Tim Cahill, ex-treasurer, fined to end corruption case

BOSTON ó A former Massachusetts treasurer has agreed to pay a $100,000 fine in exchange for prosecutors dropping a corruption case.

Tim Cahill was accused of scheming to use $1.5 million of state lottery money for an ad campaign designed to boost his 2010 gubernatorial campaign.

Cahill's first trial ended in a mistrial in December when a jury was unable to reach a verdict.

A person with firsthand knowledge of the agreement said Cahill will not face retrial. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement has not been presented to a judge yet.

Prosecutors from state Attorney General Martha Coakley's office and Cahill's lawyers are scheduled to outline the agreement to a judge Friday afternoon.

The Boston Globe first reported the agreement.

So, let me ask, is this deal ethical ? Didn't they go after him for an ethics violation? This seems to be the new criminal justice system.

The Justice Department needs to demand that Martha step down. Didn't Martha state "I am good friends with Cahill and very good friends with his wife"?

What happens to the citizen who doesn't have $100,000 free cash?

So, will the federal courts do the same with Jess Jackson Jr? He took $750,000 and bought Rolexes, furniture, Micheal Jacksons glove and other collectibles for himself.

Cahill, they claim used a couple Million. So if we calculate it correctly then Jesse is looking at a deal of what $30,000 by scale?

I doubt that the same will happen concerning the Federal court.

Martha Coakley needs to resign.

Just more of the same-old same-old Democratic Dirty Dealing that this state is famous for. Would you honestly expect anything less from the Democratic machine in Massachusetts?

How many more Speaker's of the House need to be sent to prison? How many more Chuck Turner and Diane Wilkerson cases can you stomach? Oh, wait, it looks like the Lt Gov has some shady dealings with some of his Democratic buddies too.

Had enough? Not in this state, the dopes jsut keep voting them in.

Cahill is an Independent (part Republican and part Dem). Even if he were Democrat it doesn't matter. As you stated the Dems went to prison, Cahill was able to pay "$100,000 to get out of prison."

Cahill gave up his party affiliation with Democrats while stealing money from the lottery to give his boss "Yes We Can" Devalue Patrick his re-election ticket. Cahill got 8% of the vote on the general election even after withdrawing from the race. But thatís OK with usefull idiots Lynch because "Yes we can" DeValue Patrick is a Dummycrat. And I thought you followed the money around and understood corruption at its finest? So why do you suppose Cahill got away with only a fine Lynch? Ask your dogs, they know that answer!

So a lifelong Democrat switches to Independent to help the Democrat win the election (by syphoning votes from the Republican) and suddenly that makes him 50/50 Democrat/Republican?

Lynch, you get stupider with every post.
