department. It kind of makes me wonder why this had not been done sooner with our new police chief in command, didn't he know what was happening in his department?. It seems he makes decisions that make no sense with regard to reducing crime and protecting law abiding people in Fitchburg.
Isn't a police officer supposed to focus on reducing crime in a city?
Maybe the correct thing is for the Attorney General to be investigating our police department?
These things take time.... It's not over yet.

Louney is the worse thing that ever happened to the city of Fitchburg. He destroyed the police dept, brought the moral down to it's knees and made everyone there feel like a piece of s___. Let the investigation continue and the people will find out exactly what he did. Money---what money ????
I do not know if any of these comments that are being said regarding Louney are true or not. But, if this man was as bad as you and the others are saying; then why was he promoted up through the ranks? And, why, if he really was having mental meltdowns on a regular basis; and he was threatening and badgering others on the force, and he was even damaging police property; was he allowed to continue on the force for as many years as he did?

I think that I can answer my own question: 1) The police nationwide have a proven history of taking a very soft line when it comes to dealing with one of their own when wrong doing is either suspected or known. 2) The police unions have the hands tied of both the towns and cities that our lawmen are employed in; as well as the police chiefs themselves. It is extremely difficult to properly address police wrong doing; and the police unions are responsible for some of this problem.

Obviously enough to anyone who has either directly been involved with law enforcement or has read factual accounts of the investigations performed on law enforcement personal; the unwritten rule and code of never spilling the beans on a fellow cop is the major cause for rougue and even criminal cops remaining on our forces and facing little to no consequences. So, the police themselves are the enablers for the crooked cops.....

It's funny, us Readers have never heard any of these comments regarding this lawman. And, if he was still on the force we still would not be hearing any of this. Why do the cops shut their mouths and cover for known bad cops, rougue cops and even criminal cops. Why is all of this only being said after the fact? Cops covering for cops is the obvious answer.

I do not have the insight of this department, but if I am getting this right, it sounds like an outside agency needs to come in and clean house.
It does seem like the chief is doing a good job and I think it's time that the rank and file with good moral character stand behind him.
Maybe what we need is a Serpico in this department.

For any of you that are Fitchburg Police Officers and maybe even officers for others departments that may be monitoring this thread. I would think most people would think it very unsatisfactory for these types of things to be allowed by any of you within your respective police departments.

If you know of improper things like this, aren't you sworn to uphold the law? Is the law only applicable to people that are not police officers? What code of honor do you live by? How can you expect the public to entrust you and support you when these kinds of things continually surface?

I believe in Karma and you cannot expect a good outcome if your hiding the truth from the public...only bad things can happen from doing this.

As for our police chief in Fitchburg...we can only hope that you will be removed from your post so the citizens in Fitchburg can properly protect themselves and we can see an improvement in our levels of crime...you have not been effective.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the chief the one to be credited for weeding out the bad and going after them? That's the way the outside agencies are seeing this. He has a ways to go but this was a fantastic start. I've always enjoyed your post Bruce but I think you're a little confused by this one. Sorry to cross you, I'm sure I'll pay dearly for it, but this is the way many see it.

I know that your comment was meant for Bruce and not me; but let me ask you this. If this IS the result of the Chief stepping up to issues (which it could very well be)then why did our last Chief not step up to this problem? Or did Louney just suddenly go bad; ever since the new Chief arrived in Fitchburg? It sounds to me that if these comments are true regarding Louney; that this was all going on for awhile now. And, if that is the case; why was it never addressed by the old regime? I believe that is what Bruce is alluding to. And, I think that it is a question that begs to be answered.......

Hi Retired,

I wasn't implying that the chief wasn't responsible for this, although I would wonder why it took this long. My comments have to do with the chief wanting to give illegals driver's licenses and his decision to disarm the citizens in Fitchburg unilaterally. The last decision regarding the decision to restrict or otherwise deny a law abiding citizen's ability to own and maintain a legal firearm will do NOTHING to stabalize or reduce crime in Fitchburg. All it will do is make it easier for us to be targeted by the criminal element in the city.

Watch the news, read a paper. Research the ignorance and stupidity that happens in thsi state. Sal Demasi, Tom Finneran, a do nothing AG running for Senate, Billy Bulger,$50,000 a year toll collectors never laid off. Ridiculous political ideas - allowing illegal immigrants (read CRIMINALS) attending school as in-state students. Judges that don't actually punish people for crimes they committed. State Senators driving intoxicated and hitting vehicles.

Pay attention to what actually does make the news - slanted as it may be - and you will see that politics and government in Massachusetts is corrupt and does not work in the best interest of the electorate and citizenry.

Massachusetts sucks. Yes there is corruption and theivery in every other state - but Massachusetts raises it to a freaking art form. God-willing I'll be out of here in a year.

For Decades corruption has existed in that department, and finally someone is actually trying to weed it out. This is vital not only for us as residents, but for the police officers that still believe in public service. This is a start, but many more yet to go.

I think it's time for the staff to stand behind the chief and let him clean house. Get rid of all the dirt and roid rage that exists in that department. All the liars and womanizers. I'm sure it is only a handful, but it's time for them to be outted. It's all the nasty dirty ones that fight the administration. If your doing your job they are no problem.
Here's to the upstanding officers that put their lives on the line each day!

How comical that this group is bashing a 30 year veteran of the police department based on the unsubstantiated postings of anonymous writers. If Retired FPD had any balls he would identify himself instead of hiding behind a an anonymous screen name. I can only guess at his motives for bashing his fellow superior (if he really is, in fact, a retired Fitchburg PD officer.) And shame on the rest of you for joining in the bashing based on rumors and anonymous postings with no facts to support them.
