When Jeff Bean was mayor he single handedly destroyed Main Street by bringing in all the social service agencies and making the street one way. He is running for the council. Where has he been all this time and what does he propose to do to us now?

I agree. At the time there was a need for social service agencies but only for a small number of residents. So he should have not let them come here. After they came here more people in need of these services moved here. Obviously if you need assistance from social services then you will move where they are located. Most of these people do not drive so moving within walking distance is necessary.

I remember when the high rise buildings were actually rented by everyday working people. The Sundial and Wallace towers. But since the State closed the institutions these people needed somewhere to go. So the owners became involved in government assisted housing to make a profit. So it wasn't just the fault of our ex-leaders but it is also the fault of many owners of multi-residential buildings.

Look at the Anwelt apartment complex. It was suppose to be only for people whom wanted to buy an upscale condo. Then they relisted it as apartments for rent. Now there are many residents there whom are on government assistance, some are mentally challenged and disabled or needing assisted physical care.

I am afraid the new apartment complex (Premier box site) across from Webnik motors on River Street will see the same fate.

Because of the all social service agencies in Fitchburg there is now a need for housing for these people. Yes, the social service agencies should have not been allowed to setup shop here. But the owners of these multi-residential buildings should have been held accountable to keeping their buildings to their intended use that they applied for when they met with the city for approval instead of cashing in on the government assistance payroll.

Maybe I will buy an old mill, refurbish it for upscale condos. Then I will turn around and enroll in a government sponsored program to house social service residents.

He sucked up to John Kerry's losing presidential bid and ended up running FEMA where he finally got his ass fired. When he left the Mayors office he also got caught with a city prostitute who he said at the time he was "just" counseling.

He's hoping that many people are to young to remember and that the others may have forgotten. I remember him buzzing above Fitchburg in his lawnmower airplane looking down at all the useful idiots who was using for bigger political aspirations. The guy laterally helped turn Fitchburg into the social service dependent city it now is. He let his liberal political friends in Boston turn Fitchburg into the Social Service capital that it now is through political loan sharking and now we see the end result when the well went dry. And now after he helped turn this city into a ghetto he'd like another shot at offering a solution for the problems he help create. What a great and noble Fitchburger...

Not for nothin' but Main Street was one-way for 40 years before he became mayor.

If Main Street was a two-way street why would that bring in more business?

No it wasn't. I have a postcard from the bustling shopping days that clearly show the two way traffic pattern.

Slowing down the traffic has numerous positive effects on local business, foremost the oppotunity for drivers to actually see the businesses instead of merely speeding past.

Now let me see if I understand this. He brought every SOCIAL SERVICE agency in the world to Fitchburg. He got caught soliciting a prostitute, he wants to be a city councilor...........I think he would be an excellent choice.

That's a tough one. Nobody in Fitchburg wants to work so you need these services. Any girl you speak to is a potential prostitute and nobody wants to be on the council.

Obviously speeding along so fast you haven't seen the other businesses. Take a walk from Blossom Street to the boulder. You'll be surprised.

Funny, when was the last time you were at Shack's?, I picked up a shirt and tie there Thursday, I saw school uniforms downstairs but there were plenty of suits, sportcoats, shirts, sweaters etc. on the main floor and downstairs. Fitchburg should feel proud to have a store like that on Main street.
