No street sweepers. No street lights. No policeman. No fireman. No library. No DPW workers. Anyone else sense a pattern here.

how else are they going to clean up the needles and used condoms? I know there are plenty of young criminals in prison who could be used to clean the streets.

"We've been piece-mealing it for too long," Boisvert said. "I'm afraid the rubber band has been stretched to the breaking point."

Boisvert said he wants to sit down with Mayor Lisa Wong, the financial team, purchasing agents and DPW officials to "figure out exactly what can be done."

"People want their streets swept," Boisvert said.

Really Norman? Then why did you and the rest of the city council, along with your buddy Dan Mylott, not have these replaced or repaired back then?

YOU are responsible for the mess we are in. Yet you are always there to complain. Always trying to make yourself look good at the expense of others.

This is a story? Two of these street sweepers havn't been working for YEARS. The other two are being repaired. SO WHAT?
Is this just another lame non-issue from the sentinel, or Norman Boisvert trying to stir the pot to make it look like he is doing something.

Sounds like these street sweepers should have been repaired years ago when the city was not bankrupt, just like the DPW should do due diligence to clear the electric lines of tress BEFORE the storm.

Yes, this is yet another example of the long list of complaints that the same people who rode shotgun on the demise of the infrastructure are heaping on the current administration! We are so much better off now that we have people with the guts and determination to make a difference in place, I can only hope that the 'old guard' realizes that the voters in this city are bright, and will remember, how they responded to the demands this economic crisis presented. If you are not on board, and part of the solution, quit your b!tching and get out of the way!!

How do you have 4 pieces of equipment all down at the same time? Mismanagement.
Why let 2 outdated pieces of equipment sit unrepaired? Mismanagement.
Why are two pieces of equipment only 20 years old unrepairable? Mismanagement.
How is a 2002 unit in need of such majpr repair? Mismanangement.
How are a few chains keeping the other unit down knowing the other 3 were down? Mismanagement.
Outsource the operation and be done with it.

My street was never done last year. And this article says Ward 4 won't get done until July 27. That is three months away. Between this, the library, the streetlights, the drugs and Unitil, I really hate living here. It's dirty and depressing. People are not even respectful enough to pick up after their dogs. I can't even move out of this awful town because I wouldn't be able to sell my house. Nobody in there right mind would buy a house in Fitchburg.

Be patient Kristine, there is light at the end of the tunnel. All of us are frustrated, but at least there is finally energetic, creative leadership in place and there are a lot of us out there who want to see things turned around. Stay the course, we will prevail, and be apreciative of how far we came!

"but at least there is finally energetic, creative leadership in place and there are a lot of us out there who want to see things turned around."

Exactly what is "creative" in turning off street lights, yakking about the need for a trash fee, reducing library hours and staff, turning a blind eye to continually poor MCAS results, etc.? A dunce such as Mylott gave attention to the same issues at less cost than Wong.

And, am I mistaken in pointing out that "energetic, creative leadership in place" were all in place (save Demoura who adds nothing) when Wong occupied the Mayor's office? Same people, same thought process, same result at greater cost.

By the way, did you know a pistachio is a nut?

One way to solve all the problems. Increase taxes so there is enough money to pay for everything you want!
You say you can't afford that? You are struggling now to keep up? You've had to cut your own budget?

Well, what the he11 do you think the city/mayor/council are trying to do? They can't just produce money; it has to come from somewhere. And if these services are for YOU, then who should be willing to help pay for them? YOU!, But, Nooooo, all you want to do is complain.

[sarcasm] Oh but come on, there must be MILLIONS of dollars of wasted money in the City that a real Mayor could easily identify. Just make some more cuts.... somewhere.... to something.[/sarcasm]

Not really news… The city of Fitchburg has LONG been known to let their equipment go to C R A P. Much of the equipment that actually does work is held together with chewing gum and duct tape.
