voting for a truck and paying for it in full before anyone has even seen it are two different things. I want to know who said it was ok to cut a check for 325,000 dollars for something that was nonexistent. the damn thing wasn't even built yet. who ? town admin, BOS, tresurers office.? your telling me that he , they just sat back and let it fly. if that was your corporation would YOU make someone acounttable?
Would you have said "it was only 325000,you keep your job."
this is what I need to know.
Do you think this is important / relevant to what I've been sayin.
does this action or lack of it define character or job ability?
Or was this action business as usual for the big yellow building.
I think it does
You sound like you know more of what goes on at the fire dept than me but as I remember it being told Chief Seymour researched it and presented it to the BOS that if they paid in full they would get some extra things on the truck. They voted to do it (except Peter that must have had to abstain). Linda Sanders should have had the town attny look at it first but obviously that was never done. I'm sure the BOS or Linda never meant for Ashby to be taken but this was a big scam and fire depts around the country were also cheated out of big money. The company lied and even sent pictures of the truck being built to the Chief. I don't know whatever happened to that guy but hopefully he's in a jail somewhere. I wasn't happy about that whole situation either, my tax money was lost too, but constantly bringing it up doesn't help anything. We just have to move on and hope they learned from the situation.

Who was one of Linda's biggest supporters? She wasn't fired . she was supported. If she had a contract, she violated right there.
do you see I'm trying to paint a picture here.No one can support someone who did something like that to the town and call them self a Selectman.

Did you actually read what I wrote. It was a scam. That company went out of their way to deceive Ashby and many others. They sent false pictures of the truck in stages supposedly being built. The Chief supported it and I even heard he had used that same company before with good results. Linda was trying to save money but was wrong to not send it to the town attorney but there were many people that were involved here including the fire chief but you seem focused on only one - the one that didn't even vote. You seem to have a grudge just against Peter. That's why I say there's more to this than you are saying. All these people volunteer and all they seem to get is complaints. I'm sure they have real jobs and a family but give of their time because they care about Ashby. They certainly don't get anything out of it, they do it for free. No wonder Ashby can't get anyone to run for anything or sit on boards. I feel bad for anyone serving this town. I would go home and cry if I was on the BOS.

My point is who supported her?
who was she friends with?
why didn't the BOS can her?
theres a common denominator here.
that is the focus, a pattern of favoritism.
would you have canned her?
why wasn't someone held responsible?

why?
what was done?
who did it?

you chastise me for supposely being a advocate that old lady but your just as bad. worse even because Peter makes decisions that affect every Ashby resident.

I can't remember who was on the BOS then or who the chairman was, do you? I think they all liked Linda and supported her. I remember them all saying how terrible they felt about the whole thing. If you wanted to fire Linda then how about the finance committee that must have ok'd it, and also the fire chief who set up the whole thing and must have asked for them to pay up front because I'm sure the BOS wouldn't have taken it upon themselves to suggest that. They all just followed what had always been done, it's just this time they got scammed. Firing Linda wouldn't have changed anything. We would still be out a truck and we would have had to pay probably $30,000 more a year for a new Town Administrator. If Linda had deliberately stolen money from Ashby then I would agree with you. But everyone from Linda to the fire chief were scammed and we just have to get over it and move on. Your personal attacks on Peter and not on the fire chief makes no sense to me when he set it all up. The BOS changed the rules so this can't happen again. I don't see what else you want.

fire chiefs don't do the credit checks.
fire chiefs spec the truck out.(providing info to bidder(s) on what specifications said apparatus needs to meet)pump size, water cap. etc.

A simple credit check would have saved everything.

Basic,easy,legal,and logical.

I can see we will never agree on this. A credit check maybe would have turned up something or maybe not. There were many fire depts that were in the same situation as Ashby and I have no idea what they checked out first. This guy was a great scammer and probably had all his bases covered and remember the chief and Ashby had used this company before (and I think they even prepaid then) and had good results. I lost my tax dollars too but I know that we were victims of a scheme to cheat us and hopefully the DA will get our money back someday but as of now I'm moving on and you should too. Ashby has put new rules in place so it will not happen again. Thats all they can do. I will always believe that everyone involved only did it because they thought they were doing something good for Ashby. Peter and the other selectmen volunteer their time and have done plenty for Ashby. I think the town is in pretty good shape considering the tough economic times. Do you remember who the other selectmen were at the time?

Thanks, I couldn't remember who it was. Do you also blame McCallum for the truck. He is usually so picky about everything I'm surprised he voted for it. It just seems that it's always just Peter that you're against and he didn't even vote. McCallum voted and you haven't said a word against him.
I can see I haven't changed your mind and you certainly haven't changed mine. I think our volunteer selectmen do a great job and try to do what's best for Ashby. The firetruck was a terrible mistake but they learned from it. I think regionalization makes so much sense. We could get them out of their current building, not have to pay for the requested upgrades with our tax money, and get new equipment for our police department. It sure seems like a win win situation to me.

The people voted for the truck, not the bos. where's the vote to pay in full. if that vote was brought to the people, it would have been voted dowm. that with disclosing 15000 dollars in free equipment. no one in their right mind would have voted for that without a guarantee.

this is where the blame lies.
please stop saying it was a scam.
It's only a scam if we don't have the smarts enough to not to think it that it may be.

I'll always say it was a scam because that was what it was. You know a lot about the fire dept, when they bought the first truck from that company didn't they pay in full then? They got that truck without any problems because they weren't being scammed then. Linda should have sent it to the town lawyer but she didn't and she's gone now. You didn't answer my question about just blaming Peter and not Mike McCallum. Mike actually did vote for it but all I hear about is Peter. Many people made mistakes with that purchase but they were trying to do their best and get Ashby that extra equipment so I can't still be blaming them. I've moved on and you should stop dwelling on it also. Lets look forward towards improving Ashby, and possibly regionalization and getting dispatch and police out of that trailor/building.

Ashby does not own any other engines made by Elite Fire Apparatus. where do you get your info?

If you wanted the police out of that building you should have voted for a new public saftey complex. I bet you helped to vote it down.Ashby had the chance to get out of that bulding many times and everytime it was shot down. why? we can't afford the taxes? small town in America = large taxes. show me one that's not.you city folks need to go back from where you came. pull your head out yer as first.

I sure did vote for a new police station even though I thought it was bigger than we needed. I also think that because a new station will never pass here in Ashby that we should take advantage of Ashburnham's new station and regionalize dispatch and move the police to town hall.

Interesting link, don't you think. As I contented all along, Ashburnham had more to gain over the proposed dispatch regionalization than Ashby.

I don't see how this says Ashburnham had more to gain. The grant was to get new equipment for both of us and now that we didn't do it (which is so stupid if you ask me Dan Meunier is a coward) they couldn't get their part either. I can't wait until the police comes forward to ask for money to upgrade all the stuff we could have gotten for free. Then we'll see how people vote.
