LEOMINSTER -- Police are investigating whether a Leominster police officer hurled racial epithets at Red Sox player Carl Crawford during a minor league game last week.
WBZ-TV is reporting that Mayor Dean J. Mazzarella has confirmed the officer, who was not named, is under investigation.
Crawford, an outfielder, was playing for the Red Sox minor-league team the Portland Sea Dogs in a game against the Fisher Cats in Manchester, N.H., last week. He has been battling wrist and elbow injuries all season.
Following is video on www.unionleader.com of Crawford describing the alleged incident:

Hereis a link that describes the racial terms used by this Leominster oficer.
http://youtu.be/BaG5H8Imoz8

About 4 minutes into this video the term "Monday" is defined.

I think that this officer is in trouble. Accountability is important concerning public safety employees.

It was stated that there was a video. After looking at this video http://youtu.be/BaG5H8Imoz8
. I am now convinced that the phrase "you are just a monday" is a racist phrase.

Can we see the video that was sent to the LPD ? If this incident happened as it was reported then I would like to ask his fellow officers who happen to be African American how it makes them feel?

It depends on the context. Everyone knows you play your best players over the weekend and on Monday you give them a rest.

I am again offended by the results of the LPD investigation. I know what I heard and how it was spoken. For the Leominster Mayor to tell me that he didn't mean it as a racial statement is BS.

This is ridiculous. I have never heard such a thing. So what is Tuesday used for? You're obviously black. So tell us all, how come when a black person calls another black person the "N" word it's OK? Rap music is riddled with the "N" word. And why is it
ok when a black person calls a white person "cracker"? This has all become so ridiculous. Let's use Tuesday's for the word "cracker" and call it even.. How foolish! Hey! does using the word fag make someone a bigot? Lets just use Wednesday now for that word.

There are not may people that know of the word "Monday" as a racial slur. I am the cops girlfriend and I'm Puerto Rican and have never heard it, nor has he ever said anything racial in front of me or at all for that matter. For all you haters out there that are so quick to jump to conclusions, he has two black nieces, a Dominican brother in law, a best friend thats Asian and many black friend. The word "monday" has many meanings - I guess its the way you want to understand it to be spoken. The writer of "Garfield" the comic strip used to use Monday all the time. Does this mean he is a racist? This is someones 13 year, spotlessly clean career at stake here.....and yes, maybe Tuesday should be a racial slur agains Puerto Ricans.

I once went to a Sox game where the umpire made a bad call. Everyone in the stands started shouting BULLSHIT! Should we all go to work the next morning and get fired for it?

I guess the Mayor was sent a video of the incident. I agree that people should watch the video before they come to a conclusion.

I am not opposing your facts regarding this officer having "two black nieces" ect.. But I must state that this does not mean that he is not racist. Strom Thurmond had a "black child" and he was as racist against black citizens as anyone could be.

"James Strom Thurmond (December 5, 1902 June 26, 2003) was an American politician who served for 48 years as a United States Senator. He also ran for the Presidency of the United States in 1948 as the segregationist States Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrat) candidate, receiving 2.4% of the popular vote and 39 electoral votes. Thurmond represented South Carolina in the United States Senate from 1954 until 2003, at first as a Democrat and, after 1964. as a Republican. He switched because of his opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, disaffection with the national party, and support for the conservatism of the Republican presidential candidate and Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater.[2][3] He left office as the only senator to reach the age of 100 while still in office and as the oldest-serving and longest-serving senator in U.S. history (although he was later surpassed in the latter by Robert Byrd).[4] Thurmond holds the record at 14 years as the longest-serving Dean of the United States Senate in U.S. history.

In opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957, he conducted the longest filibuster ever by a lone senator, at 24 hours and 18 minutes in length, nonstop. In the 1960s, he opposed the civil rights legislation of 1964 and 1965 to end segregation and enforce the voting rights of African-American citizens. He always insisted he had never been a racist, but was opposed to excessive federal authority. He notably was quoted as saying that

"all the laws of Washington and all the bayonets of the Army cannot force the Negro into our homes, into our schools, our churches and our places of recreation and amusement."[5]

He attributed the movement for integration to Communist agitators.[5]

Starting in the 1970s, he moderated his position on race, but continued to defend his early segregationist campaigns on the basis of states' rights in the context of Southern society at the time,[6] never fully renouncing his earlier viewpoints.[7][8]

Six months after Thurmond's death in 2003, it was revealed that at age 22, he had fathered a mixed-race daughter, Essie Mae Washington-Williams, with his family's maid, Carrie Butler, a 16-year-old black girl. Although Thurmond never publicly acknowledged Essie Mae, he paid for her education at a historically black college and passed other money to her for some time. His children by his marriage eventually acknowledged her"

Here is Stamos "dixiecrats"! These racist seperated from the democratic party and went to the more comfy Republicans who explain when accussed of racism would state "I have black friends" as they would often tell their "black friends", "but you are different" as they generalized within their conversation.

I haven't seen this video but I am sure that I would be able to tell how the word was being used!

I have to ask, WHY HAVE THEY NOT RELEASED THIS VIDEO? Maybe Crawford will ask for this video to be released by the Mayor!

Many have stated that Racism is alive and well in leominster and Fitchburg PD departments! How was this word "monday" used?

Did he state, "you are nothing but a worthless monday"? or "hey monday"? This video needs to be released by the Mayor. If the officer wasn't being racist then the video will depict this fact.

Here is the video!

http://youtu.be/BaG5H8Imoz8

If this officer knew that he was making a racist remark or even had knowledge that the word"monday" was being utilized to describe a black person then he should apologize and accept the suspension without pay.

And I would like to see this person from Leominster to yell " you are a fucking monday is all" to Carl Crawford at the Red Sox game as he states he will now do.

I will give you some free advice; in Maine there is no law against such speach but state this at Fenway and you will be subject to prosecution for the racist remark.
