Patrick O'Halloran says he's running again to represent Ward 2 on the City Council because he feels little has changed for the better in the city since his last bid for the seat two years ago.Read more

So you agree about the judges, but you aren't going after the judges....hmmmmm.
Provide information that would allow the businesses to join the City's Utility Rate plan...that would be a decision by the power company, not the mayor of the city.
You were previously bitching about our rate being above $ 17.00, and now you advocate for raising it to $21.00 per thousand...are you out of your fucking mind? It is obvious you don't own residential property in Fitchburg, and you have no clue what kind of damage that would do to homeowners in our city.
All of the non-elders in the city pay taxes too...what do you expect the city should do for elders that shouldn't be done for others? It isn't that you have elderly parents...is it?
The mayor has little control over the drop in real estate values dumb ass...if you want to blame someone and do something about it, go after all the absentee land owners that do nothing to maintain their propert...that will keep you busy....I dare you to go after them.
Once again, you talk out of both sides of your mouth...drop the tax rates for business and the money will come from where?

I did not advocate $21 per thousand as that is what was suggested to the city by its financial gurus.
I say leave the residential rate alone and stop raising it. Lower the commercial rate to $17 per thousand from its $25.70 current rate.
Or leave everything alone and continue to vote in the same exact people because they are boy scout leaders within Fitchburg!
It is like an alcoholic, continue the same abusive behavior and expecting different results only to be disappointed with the same.
Businesses are closing down, Fitchburg is worse off than many if not most cities and towns its size in Massachusetts.
You get what you vote for!! Keep leaving DiNatale with the same councilors who vote against his cuts and management.
Personally I think I would be a better manager than DiNatale but he has name recognition so you need to settle for the best for your Fitchburg bred names.
None of these names voted for anything for our elders, not one! Fitchburg may not wake up till it is to late. Pension crises coming home to roost after years and decades of neglect to address it.
Did Bean address it? Did Dean Tran? Did anyone on the council for the past ten yrs vote to address it?
Did it really take a totally failing economic status for Dean Tran to finally come to the rationale that we needed an economic manager?
We need better management! This council has voted to continue to cosign every FPD contract to the point now that the FPD has gone against city government! Ultimately they forgot who fed them and this is why you must manage before you obliged home boys!
To be honest, put me on that council and I will put the fire to their feet in order to get things done.
At present we have volunteers working with the police and fire. The police and the fire have received benefit increase after benefit increase.$350,000 in paid holiday benefits per department, do the math as I did. Each firefighter receives an average of $4,700 a piece for paid holidays a year.
The FPD collects over $500,000 a year in OT. We have the state police in Fitchburg at the highest numbers ever! We have the Worcester county task force at high numbers in Fitchburg. Many of the arrest are done by State troopers.
Drug dealing is higher than ever in Fitchburg and nothing is getting done. Our police are becoming reactionary, meaning reporting to the scene. We need more detective work, we need to demand more from these detectives. Arrest these drug dealers don't continue to play patti cake with them.
#88 Oct 29, 2013
Yes, we need more police but we need them on our terms and not on the unions terms!!! It is public safety first and a 13th paid holiday last!!!!
If people do not like it then apply at another police force! This is management.
What the union did is totally unprofessional! It was a selfish move as they are thinking only for themselves and not the community.
Management needs to take control of the FPD as it has been failing also! No one likes to hear the truth!!
#89 Oct 29, 2013
There is ZERO communication within Fitchburg, there is ZERO management. Everything is failing. As I said in 2011 we need to position Fitchburg to be ahead of the curve.
I will say it a thousand times businesses and residents are leaving Fitchburg by the dozen as of recent as last week due to the additional tax rates.
The cost to live in Fitchburg is off the charts!! In 2006 Fitchburg had the best rating as the most affordable city to live in which is a marketing gold mine!
Instead of marketing this fact the city raised by double every tax and fee making it the worst place to live. Great JOB!
Keep voting for the person with the oldest Elks hat!!!!!

Tax breaks don't work period because when the tax breaks are over the company moves out. It has nothing to do with the business tax rate. Owner's now seek and plan to start a business where tax breaks are offered but what they don't tell anyone is that they are not planning to stay afterwards no matter how low the tax rate is. They can show a loss when filing their income tax and not pay taxes because of the tax breaks and make a few hidden bucks for 3 years.
Are you saying elders need tax breaks? I have never heard of this anywhere. Next a newly graduated college couple will want tax breaks on their first home because they have college loans. Giving elders tax breaks will lead to other people seeking tax breaks because of financial burdens. Everyone will have a reason for tax breaks then.
I agree we do not need consultants. They are just college graduates that carry a degree in economics who most likely have no idea about the area. They will just review other communities that are successful and tell us that we need to do the same thing they did. So, give me the $100K and I will consult for the city and I don't need a degree.
Consultants only tell the city what needs to be done, they don't tell the city HOW to do it. Over the last 20 years we wasted more money (around $1 million) on researchers, consultants, studies etc. that would could have been used to hire more cops.
Freezing raises is okay because there are NO raises for the employees anyways. Who is getting a raise?
Unitil is a private company with a legal contract with the city for 99 years. There is nothing we can do about Unitil. Our leaders in the 50's could have never know that power was going to be a financial issue back then. Back then just finding a power company to come into any city was very rare so they wanted to lock-in Unitil with a long contract.
Vacant homes are still owned by someone or a bank. You cannot force a private owner to keep up their property as long as they pay the taxes on it. I talked to a bank representative that owns a foreclosed home. They stated they will never fix a vacant home and actually wait for several years until it falls apart. The land is worth more than the home.
Water and sewer raises had to be made or else we would have had to pay thousands of dollars every day. These raises were used to upgrade the treatment plant and sewer system that was federally mandated to bring it up to code. We lost the West Fitchburg treatment plant because Munksjo paper was picking up the entire tab for that and stopped doing so.
As for contract negotiations, contracts are legally binding documents and cannot be changed unless both sides agree to the new terms. If a union gives up something then the city must give them something in return. The city cannot just remove something that is in any contract. It is against the law. The contracts in place now actually have articles that have taken decades to negotiate.

Seems you all know everything about the City, couple questions since it's been stated...
"Businesses are closing down"
Exactly how many have closed down or moved out of the City in the last 5 years?
Where would I get that information?
#92 Oct 29, 2013
Don't you EVER get sick of whining like a little boy.......wwwwwwaaaaaaaahhhhhh hhhhhh
Glad to see you have answered the questions, as sual, you got nothing.
#93 Oct 29, 2013
I would like that information too and also how many new businesses started up in the city?
Actually the businesses are not complaining or moving out because of the tax rates.
Let's see if Lynch knows where to find that answer, it is very simple.
I will be awaiting his answer.

Kevin, why was your friend held for 30 days in the Worcester House of Correction after they let you out? Did he have a probation violation? A missed court date? Did he default on payments of some kind? Did he have an outstanding warrant?
And how did the RMV use your 2011 incident to revoke your license in 2009? Can you explain?

phat lady ,you sre nuts

As a American, Iam shocked and saddened by the comment, of the racial remark, about a person's last name. In this year 2013,that is pure discrimation , it does not matter if a person is from Irish, French, Spanish or any other nationality. Sorry to say but this should be forbidden and shows what type of a person votes for someone because of their race or nationality. And this name calling who does that, surely not a professional or someone who wants the best for where they live. Again to judge someone by their nationality is also illegal, which it should be, we r ALL Americans.

I agree and I am dispondent. That's like saying blacks only voted for Obama because he is black.
#99 Nov 1, 2013
Bill Clinton got 87% of the black vote and Obama only got 86%
#100 Nov 1, 2013
And you lied to the newspaper and will get 0 percent of the vote
#101 Nov 2, 2013
O'halloran is almost as dumb as Lynch. Heard him speak and thought maybe, maybe he mDe it past 5th grade.
#102 Nov 2, 2013
What do you expect when an Irishman runs in the section of the city that is all French and Spanish?
He isn't smart at all.
#103 Nov 2, 2013
Working stiff from Gardner now? hmmm? Too early to change the IP?
Why does it matter if the neighborhood is French and Spanish?
Your ignorance is out dated.
#104 Nov 2, 2013
Don't you remember trying to cross thru the North End to get to Southie?
Sometimes you get caught and get the crap kicked out of you.
It doesn't matter but that is what is called being REALISTIC.
Something that you cannot perceive.
How come when the ambulance goes to many medical calls for a white senior citizen they always tell the them that the black paramedic has to stay outside?
Because that is the way many old timers have been taught throughout their lives. It doesn't matter but decades ago our senior citizen generation was told by their parents never to let a black person into their home.
That generation is still alive and kicking today in West Fitchburg and Cleghorn.
Maybe if you got more and went door to door other than the downtown area you would know this.
Trust me, the Cleghorn French stick together. Just like the Southies and the North end Italians.
#105 Nov 2, 2013
Your view of what the world should be like is what gets you into trouble.
You have to be realistic.
