"Wong stayed until the end of the standoff at 2 a.m. but said she was not upset that police went inside 36 Rockland St. and learned the house was empty.

"I was certainly impressed by the procedures that were followed," she said."

Impressed is not the word I would have used.

Lunenburg, where it's safe. Remember last years fireworks in the college neighborhood?

We used to go down to River St., where the Piggly-Wiggly (that plaza) was. When we were kids living in Cleghorn, we'd actually go into the woods off the end of King St. and lay on the rocks. Great memories!

WOW!! This could be the start of something big. I can't think of a better place and I hope it becomes an annual event. Congratulations to all that made this happen.

we are going to have trees removed for fireworks???? what about all the dead and dying trees along city streets still left from the ice storm? instead we are going to clear what little uncleared land fitchbug has left? what is wrong about where they have always fired them?

wong needs to stop planning first night parties and fireworks, and start planning for real financial improvements for the city.

Don't worry, the show will consist of one roman candle, a pack of firecrackers maybe two and a hand full of sparklers. Get there early...

Surprised she's even participating in a July 4th holiday. Bet she can't answer a quiz on what it's all about. Dare you to ask her.

I can't believe the mayor said she was not upset that for hours police surrounded an empty house and we the taxpayers have to pay for such shoddy detective work. She might not be upset but I'm a little outraged and embarrassed to have to pay for stupidity with tax dollars.

I attended the Block Party last year and it was fantastic, I loved the old cars! Stayed for fireworks at Crocker Field and they were great!! If the city is able to pull of the firework display from the top of Rollstone hill this will be a HUGE draw. Who came up with this idea?? I want to congratulate the person.
Where is that

There are so many great places you can see them from that its hard to list them all, but I think your best bet is to come downtown for the block party, park somewhere in the uppercommon area and after the block party watch them from there.
Who is paying

Last year Mr. Ansin donated the fireworks. Heard his business isn't doing so well this year. Is he paying for the fireworks again?
