LEOMINSTER -- Police Chief Robert Healey on Wednesday recommended Officer John Perreault be fired in the wake of Perreault's use of a racial slur against Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford at a minor league baseball game July 5.
Healey's recommendation came during Perreault's disciplinary hearing presided over by Mayor Dean Mazzarella at City Hall on Wednesday.
Healey said an internal investigation of Perreault included allegations that Perreault had used racial slurs on other occasions, including the N-word -- allegation's Perreault's lawyer dismissed as hearsay.
Mazzarella, in closing the hourlong hearing, said he has two days to render a decision on Perreault.
Mazzarella and Healey announced last week that a police investigation led by Police Chief Robert J. Healey and lieutenants Scott Bernier and Michael Goldman concluded Perreault hurled the racial slur "Monday" toward Crawford in Manchester, N.H., where the outfielder was on a rehab assignment with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.
