Shouldn't the headline read "Veteran Fitchburg Police Captain Retires."?
The current headline misstates his rank and makes it sound like he was forced to quit.

Leave it to the S&E to print such propaganda.

Run far away Lt.(Captain) and get the hell out of this state. Turn those years as a superior officer into a Chief's position or head of security is some warmer, better, and less corrupt place.

Wanna bet that this position will not be filled?

Wow. That is so wrong to say he resigned in the headline. His family will hate that. Boo, Emily. That's not the way to make your mark as a reporter. Brandon, we miss you already.

"warmer, better, and less corrupt place"....Please fill us all in on your comment regarding corruption. Corruption where? And, by who? If you have something to say, then by golly, say it. Don't make such a comment but do not support it with any facts.

"That must be a very, very tough thing to go through" said Kaddy. Hey Kaddy, could it be so tough to go through that this man should have followed your example and gone out on permanent disability for job related stress? That way, he would not be responsible for paying any income tax on his monthly pay, as in your case. Again, your monthly loot is taxfree, until your demise. Couldn't someone have cobbled up a job related stress claim for this man, so he could avoid paying his fair share of income tax on his monthly income stream? This tactic is a favorite of lawmen throughout our land.

In spite of my history of negative comments and a perception of being a police basher, I wish Mark Lourney the best of luck in his retirement and in his future endeavors. And, I say that sincerly.

Speak with some of the current rank and file and ask them if it was a retirement or resignation.

The headline is right on.

the fact that this officer spent 30 years on this police force and what did he get for his trouble? a demotion?and over money? you demote people for doing something wrong not for doing thier job faithfully over the years. by chance does anyone know if the police chief took a pay cut as well? would be interesting to know....

too bad. Shame. Didn't the chief just take a trip somewhere? How much did that cost?

What happens to any criminal investigations "If" there are any going on against the now retired Lt.?

It's only right that they should be continued and if any wrong doings are proven, any pensions should be challenged.

Pick up the boston papers anyday and it seems someones pension is being pulled.

Hey Kaddy, you don't have to kiss his butt anymore, he can no longer hurt you. I was there when you were, my memories of him aren't the same as yours.

Fitchburg is a better place now! Maybe now the task force will be allowed back in and take the mountain of drugs out of the city that Louney prevented the task force from removing. Maybe now Louney's departure will save a few lives that were lost.
