Green energy is for suckers. Sure you can spend thousands to put solar panels on your roof and a windmill in your backyard and you might be able to create enough energy to light a 40 watt lightbulb. Or you can go to Home Depot and buy a flashlight for a dollar. You do the math.
Hi Confused,

Solar power in Massachusetts isn't very viable because we lack a substantial number of solar hours, so the payback on solar electricity here is awful. Wind power isn't an easy thing to setup because each individual piece of property can have elements that prevent an adequate amount of wind for that piece of property, and then of course, you also have nieghbors that prevent people that can install them from being able to install them.

Solar power is a better prospect down South, but not very good here.

Evergreen Solar completed the contract under the terms that Massachusetts setup, so I blame our idiot govenor and his state departments for creating a contract that allowed Evergreen to do what they were able to do. It is the same kind of nonsense that Obama does at the federal level...provide tax incentives for technologies that are just not ready yet...we need more research to perfect these technologies before the payback on the money spent is appropriate.

Evergreen was a get rich quick scheme. You know it and I know it JF. Of course Devall went along with it and I'm sure he was paid well for his efforts.

Sheeple will go along with any idea if it's promoted right. In the 70's we spent Billions to go to the moon. Why? I have no idea. Then the country celebrates and says 'HaHa we beat the Russians and got to the Moon first!'. What did we learn?#1 The moon sucks.#2 You have to wear a big white suit to go there.#3 We sure know how to waste money.

Firstly, we do not have a consensus among experts that global warming exists, but more importantantly, we have no verifiable proof that our interactions with the environment are causing the damage that proponents of global warming claim.

http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-warmin...

Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists think man-made global warming is real. But despite an overwhelming consensus among the experts, many Americans still doubt that human activity is raising global temperatures.

Why is there such a disparity of opinion between professional climatologists and the general population? Probably because the average American has yet to see any major changes in their day-to-day weather. It still gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Any small overall changes in temperature are drowned out by weather that’s constantly in flux. If the average temperature in Idaho goes up by one degree over the course of 100 years (and it has), no one notices. It’s hard to believe the Earth is getting warmer if you can’t feel it. But the upward trend in temperature is happening, and you don’t have to be a climatologist to understand why.

The science behind man-made global warming is pretty straightforward. Certain gases called “greenhouse gases” cause the atmosphere to act like a blanket, absorbing heat from the sun, but not letting it out. For the most part this is a good thing, because without an atmosphere the Earth would have planet-wide, sub-zero temperatures similar to the Moon’s. However, if extra greenhouse gases (like carbon dioxide) are released into the sky, the blanket becomes heavier, trapping more and more heat as it grows.

Based on ice core studies, climate scientists estimate that during the Ice Ages carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was about 180-210 parts per million (ppm). During the warm periods between the Ice Ages, CO2 levels were higher at 280-300 ppm. This correlation between CO2 and temperature here makes sense because carbon dioxide is a powerful greenhouse gas. Our planet uses it naturally in part to regulate its Ice Age cycles.

Before the industrial revolution, atmospheric CO2 levels were about 280 parts per million, which falls within the average range of an inter-Ice Age warm period. Now, though, because of the burning of fossil fuels, atmospheric CO2 is at 390 ppm. This is a very large change over a short period of time. What this means is that over the last 300 years, we’ve raised atmospheric CO2 so much that the difference between pre-Industrial levels and the current concentration is the same as the difference between pre-Industrial levels and the last Ice Age. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that because of this, the average global temperature has gone up about one and a half degrees since the Industrial Revolution. And it will continue to rise as long as we continue to pump more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The basic science behind man-made global warming is simple: greenhouse gases heat up the Earth. All the experts agree with this, and 97 percent of them agree that mankind is causing temperatures to rise by burning fossil fuels. A majority of Americans also agree, and their percentage is increasing yearly. Soon this “debate” will be virtually non-existent. Either scientists will convince the rest of the skeptics, or temperatures will rise so dramatically that no sane person will be able to deny that it’s happening.

Obama wanted the debt ceiling increased huh?
How many times has that happened before Obama became President?
Is the debt ceiling raised for future spending or money that Congress has already agreed to spend?
What happens when the US defaults on money owed?
You're the most simplistic of the whole bunch and you think nobody else realizes this!!!!
Would you ever care to address some of your first lies before going on to your new lies factless?

About a week ago, National Review's Robert Costa reported that congressional Republicans are considering an incredibly dangerous new plan: they're prepared to hold the nation's debt limit hostage again, creating a crisis comparable to the one we saw in the summer of 2011, unless Democrats agree to take health care benefits away from millions of Americans.

Earlier this week, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), a prominent member of the House Democratic leadership, said he now sees this scenario as likely. And overnight, Reuters reported that another GOP debt-ceiling crisis appears to be on the way.

Republican lawmakers, who staunchly oppose President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law, are considering using a fall showdown over the country's borrowing limit as leverage to try to delay the law's implementation.

The idea is gaining traction among Republican leaders in the House of Representatives, aides said on Wednesday. An aide to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said the debt limit is a "good leverage point" to try to force some action on the healthcare law known as "Obamacare." [...]

Republicans are weighing the tactic as an alternative to another approach that would involve denying funding for the law and threatening a possible government shutdown.

In other words, as we discussed last week, GOP leaders are effectively prepared to swap one hostage for another. Over the last several weeks, the message from many Republicans has been, "Help us sabotage the federal health care system or we'll shut down the government," but under this alternate scenario, the new threat is, "Help us sabotage the federal health care system or we'll trash the full faith and credit of the United States and crash the global economy on purpose."

As an objective matter, this is nothing short of madness. As Ezra Klein recently put it, "Trading a government shutdown for a debt-ceiling breach is like trading the flu for septic shock. And Boehner knows it. Republicans will effectively be going to the White House and saying,'Delay the health-care law or we will single-handedly cause an unprecedented and unnecessary global financial crisis that everyone will clearly and correctly blame on us, destroying our party for years to come.'... This is not a safe way to govern the country."

What's more, the fact that Cantor's office sees this as a "leverage point" says something important about how Republicans perceive their duties to the people.

The Majority Leader's unnamed aide would probably be loath to admit it, but by framing the debate this way, he or she is making a concession: President Obama and congressional Democrats want what's best for the country; they don't want to see the country needlessly suffer; so when faced with a hostage standoff, Dems will see Republicans holding a gun to Americans' heads and pay the ransom.

In other words, the GOP sees the nation's fiscal duties as a "leverage point" because they assume Democrats are responsible public officials who want to protect Americans from harm. And I suppose that's not a horrible assumption to make.

The question, however, is why Republicans don't see themselves the same way.

In this scenario, we see congressional Republicans, elected by Americans to do what's right for Americans, threatening to cause deliberate harm to the country they ostensibly represent. They're instigating a hostage crisis, and they're the ones holding a gun to the nation's head, threatening to cause a calamity, on purpose, unless millions of Americans lose their health care benefits.

In this morality play, GOP officials aren't just the villains, acting against the best interests of the United States, they knowingly embrace this role. They seem to be saying to themselves, "Obama isn't as reckless as we are, so maybe we'll get what we want by threatening to hurt the country."

Brian Beutler's thesis is that this is an elaborate bluff, and we can all certainly hope that's the case. But the fact that congressional Republicans are even willing to play such a dangerously stupid, radical game reinforces a simple truth: these GOP lawmakers are less a governing party and more a group of intemperate children who like to play with matches.

Yes, lets just keep raising that debt ceiling instead of dealing with the roots of the problem...too much government spending.

It is interesting that someone like "heaven forbid" insists that the root of the global warming problem (fake problem)is man made, and we should create regulations that choke our businesses to death, while at the same time, ignore the obvious root of our national deficit, and just keep raising the debt limit.

It seems that "heaven" thinks it is OK for Obama to keep doing what he has done since he was first hired, and expect a different result...that is the definition of insanity.

Obama continues to play his political games and Americans will continue to suffer...quite simple.

Care to go back and address the first 3 posts of lies before you move on to additional LIES FActless?

Government spending has not increased, it's going down. Just cause you say it doesn't make it true.

What caused that deficit, which BTW IS SHRINKING not growing?

You do know about interest on loans right? You do know that the one who took the loans out in the first place is the one who grew spending right? You do know that the interest remains regardless of who is in charge AFTER the loans are taken right?

How about you address all the LIES you consistantly try to make people believe on these boards?

You can't, you know they are lies, you never, ever, never go back and atone for those lies!!!!!

You're nothing but a LIAR and no, no amount of time can go by that exonerates you from those LIES!!!!

Actually Evergreen fulfilled their side of the contract. They employed 300 workers for 3 years in order to receive the tax breaks. That is all that they were obligated to do.

It was the government that "assumed" they would stay here and be in business. Evergreen was not obligated to disclose their long term plans to the government.

That is why any level of government should never give tax breaks to any size of business. Even in the burg small businesses will take advantage of the tax breaks then go out of business and start a new business under a different name and owner somewhere else where they would get the same tax break incentive.

Tax breaks do not work, maybe in an honest world but not anymore. Ms.Eskola was on Main Street who is running for council and she stated she wants to get the empty store fronts filled again.

She was told the owners of those buildings can "write off" the vacant stores on the taxes for triple the rent they would have received. This is why Aubuchon will not fill the old Rendezvous restaurant at Parkhill Plaza. It is worth a lot more if it is vacant than occupied as a tax write off.

She stated that people have to be optimistic, her campaign manager that was with her by her side was told to tell her they have to be REALISTIC not optimistic. Voters don't want to hear the "Fluff" and "Rose Colored glasses" speech because they are smarter than that and have heard that too many times over the past decades.

Tax breaks don't work and the owners of many buildings do not want their vacant stores filled. That is being real whether you like it or not.

Why do you pretend to be a vet on these boards. You got caught in a lie a year or so ago and you keep clinging to it. You claimed to be in two different and unrelated military organizations. Oops.

At least change your handle, that way we won't really know it's you. But as civil we all know you to be just a liar. Like Lynch. That's the company you're keeping. You, lynch, and you know who.
