A state of the art Homeless shelter/Mental health facility to be constructed in Fitchburg is long overdue. Such a project would properly facilitate the city's need.
This project should mirror Worcesters new complex. As with their new project it could involve a transition program that encourages self help and assist mental health citizens.
Yes, this is financial hard times for everyone but we must not turn our backs on the less fortunate. This is when it is time to focus more on those in need.
This facility should focus more on transition and a motivational program for homeless and mental health suffering citizens. Fitchburg has the building space available.
Recently the Mayor gave Barnaby a city building at no cost. Barnaby in return was able to construct a new housing facility for FSU students in under a years time.
Constantly opponents have attempted to close the veterans program down on Main street. I feel that the Mayor should give this veterans program a city building with requirements that the building coexist with Homeless and mental health housing and assistance. Before Barnaby was given the building a deal should of been made concerning free labor that would assist the city in building such a facility.
This is thinking outside of the box and making it work. I encourage others to assist in this proposal and to work together to make it happen.

That's all we need more homeless and mental ill to come to the city so they will get picked up and put in the facility in our city. If you build it they will come.
We already found out that bringing social services here also brings more clients from other communities that don't provide those services.
The State closed those institutions due to lack of money, if the State cannot afford it how would we?
Where is this article in the paper anyways? I cannot find it.

why don't you share a corner of your mother's basement with some of the other mental patients in the city?

Contrary to popular belief most recipients of homeless services are Fitchburg residents - FHS grads or long term residents. Mental Health services are based on insurance coverage ( all MA residents have coverage) as well as choice of provider. Fitchburg has a good amount of MH providers because of access as well as availability office space --- not because of homelessness or severity. Yes the loss of Burbank hurts the region but an increase in support services helps everyone. The biggest problem for Fitchburg is the lack of public transportation to Worcester not the building of duplicate services.
