Behind Brown-Warren jobs debate, a history of party-line votes

AP PHOTO Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren challenged U.S. Sen. Scott Brown on his votes in opposition to three jobs bills during Monday night's Lowell debate. LOWELL -- Elizabeth Warren's most pointed criticism of U.S. Sen. Scott Brown during Monday night's U.S. Senate debate was his opposition to three jobs bills proposed by President Barack Obama.
Brown's rejection of the bills, argued Warren, is evidence he is not the independent voice he claims to be -- at least on economic issues. Brown countered that the legislation was opposed by both political parties.
"These were rejections by both Democrats and Republicans, professor," insisted Brown.
So who was right?
While it is true that a few Democrats joined Republicans in rejecting the bills, the votes largely fell along party lines. On each measure, Democrats failed to obtain the 60 votes necessary to allow debate on the

Democrats Ben Nelson, of Nebraska, and Mark Pryor, of Arkansas, as well as Independent Joe Lieberman, of Connecticut, sided with Republicans in rejecting Obama's $447 billion American Jobs Act on Oct. 11, 2011. The legislation would have cut payroll taxes, given tax credits for businesses that hire veterans and the unemployed, and funded road and school construction, as well as salaries for teachers, firefighters and police officers.
Following that vote, Obama and Senate leaders broke the bill down into smaller pieces. But Senate Republicans, and a few Democrats, defeated two of those pared down bills, as well.
A bill providing funding to keep about 400,000
teachers and first responders from being laid off nationwide was rejected on Oct. 20, 2011. Nelson and Pryor once again crossed party lines to oppose the bill.
On Nov. 2, 2011, a proposal to invest about $50 billion in infrastructure was also rejected, this time with Nelson and Lieberman voting with Republicans. Several other Democrats said they opposed these measures, but they voted in favor of allowing debate.
Brown has said he voted against the bills because they would have been paid for with small tax increases on annual income over $1 million.
Warren cites Brown's opposition as evidence he is trying to obstruct Obama's agenda on economic issues. But Brown, who has made bipartisanship a hallmark of his campaign, has tried to counter this attack by highlighting his support of other jobs bills that were not paid for with tax increases.
Last month, Brown released an ad featuring an unemployed single mother from Shrewsbury, Diane Gilfoy-Henry, talking about the difficulties of getting by in today's economy.
"People like Diane keep me focused on what really matters," Brown said in the ad. "To me, creating jobs is more important than what party you belong to. That's why one of the first votes I took as a senator was for a Democratic jobs bill."
In Feb. 2010, Brown was one of four Republicans to join Democrats in breaking a GOP filibuster on a $15 billion jobs package that would give tax breaks to companies that hire new employees.
At the time, Brown came under fire from fiscal conservatives and tea party members, who were instrumental in his 2010 election, because only a portion the bill's spending and tax credits were offset by spending cuts.
Brown said the bill was imperfect, but it would put Americans back to work.
"I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington," he said at the time.

This is the worst "Do Nothing Congress" in American history. At a time where America is experincing its worst recession ever.
This Republican congress is BENT on obstructing anything Obama proposes!
Joe Liberman was the sole reason that Gore lost! He is a sell out! He was a deadhead during the campaign.

If you read the bills, and the largest one was only 90 pages, it was OBVIOUS why the bills were voted down. Obama called them jobs bills, but these bills were intended to take care of Obamas supporters and created no new jobs, but focused primarily on union workers that are Obamas biggest advocates.
If the jobs bill had focused on the creation of real jobs for putting unemployed Americans back to work instead of providing additional funding to publically funded employees union members, you might have seen it pass.
One section fo the bill was specifically put in place as a "protectionist" measure for the steelworkers unions, and would basically make it IMPOSSIBLE for "free competition" to work normally. Another for the teachers unions, and we all recently witnessed how teachers in Detroit were concerned about their students.
You really are a broken record Lynch...why don't you actually READ the bill before whining about it...you might actually learn something.

First stop hacking my free speach when you disagree with me.
I will state that you are a suspect! The hacking is coming from Gardner! We will find out who you are and will expose and bring charges.
Now if you allow my to reply. Your idea of "free enterprise" does not exist in America any longer. There are anti trust laws which have been squandered in search of loopholes.
The American corporations rape the employees for massive profits. It is exploitation!
This is the most noticeable "Do NOTHING Congress "in history. As the Republicans are bent on overturning the Obama care!! Health care as so many American industries has been the vulture!!
It is happening with Verizon and other cable and phone networks. It costs much more to have any of these services and their employees have been outsourced to China and India.
Let me tell you, what you promote is so self defeating that it is the cause of our current situation.
Your idea of "free enterprise" will leave America unemployed to the breaking point. Why do you think like the US Chamber of Commerce that outsourcing is good for America? You feel that America doesn't need ANY manufacturing jobs? Please give and explain this twisted drool cup logic????

Firstly Lynch, I have better things to do with my time than "hack" your comments moron!! Do what you want with regard to your threats...I mean really, you can't be serious about ANYONE caring enough about what you have to say to spend any time screwing around with your comments. Most of us read your insane rantings just for the levity of it all and to break up the day...beyond that, you are pretty useless.
All of the rest of your gibberish isn't something you haven't regurgitated a million times...I have better things to do, other then occassionally rattling your chain...you really are such an idiot.

All you have done for FUCKING YEARS is shoot your mouth off at me! Nothing else! This is all you do everytime I post!
Useless? So what exactly is your "use" for me? For that matter who depends on you? Who cares what you have to say? All those who post against me do not like the fact that I call them out on their shit!
Too bad!!!! Things have gotten five times better within Fitchburg do to my efforts,FACT!!! The police department is more professional, there are still problems but they are more professional and the citizens of Fitchburg are safer than they were before I commented,FACT!
You comment on things that you have no clue about! Such as the 1992 case which involved leg breakers that came to my house on a mission to assault and threaten people! They hurt people for a living.
Everyone around me stated "shit happens" as you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am not a bad person as you attempt to SPEW out of your mouth! And quite frankly, YES, I am tired of it!
You are the idiot and you are the POS! FACT! You are no good of a person. I am a good person who helps others without looking for accolades! I have more life experiences than you. I have worked harder and longer than you have in life. You have had things handed to you! You feel entitled!
All Republicans are double talkers!!!! Like Romney last night as he opend with acknowledging that Obama was faced on day one with the nations highest unemployment rate EVER and a "rising unemployment and a cripled economy'!!! Then he goes on blaming Obama!
Obama stemmed the unneeded ridiculous wars in Iraq and Afghanastan that cost BILLIONS and is still costing! Obama wants to stop the tax cuts for the wealthy but hasn't been able to do so as the Republican OBSTRUCTIONIST even held Unemployment extensions hostage before christmas last year in order to secure the tax cuts for the wealthy!!!! Ridiculous! And you want to point at others calling them idiots? Look in the mirror and at the Republicans!
Obama did something about health care, which mirrors Romneys health care. The Republicans attempted to spend their ENTIRE time fighting to repeal the Obama health care as the nation was without work!
Fact checks state that Obama created 5 Million jobs! Yes, as Romney pointed out the economy before Obama was loosing and geered to loosing millions more jobs!!!!!
Obama turned and attempted tyo pass pro-American jobs bills and the Republicans and two independents/republican hidden congressmen liberman and the other assisted in blocking these bills ALONG party lines in a situation where America needed jobs!!!!!!!!

Why would you still ask the question, "would is your use for me?" I have already said MANY times there is no use for you.
There you go again, taking credit for things you didn't do. That is so very pathetic.
You claim that people give you grief because you call them on their BS? That's funny because thats what we do to you.
Its interesting to read what you think you know about me, when you obviously have no clue who I am and what my life has been, but you believe you know everything...you're such an idiot.
I didn't have to be around for that situation in 1992 to comment on what you did. YOU PLED GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER you idiot!! Hello? Do you have any brain cells left at all? YOU PLED GUILTY, which means YOU SAID YOU KILLED SOMEONE. Pretty simple concept that even a child can understand, but you continue to say that you didn't kill anyone. So are you just stupid, and pled guilty to a crime you didn't commit? or did you just "play the system" the same way you do now? I personally don't care about that situation other than you keep maintaining that you didn't do it...well, we both know that is BS.
You say you help people without looking for accolades, but you continue to bore us with your constant belief that the improvements that have occured in Fitchburg are improvements that you are responsible for...oh please, are you serious?
You have NO CLUE what Obama's Jobs Bill would do because you haven't even read it...as I said earlier in different threads at different times...go read it and then maybe you can speak intelligently about it, but you just keep spewing your misinformation, just like Obama, hoping that enough stupid people will believe it. I read it and I know why it never made it through the DEMOCRAT majority Senate.
Once again...you've been schooled.
