Roddy sounds like he was actually a decent guy and a decent cop. Old school; when things were good.

Is Roddy the Poster who used the handle "FL Retiree" here on Topix Forum?

OK, according to this story he joined the FPD in 1947 at the age of 25. He was promoted to Chief in 1965 at the age of 43. He retired as Chief in 1987 at the age of 65. That means that for the past 26 years he has been collecting his pension; as well as the outstanding benefits that go along with it. And, he is only one of the countless cops who have retired and who the Taxpayers still have the financial burden of supporting. In this case, he worked for 40 years and he collected for another 26. The numbers are not too bad in this instance; but again, the finacial burden of the retirement packages for our ex lawmen is crippling us........

I agree that he does seem like he was a good officer. Our prayers go out to his family.

Yes, and I'm sending this from my grave. Are you really that daft? Your improper use and abuse of punctuation certainly indicates that to be the case. Where did you ever learn how to abuse the English language like that?
I am glad to hear that you will still be able to communicate with us Readers, in spite of your recent departure. Were you drawn towards a very intense light, or is that all hogwash?

In this case, he paid 40 years of taxes and collected retirement for another 26 while still paying taxes until his passing.
