Focus on Rt. 12 hasn't ruled out Rt. 2 connector

Full story: Sentinel & Enterprise

Proponents of a proposed $70 million Route 2 connector said the idea is still possible even though the state has already spent about $8 million to widen and improve Route 12.

I think it is time for Fitchburg to worry about the city itself, rather than build another avenue into a broken down city like Fitchburg.

Furthermore, having a connector road that would run east of the Fitchburg Airport? Memory serves me right, there is fair amount of industry that would be pushed out, not to mention the Guilford Railroad Yard, and the mainline for the MBTA Fitchburg to Boston train. Maybe more money should be spent to streamline that.

Also, an idea to put a connector road in West Fitchburg is just plain dumb. You have industry surrounded by high priced homes? Who loses that one under the bulldozer...Mr. John Q. Public and his Mansion, or the industry that gives tons of cheap labor jobs?

Bottom line...Get your priorities straight in Fitchburg. No road built will help Fitchburg out its financial woes. Think again Councilor Joseph...

Has anyone looked at the Lowell connector? It was built in the late 50's or early 60's. It was supposed to fix all of Lowells problems, but they still went many decades until the downtown area came back to life (middle of this decade?). You can put a hundred roads into Fitchburg, but nobody's going to use one of them until you put something in Fitchburg that people will need.

Bob, yes that is true. Memory serves me right every 8-10 years, the state comes along and revamps the Lowell Connector, acting as if people really show up to Lowell on such a grand scale, but yet there it is, the same old Lowell, with a new connector.

Fitchburg is a dump, with alot of crime, homeless people, and even a strip club. After all, why don't we ask Congress for another 14 Billion. After all, if Boston can have the big dig, we can have the Fitchburg Crime, Sin, and Pestulance Turnpike!

Did I miss something? What have we gotten for $8 million in taxpayer money?

Its a lousey idea that was pretty much ignored 5 years ago when the article was first written. On top of that the connector that was in question would have been a benefit to Leominster not Fitchburg. The idea was to add another exit/entry ramp further up from the current ramps to decrease the traffic backups on Rt.12. Don't you have anything better to do than to respond to articles that were written 5 years ago. There will never be a connector, the Tasca issue is closed. Move on, in fact, just move.

This BS again? You have a better chance of seeing a rainbow farting unicorn prance down Main Street than you do seeing a Rte. 2 connector being built.
