It was always about getting money, the state police shot a suspect who has a history of committing crimes, and attempted to run over a police officer.

At least the public will not be harmed by this criminal again

Pathetic that an innocent party has to pay the family of the criminal, when he was only doing his job and protecting the public! What is our society coming to?

This certainly sounds like another frivolous lawsuit. And, sadly, in many cases it is cheaper in the long run to settle a bullsh#t lawsuit before it goes to court; than it is to fight the bullsh#t lawsuit in court. So, simply paying out the money and avoiding the battle in court will save the Taxpayers money.

Some of you may have picked up on the fact that I do not always support the cops. I soft peddle my delivery enough that others may not notice my feelings towards the law. But, in spite of my feelings, I call this one a bullsh#t frivolous lawsuit. They happen all the time in the US these days and they are another example of what is wrong in the US today. They are costing all of us money and they are just plain wrong.

I say that a family just picked up some free cash at the expense of the Taxpayers. But, blame the system, not the individuals involved. This nation needs to step up to the issue of frivolous lawsuits.

Sorry but "blame the system, not the individual" only lets the profiteers off the hook. Personal responsibilty is in short supply in our society.
Until we are ready to demand it, we will forever be carrying societal dead weight.
Sorry kids, your dad was a dirt bag. I doubt he offered financial support when he was alive, absolutely no reason we should provide it now that he is dead.
Also save some blame for the lawyers who saw a pay day at our expense.

It is pretty sad that the estate of a man who shouldn't be behind the in the first place should profit, trooper gray was doing his job and saving the life of a fellow officer should be pun under a microscope, this was no civil rights violation and this is a black eye to the justice system.Preston johnson is a career criminal and was in a place he shouldnt have been, if he wasnt driving illeagally he would be alive today, but instead he broke the law and the state has to pay..where is the justice in that?

Maybe the family would prefer to have the cash instead of Preston, if they could only have one or the other..........

Preston Johnson is a career loser, and it's pretty sad his kids get to profit from this. It don't surprise me the race card was played here, because a white cop killed a black man. Keep him in jail and he is alive, he breaks the law and we have to pay!! Trooper Gray deserves a medal for his actions, and some scumbag lawyer profits from all this is a shame. I am willing to bet he didnt pay support or bring his kids to church on sundays , and it amazes me how when a criminal dies his friends and family come out and say how he has changed and trying to turn his life around. well if he was trying to turn his life around then why was he driving when he had no license, whats he doing out at 3am??? if he had a job he should have been in bed at home being a dad... Massachusetts needs to adopt the 3 strike law from California to keep scumbags like Preston johnson in jail...

I am truely sick of the race always being used, Preston Johnson should have never been let out of jail and trooper Gray should sue the jail for letting him out. He was a deadbeat loser who couldn't have been a role model to anyone. By coming to a settlement sends a message that Trooper Gray may have been wrong. His is a Hero and saved the life of a fellow officer. I think the justice system needs a an overhaul

Hate to break the news to you the Johnson was a criminal who was attacking a police officer. I dont know where you come from but here the officer has every right to protect himself, another officer, or another human life. For the criminal's children to profit off of an officer doing his job is just sick. Just add it to the welfare Im sure they have been soaking up even when Johnson was around. At least the city is now a safer place with one less criminal.

The family was probably on welfare before this incident, so the taxpayers were footing their bills and now they have some cash to go to Foxwoods and blow it all...Trooper Grey, you are my hero and God Bless you...I would like to know just how much the family got so I know how much to save to pay my share of their ill gotten gains.

You have every right to be outraged over this; but blaming Deval is nonsense. Nothing would have happened any different here without Deval at the helm. You are delusional!
